Here Is What Is aA Done Deal:

You can’t uninstall it. Gemini is baking itself in to your operating system, it is no longer an app.

You can’t block its access completely. Disabling permissions only disables visible functions you see. It's invasive background data analysis continues.


You can’t opt out if you use any part of the Google ecosystem. If you use Chrome, Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, or Play Store, you’re already giving it permission to spy on your life. Find alternates to these services if you don't want vacuumed.

What You Can Do:

If your phone still gives you a choice, don't accept the Gemini switchover. But know this: most newer Androids won't ask, you won't even see it happen.

Once updated, turn off as many permissions as possible in your Settings. Especially anything related to voice input, camera, location, and clipboard access. Not just Google apps too.

Use alternate apps for messaging, browsing, and email. DuckDuckGo, Brave, ProtonMail, etc. will help limit exposure.

Minimize your Google account usage. Remove Google accounts from secondary devices, or switch to a de-Googled phone if you’re really serious.

If you aren't real sharp on the inner parts of your phone, I've written a plain-english step through of these settings for the non-tech crowd. You can find it below my signature, I hope it helps.

Final Word

The integration of AI into your most personal device without informed consent, without transparency, and without full control, is not a feature. I believe it to be a major violation of privacy. You shouldn't have to be a tech wizard to keep your personal information safe and out of corporate hands! This is going to become a much bigger topic in our life in the immediate future as we are transitioned whether we want to be or not, into the era of AI.

🔧 How to Push Back Against the Gemini AI Update by SourdoughSam

Step 1: Don’t Tap “Upgrade” or “Switch” If prompted. If your phone still gives you a prompt to replace Google Assistant with Gemini on the 7th, do not accept it. Tap “No thanks” or “Keep Assistant.” But be aware: on many devices as of July 7, this choice may no longer appear at all.

Step 2: Check Your Default Assistant Setting after the update....

Go to: Settings → Apps → Default Apps → Digital Assistant App If Gemini is listed, try switching it back to “Google Assistant” or “None.” Not all phones will allow this anymore, depending on your update level.

Step 3: Turn Off Personalization and Activity Sharing Go to: Settings → Google → Manage Your Google Account → Data & Privacy Scroll to “Web & App Activity,” “Location History,” and “YouTube History”—turn them all off. This limits what Gemini can learn.

Step 4: Disable Gemini-Specific Features (If Available) Some phones now have a Gemini Settings section. If it exists, open it and turn off every toggle you find—especially those for “Contextual Awareness,” “Message Access,” and “Phone Controls.”

Step 5: Use Alternative Apps for Sensitive Tasks Avoid Google services when possible. Use:

DuckDuckGo or Brave for browsing

ProtonMail for email

Signal, Telegram, or Discord for messaging. This reduces the information Gemini can access through app integrations.

Step 6: Remove Unused Google Accounts If you have extra Google accounts on your phone, remove them: Settings → Accounts → tap account → Remove account The fewer Google profiles, the fewer data funnels.

Step 7: Consider De-Googling or Switching Devices For those who want full control, look into custom ROMs like #GrapheneOS or de-Googled phones like #Murena. Even if you're using a "dumb phone" all your messages sent to a modern phone are recorded by the receiving phone's system and both of your providers.
Even when you turn your mic off, their phones listen. Even if you have no phone, Google and multiple other companies have a voice print of you and other's phones pick up and monitor your in-person conversations.

Most people's security cameras are connected to the Internet and will tie into a centralized database. Self checkouts are now doing facial recognition, so paying in cash isn't all that anonymous. Most any keyboard on a smart phone logs what you type and syncs it with Google, Apple etc, even if a message isn't sent.
Your phone registers your unique gate.
Phones register other nearby devices via NFC and other antennas.
There's license plate readers everywhere.

Even when I go around with nothing electric on me, I'll get suggestions/ads from my conversations with people in public, once I'm home..

It's becoming more of a dystopian surveillance state by the second.

There are mitigation techniques that help, but you can't control everyone else's devices.

This is a personal Hell to me.
It's all about dominating, controlling and manipulating you and everyone else.

There is plenty of food on Earth. The problem is that much of it is in the wrong place. Look at what happened when the EU built its food mountains. The food was needed in Africa but the EU’s agricultural policies meant that it got stored in areas where it wasn’t needed. Tariffs on imported food, and the dumping of surpluses, together with corruption, have suppressed the development of food growing in what used to be called the “Third World.” There is no doubt that much of the starvation in Africa was directly caused by the EU dumping food there, with the result that local farmers simply could not compete and so went bankrupt.

The greedy billionaires want to get rid of farms (particularly small ones) and replace the food they produce with artificial food made in their laboratories. Their long-standing plan has suddenly become urgent since they do not want to waste a carefully created crisis. They are already selling laboratory-grown meat as beef. There will be no label to show that the meat was grown in a laboratory. The plan is that every piece of food will be digitalised and identified and part of the “Internet of Things.”

