Okay here is my very simple concept for a #FediCard - a "business card" that encourages people to join the #Fediverse and links to @_elena 's explanatory video.

My idea is that people can hand these out at #protests, political organizations, and so forth - where politically active people gather who already have had bad experiences with commercial social media.

The back side could be customized further to list an instance which is most relevant to the place where you want to share them - for example, I want to print a variant for the gruene.social #Mastodon instance.

I will certainly try to apply my meagre #design skills to make this more appealing, but first I wanted to hear what you all think of this concept, and what your suggestions for improvement are.

(Note: If you want to play around with the design, I have made it available in #SVG / #Inkscape format. The template has the 85 x 55 mm size for European business cards, so you will want to adjust it for other regions.)

The biggest challenge here is that the site has been translated to over 20 languages, all manual work by volunteers, no machine or AI translation involved.

So as you can imagine the impact this has on content updates.

收拾桌面，想称体重，称完还想称猫体重。猫叫了一声，回头看他一眼，坐得正正的，现在回想也没什么异样，但就是几步过去把他抱起来了，移到地上，猫毛毛的肚子在手里抽抽几下，哇啦吐了一滩清水和一丁点食糜。要漫到猫爪了，往后挪一点，猫又哇啦一小口清水。
拍了，留底。
擦地的时候，猫在凉席上老老实实地，我其实有点啼笑皆非的感觉。不过降温食欲影响是真大，凌晨碗里有40g粮左右，吐前还有剩半碗。
也没吐什么毛。很爱干净的短毛狸。猫草片应该还是有用的。
狸依旧走一路跟一路趴一路，蹲下搓一搓就响，手指插在他两爪两蹄之间抖着揉毛毛，他就放松地眯着眼享受。稍微蔫一点，没到要担心的程度。
地板干了以后又去刨刨嗅嗅那块地。一路刨到了猫碗前面，文文静静地开饭了。干粮撅了一小碗，撅冻干。中间怕他一下从空腹吃多了，把正在吃的碗端了起来，狸秩序井然，猫头直接伸到另一个碗里继续吃。行吧都给你吃 :0160:

Attention everyone on Mastodon! There's a scam making the rounds where malicious actors impersonate moderators or admins. They send private messages or make posts that mimic notifications, claiming that your account needs verification. These messages often include a link for you to "complete the verification process."

⚠️ This is a Scam!

Your server admin will never ask you to click a link to verify your account.
No other admin from any other server will either, even if they appear to be part of the main Mastodon team.
If your account is suspended, you won't receive a message about it. Instead, you'll see a notification upon logging in that your account is temporarily suspended.

How to Identify the Scam:

Fake admin accounts often use names containing "moderator" or "admin," but this doesn't mean they are legitimate.
Legitimate admins or instance owners usually have a badge or marking on their profile indicating their role.

What to Do:

If you receive a message or post urging you to click a link to verify your account, report it immediately.
If you have any doubts about your account status, contact your server admin or moderation team directly.
To verify the authenticity of an admin or instance owner, visit the "About" page of your instance. This page typically lists contact information for the real team administering your instance.
Always be cautious when interacting with accounts claiming to be from Mastodon or your instance's admin team.

C'est la même chose qu'à l'époque de l'émergence de la 3d réaliste. On faisait des test du même style.
Vu la rapidité d'évolution, je suis sûr que d'ici 2-3 ou 5 ans même le plus expérimenté se fera tromper. L'avantage des ados n'est que de courte durée je pense. Restera la jugeote pour nous guider.
Et bientôt l'idée viendra de faire des mondes virtuelles immersif (encore une fois) mais personnalisés et générés par IA.

As far as murders, those statistics are probably correct, because Bukele is fascinated with collecting that information, and the US kind of has to because ... guy isn't here anymore.

Stuff like pickpockets, begging, scams, etc. you don't know. However, since most of that stuff is organized, and any "non-violent organized crime" was almost certainly displaced by the murderous gangs that infested El Salvador before Bukele, one can imagine that SV is pretty devoid of any shady activity right at the moment.

Survivorship bias is when you make a conclusion but it's invalid because it doesn't recognize the skew of data caused by survivorship.

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is an example of an error caused by survivorship bias, in reality, you might have been stronger already and what didn't kill you only demonstrated that you are stronger.

Lindy Effect is an application of survivorship, but not an erroneous one. The logic of Lindy is that things with good survivability last a long time. Things which HAVE lasted a long time have demonstrated survivability, so they obviously have it. Things which have not (yet) lasted a long time have not proven survivability, they might have it, but they likely don't.

A limitation of Lindy Effect is it does not work with things that have a fixed lifetime such as humans. A 2 year old is more likely to last another 20 years than a 90 year old, but that's only because humans have a built-in biological suicide clock.

@cjd the way i see it, it doesn't affect me at all. I mean, it's not like people in the US buy Italian, French, Swiss or pretty much any other Europea imports because they're priced competitively. That's basically the expensive shit you buy because you want something boutique to flex. I mean, think about it. If you're buying 30+ bucks bottle of wine, you'll buy it all the same if it's 40 bucks.

The package archnews2 also provides an arch news reader. This issue was also announced in Arch forums before it was rolled out - I saw it in Lemmy.

But, yeah, you really do have to read archnews release notes. Frankly, it annoys me a bit - pacman should have the concept of breaking changes and show related news before upgrades. I think one of the news packages (maybe archnews2?) has a config setting that always displays news before upgrades, but it's only annoying because it is ignorant of whether the news item affects any given system, so it's often just noise; I think I turned it off because it kept showing me the same news every time.

It's the worst part of Arch, and it's poorly handled. I don't know of a rolling release that handles informing the user of, breaking changes better, though.

The good thing is it fails properly. This should not continue because it would break your system. The package ownership of those files has changed but the package manager would have to remove the current owning package then install the new owning package after in two separate transactions. Technically this could be make possible I think it would lead to bad packaging and would be bad practice. Happily it fails loudly and makes next steps fairly clear.
