Wow, took them so long to get quote posts. A welcome addition imo (I know there's a lot of controversy around implementing it, but for me, I think I prefer it).
Oh, my understanding is that originally they didn't want quote posts because it could lead to a culture of people dunking on each other and a lot of negativity.
So I believe there was a lot of resistance early on against that feature. That's just what I've seen people saying whenever this feature was requested over the past few years. I could be wrong though.
To my understanding (please take with several grains of salt), some folks felt like it would encourage toxicity since you can essentially mock something someone said without saying it to them directly, while sending your audience to the original post, and I believe for quite some time the plan was intentionally not to add it
On the other hand, I've heard folks suggest that by allowing people to have their own isolated conversation about an idea you can potentially limit some of the harmful consequences of people with large audiences or something, but I don't remember the exact explanation
Personally I'm happy to get quote posts and I'm happy that mastodon is cautious about implementing features that facilitate hostile interactions in the way that major platforms do for engagement

I also already seen people being that way (it was a conservative using #justsayin afterward, coming from another instance) on a reply, maybe just notify people of quote posts so its not something equivalent to be talking at their backs without them being aware of it, notification could help
I think quote posts are undesirable for the reasons you mentioned but I have to accept that it will be huge for adoption, and the flip side (promoting others work in a positive light) is also going to be really great.
This is fantastic. I REALLY hope you can set a control on a post that allows quoting to be disabled or only allowed by people you follow. A great step in the right direction.

I am a relatively new teacher in Oklahoma. In my experience, the teachers I've worked with are a fairly mixed bag. There are absolutely amazing teachers working in Oklahoma that are knowledgeable and passionate about their content areas. I have also noticed a fair amount of teachers that are wildly under qualified or seem to only be in a classroom for the opportunity to take advantage of the system (frequently missing work, not actually teaching their students content, etc.) Oftentimes, though schools don't have many options because they simply need bodies to supervise the students. It is very heartbreaking.

I can relate to this. I'll be entering my 4th full-year teaching. In my short time working in education, I have become the most senior and qualified teacher for my subject and grade level. I do the bulk of the curriculum planning for my subject.

For years there has been a lot of consternation about the refusal of federal agencies such as the CIA and FBI to disclose what they know about Jeffrey Epstein (as well as about the assassination of JFK, the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the murder of Seth Rich, and countless other stories). Guys like me have also noticed how the U.S. government, including Congress, canโt ever quite seem to get to the bottom of the origin of SARS-CoV-2.
The truth of these stories carries incalculable liabilitiesโliabilities that would call into question whether the involved institutions should be allowed to continue existing.
Disclosing the truth could also instantly demolish the persistent naรฏvetรฉ that enables most people to maintain their allegiance to their governments and to believe the endless train of BS that we are told every day about everything.
I have experience with big liability cases. For a long time I investigated the mysterious deaths of Mary Mahoney on July 6, 1997 in Georgetown and Seth Rich on July 10, 2016 in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of D.C. The circumstances of both deaths strongly raise the suspicion of a political motive, but both were nevertheless chalked up to โbotched robberiesโ by the Metropolitan Police.