Suddenly, and belatedly, they claim to have realised that nutrition has a value in health care and they want to control our diet with legislation, advice and taxes (on sugary and fatty foods). Long-standing medical tyranny is about to be extended and to become food tyranny. They are planning to introduce medically tailored meals and to extend genetically modified foods. The policy carried out with great success in India by Monsanto, for example, will mean that farmers will have to buy all their seeds from the big companies and it will be illegal to keep seeds from one year’s crop for the following year.

Con todo, este viernes fue aplaudido y agasajado por la dirección. El baño de masas de este viernes se ha producido pocas semanas después de que Feijóo felicitara a Mazón en un acto celebrado en Alicante por su “buen trabajo” durante la reconstrucción y por la consecución de los presupuestos autonómicos pactados con Vox.

Un movimiento de Feijóo que, según sostienen algunas fuentes consultadas por este diario, responde a un pacto para garantizarse la fidelidad de los compromisarios de los populares valencianos, una genuflexión a cambio de apoyo por si a Madrid y Ayuso se les ocurría presentar una alternativa en el Congreso. Y es que la Comunitat Valenciana es la segunda en número de compromisarios con 389, solo por detrás de Andalucía, con 566.

I remember when Pride WAS a protest.. before it became a pinkwashing exercise for council and corporate types.

I was there (and I'm in this video looking late 20's and cool in my denim and shades) .. and we marched down Oxford Rd with all the traffic and riot police and everything.. A friend Geoff Stafford has video of the actual march which was on his website, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of it

that is also possible on linux however that is why you should run it restricted in flatpak/firejail/separate user account and use a mime type link interceptor like junction

This is a massive cultural development, because it means we are seeing the emergence of actual, meaningful rebellion in western counterculture for the first time arguably since the Vietnam War. The artists and their fans aren’t just talking the talk of sticking it to the establishment anymore.

For generations the ruling class has been successfully stomping out all politically relevant counterculture, first in the form of direct frontal assault by official government operations like COINTELPRO, and then by the way all major platforms and studios are owned by plutocrats who benefit from the imperial status quo and refuse to elevate anyone who might pose a threat to it.

There have of course been countless artists in every generation who put on a rebellious face and give the finger to authority, but they’ve never presented any kind of threat to real power. Punk rockers who sing “fuck the man” but never advance any actual tangible causes. Satanic panic bands and shock rock superstars scaring church ladies and stirring culture wars. Bands voicing criticisms of the Iraq invasion but making it about supporting the Democratic Party. Celebrity musicians promoting social justice and equality without ever saying anything that might inconvenience the oligarchs and empire managers who rule our world.

The rich and powerful don’t care if you dye your hair or pierce your nose or kiss a member of the same sex or say Hail Satan. They don’t care if you support one mainstream political faction over the other, or if you yell empty words about anarchy and revolution that aren’t pointed toward any real material goals. They care very much, however, if you are undermining public consent for military and geopolitical agendas they’ve worked very hard to propagandize the public into accepting.

The establishment never dropped the hammer on Marilyn Manson. Lady Gaga never ran into trouble with the state for singing that gay people are Born This Way. Ozzy Osbourne is living in the lap of luxury with an estimated net worth of $220 million. But groups like Kneecap and Bob Vylan are being subjected to police investigations and visa revocations for taking a stand on Palestine.

Which, of course, is only going to make their position more popular among young people with a defiant streak in them.

It’s hard to imagine how western governments could make support for Palestine look more attractive to western youths, really. Here’s this unimaginably horrific mass atrocity that they can all watch unfolding on their phone screens in real time every single day of the year, and they’re being told “You’re not allowed to oppose this. We, the stuffed shirts in Washington and London, command you to obey. If you think unauthorized thoughts and chant unauthorized chants, we are going to get very huffy and upset.”

I mean, can you think of anything more fun?

This is after all the generation who’s been told that they need to accept being poorer and sicker than their parents and grandparents and that they’ll never own a home no matter what they do, knowing full well that the crusty old bastards finger-wagging at them for opposing an active genocide are the same freaks who’ve refused to do anything to steer their planet’s ecosystem away from looming disaster. They have every reason to want to express defiance, and nothing to lose by doing so.

A real, politically meaningful counterculture has been born in the western world, and our rulers are already showing us that they’re afraid of it. This is a fascinating time to be alive.

This is a great example of something being pushed that most really do not want.

Big Tech is very focused on winning the AI war. Problem is, that in their eagerness to do that, they focus just on what they want you to do, instead of what you want to do.

Cripes these disc brake pads are a nightmare. There is apparently only a small metal clip/spring and two pads, however there is no retaining screw or cotter pin. Damned if I can get the fucking old pads out... They wiggle. But they are impeded somehow that is not immediately apparent.

I may in fact wind up just buying new caliper assemblies and installing those. It's about the same price.
