Soooo, it looks like my old old old MOTU ultralite mk1 FireWire audio interface didn’t enjoy last nights’ thunderstorms. The headphone output doesn’t seem to be working any more. Guess after all these years (15? 20?) and a couple of expensive Apple dongles, I might have to finally buy a new interface. I’ll probably stick with MOTU and get an M4.

You invented a time machime to go to the future to find out what the homework assignments would be so you could go back to your present time and complete them before they were assigned. Butmyou made mistake and submitted the future homework one day and your tescher was confused. She looked in her syllabus and realized that homework wasnt goimg to be assigned for 6 more weeks. She assumed you must have stolen it from her laptop.

I was smart, but also kind of a punk. It led to a few situations like the one above where I got the shaft merely due to immature adults trying to pound the nail that stuck out. I almost didn't graduate. I had all A's but had an English teacher that had a personal beef with me and was going to fail me. In that case, I actually had two allies. A football coach who had been there for decades and another English teacher. They cornered the faggot and told him if he didn't pass me they were going to take him to the superintendent and use their superior tenure and political clout to get him terminated, and then follow up by pulling strings with the union to see that he never gets reinstated or hired anywhere else. He passed me.

If I learned anything though, it's that high school doesn't really matter and some parents put way too much emphasis on it. I still went to a top law school nonetheless. It didn't real matter in the big scheme of things, though getting fucked hard for standard kid behavior was a motivator to become a lawyer. Now when I tell people to go fuck themselves, they usually do.

I went to school in Massachusetts. Wasn't any smarter than I am now, but I was definitely a punk. I felt like most of my teachers were too try-hard-do-good to have a personal vendetta against a kid (which for a grown man is serious faggot behavior). Maybe it was just because of my ethnic gift for getting on peoples' good side 🍀 🇮🇪 . Did last 4 years in a tech school and those guys were way more chill.

Quelque deux cents invités arrivés à Venise à bord de 95 jets privés et 9 yachts pour trois jours de fête : le récent mariage de Jeff Bezos, patron et fondateur d'Amazon, et de Lauren Sanchez, présentatrice télé, a été un étalage de richesse hors normes. Un an plus tôt, Ivanka Trump, la fille du président américain, et son mari s'offraient une île de la Méditerranée. Montant de la transaction : 1 milliard de dollars. Sociologue dont les travaux portent sur la pauvreté et l'exclusion, professeure à l'École de travail social de l'Université d'Ottawa, Dahlia Namian a publié en 2023 La société de provocation dans lequel elle pourfend la démesure et l'exhibitionnisme du 1 % de la population la plus riche de la planète. Elle y analyse aussi les diverses façons dont cette caste nuit à notre planète et à ses habitants.

Le récent mariage de Jeff Bezos a été jugé par certains d'autant plus indécent que son théâtre, Venise, est menacé par le dérèglement climatique. Qu'en avez-vous pensé ?

Ce mariage est effectivement un exemple de ce que j'ai appelé la société de provocation. Ce fut une démonstration, dans toute sa splendeur, de la démesure de la richesse, d'une porno-opulence qui est à son meilleur. On a vécu une démonstration de toute la domination symbolique, économique et culturelle de ce 1 % des plus riches de la planète. Jusqu'à récemment, ils cherchaient plutôt à cacher leur richesse, et leurs mariages se faisaient généralement dans la discrétion. Ce n'est plus du tout le cas : les puissants paradent, et c'est presque une parade militaire. Ce qui constitue un manifeste de l'impunité de la richesse. On est en train de célébrer une phase du capitalisme global qui outrepasse toutes les règles démocratiques. Et on voit là une élite qui a cessé de se justifier, d'essayer de convaincre, et qui dit "on se fout de ce que vous pensez". Peu importent les conséquences sur la planète.

Pendant ce temps, une partie des 99 autres % regarde, captivée. Qu'est-ce qui fascine chez ces ultra-riches ?

Je pense qu'aujourd'hui, on aime les regarder pour les critiquer. Au Québec, il y a une série d'émissions portant sur les hommes les plus riches, qui montrent tous les gadgets qu'ils aiment. On a ainsi vu la quarantaine de Ferrari que possède le magnat de l'immobilier Luc Poirier. Une autre série s'intéresse aux femmes de conjoints ultrariches. On sait que cela fascine, que cela booste l'audience et génère du clic sur le web. Mais je pense que cette fascination est nourrie par la colère. On entend tout de même un discours très critique envers cette oligarchie, surtout depuis la réélection de Donald Trump.

Votre livre emprunte son titre, "La société de provocation", à Romain Gary. Pourquoi ce choix ?

Je trouvais cette expression pertinente pour décrire cet ordre social qui permet, en toute impunité, au 1 % le mieux nanti de se livrer à toutes les formes de provocation, de décomplexer leur richesse, en érigeant leurs excès de consommation presque comme une vertu, en allant à l'encontre des règles élémentaires de la démocratie, au moment où la planète s'enflamme. La nouveauté, c'est qu'on a rarement rencontré aussi peu de résistance : toutes les tentatives concrètes pour freiner cette accumulation extrême de richesse n'aboutissent à rien. On l'a encore vu récemment au sommet du G7 : le seul dispositif de justice fiscale qui existait est tombé à l'eau. Le Canada s'est plié aux demandes de Trump concernant la taxe sur tous les services du style GAFAM. Dans l'Histoire, il y a toujours eu une caste de gens très riches qui concentraient beaucoup de pouvoir, mais la nouveauté c'est que, malgré leurs multiples provocations, il n'y a pas de volonté politique de les freiner. Un autre élément à relever est qu'ils sont plus résilients face aux crises. On l'a vu en 2008, lors de la crise économique mondiale, puis avec le Covid : ils ont perdu un peu d'argent au départ, mais ont très vite retrouvé leur niveau de richesse. Et depuis la pandémie, on constate qu'il progresse encore.

Dans un monde bouleversé par des catastrophes sociales et écologiques sans précédent, les ultrariches essaient de construire leurs propres paradis en empruntant les chemins de la mer.

Dans votre livre, vous évoquez notamment le business des yachts, qui n'a jamais été aussi florissant, avec des bateaux pouvant coûter jusqu'à 600 ou 700 millions de dollars. Selon vous, le superyacht est "le symbole d'une classe dominante et ouverte sur le monde". Une manière, aussi, de s'extraire de la société et de vivre dans sa bulle ?

Effectivement. L'exemple des yachts est parlant, mais on peut aussi parler de leur velléité de se retirer du monde en cherchant à créer des villes privées ou des espaces en mer, tout comme en colonisant l'espace et Mars. Les villes privées promettent aux élus du capitalisme l'éden dont ils rêvent : une espace qui échappe aux contraintes de l'État, avec ses infâmes lois fiscales, ses terribles lois du travail et ses ingrates règles environnementales et civiques. C'est une vision très libertaire où les riches pourraient vivre dans un entre-soi et échapper à toutes les lois et toutes les règles qui découlent des contraintes d'un vivre-ensemble démocratique. C'est assez clair chez Musk et ceux qui le suivent, dans la Silicon Valley ou ailleurs.

Il y a un an, Ivanka Trump a acheté une île albanaise d'exception, Sazan, en pleine Méditerranée. Son projet est d'y construire un complexe hôtelier de luxe, mais on peut aussi penser qu'elle s'offre un espace de repli, disponible en cas de besoin.

Dans un monde bouleversé par des catastrophes sociales et écologiques sans précédent, les ultrariches essaient de construire leurs propres paradis en empruntant les chemins de la mer. Ils cherchent à prendre la fuite et à se retirer du monde de diverses façons. J'écoutais il y a peu une journaliste de The Atlantic qui s'intéresse à eux. Elle expliquait que, pendant la pandémie, ce que les ultrariches avaient détesté plus que tout, c'est de ne plus pouvoir se déplacer. Rester chez eux était quelque chose de presque insupportable. Il existe un champ de la psychologie sociale qui s'intéresse au comportement des élites et qui a analysé le fait que, lorsque les mesures de restrictions liées au Covid sont tombées, le désir de n'en faire qu'à leur tête s'est encore amplifié. C'est un peu la preuve que l'argent achète tout, ce que l'on constate de plus en plus.

Here's my comment on the video:

Okay, I have to bring this up. Ogle's story, and your story, both have a problem. What is the thermal efficiency of a Ford Galaxy 500 that can do 100mpg?! Lets say it's a 10% efficient engine, which is a low-ball even for the 1970s, and lets say it gets 10mpg out of the factory. Just dumb back-of-the-napkin math says taking that engine to 100mpg is taking it to 100% efficiency.

Okay, maybe you don't like my dumb math, lets try it another way: We know what it's like to put a 40% efficient engine into a car like that, because of the good ol' TDI swap. You get about 30mpg. So you're saying he got to something more efficient than a TDI? How much more efficient? Is more than 60% efficiency even physically realistic? Lets say you have a 90% efficient engine, where are you getting the heat to warm up the fuel? That thing's going to run stone cold!

The problem with Ogle's carburetor is not that it "works but is unrealistic", the problem is that either Ogle is a fraud, or he tapped into some source of energy which he completely did not understand. If for example he was able to somehow trigger a small amount of hydrogen fusion during the combustion then all of the math easily works. But if we're just talking about more efficiently using the chemical energy in a gallon of gasoline, that's just not possible...

His final statement, reproduced below, conveys that he was acting in response to the continuous raids and deportations carried out by Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE). His action occurred on the one-year anniversary of a hunger strike inside the Northwest Detention Center and an encampment outside. "We understand why Willem Van Spronsen decided to give his life to interrupt the violence that is perpetrated against undocumented people in the United States every day.

Okay here is my very simple concept for a #FediCard - a "business card" that encourages people to join the #Fediverse and links to @_elena 's explanatory video.

My idea is that people can hand these out at #protests, political organizations, and so forth - where politically active people gather who already have had bad experiences with commercial social media.

The back side could be customized further to list an instance which is most relevant to the place where you want to share them - for example, I want to print a variant for the gruene.social #Mastodon instance.

I will certainly try to apply my meagre #design skills to make this more appealing, but first I wanted to hear what you all think of this concept, and what your suggestions for improvement are.

The biggest challenge here is that the site has been translated to over 20 languages, all manual work by volunteers, no machine or AI translation involved.

So as you can imagine the impact this has on content updates.

Still, let me give this a bit more thought and see how I can best implement some of this feedback.

#猫志 猫爱喝脚盆水以后，脚盆就变共用大水盆了。每次换水，A水碗B水碗C水碗D脚盆。
刚刚复水冻干，一小碗，掺开水等凉，猫闻了闻回脚盆了，我就跟过去帮他把盆斜起来喝。噼里啪啦的，蹲到我蹲不住为止。
收拾桌面，想称体重，称完还想称猫体重。猫叫了一声，回头看他一眼，坐得正正的，现在回想也没什么异样，但就是几步过去把他抱起来了，移到地上，猫毛毛的肚子在手里抽抽几下，哇啦吐了一滩清水和一丁点食糜。要漫到猫爪了，往后挪一点，猫又哇啦一小口清水。
拍了，留底。
擦地的时候，猫在凉席上老老实实地，我其实有点啼笑皆非的感觉。不过降温食欲影响是真大，凌晨碗里有40g粮左右，吐前还有剩半碗。
也没吐什么毛。很爱干净的短毛狸。猫草片应该还是有用的。
狸依旧走一路跟一路趴一路，蹲下搓一搓就响，手指插在他两爪两蹄之间抖着揉毛毛，他就放松地眯着眼享受。稍微蔫一点，没到要担心的程度。
地板干了以后又去刨刨嗅嗅那块地。一路刨到了猫碗前面，文文静静地开饭了。干粮撅了一小碗，撅冻干。中间怕他一下从空腹吃多了，把正在吃的碗端了起来，狸秩序井然，猫头直接伸到另一个碗里继续吃。行吧都给你吃 :0160:

🚨 Scam Alert: "Verify your Fedi account" Phishing Attempt 🚧

Attention everyone on Mastodon! There's a scam making the rounds where malicious actors impersonate moderators or admins. They send private messages or make posts that mimic notifications, claiming that your account needs verification. These messages often include a link for you to "complete the verification process."

⚠️ This is a Scam!

Your server admin will never ask you to click a link to verify your account.
No other admin from any other server will either, even if they appear to be part of the main Mastodon team.
If your account is suspended, you won't receive a message about it. Instead, you'll see a notification upon logging in that your account is temporarily suspended.

How to Identify the Scam:

Fake admin accounts often use names containing "moderator" or "admin," but this doesn't mean they are legitimate.
Legitimate admins or instance owners usually have a badge or marking on their profile indicating their role.

What to Do:

If you receive a message or post urging you to click a link to verify your account, report it immediately.
If you have any doubts about your account status, contact your server admin or moderation team directly.
To verify the authenticity of an admin or instance owner, visit the "About" page of your instance. This page typically lists contact information for the real team administering your instance.
Always be cautious when interacting with accounts claiming to be from Mastodon or your instance's admin team.

Important Reminder:

Mastodon does not perform age verification. If you receive a message or post claiming to be from Mastodon or your instance's admin team, always verify its authenticity before taking any action.

Reporting the Scam:

If you encounter this scam, report it to your instance's admin team and use relevant tags, such as #FediBlock, to help raise awareness.

trump and Epstein were buddies
but they had bidding war over a property for sale
trump and his NPD traits does not like to lose
so he turned Epstein into the FBI
Then trump was made aware Epstein had evidence against him
so trump had Epstein disappeared

trump and Putin had a deal
Putin was desperate about Ukraine receiving so many weapons from Europe and threatened trump
trump thought it was Putin was blackmailing with all this Epstein stuff
so trump blames his own appointees about Ukraine not getting weapons to punish Putin

Zelenski has always been courteous to Israel, trump has not
And Israel is also desperate and trump had another argument

And more billionaires get desperate about the economic instability and argue with trump

So all the billionaires fight to destroy each other with power while civilians continue to die at an accelerated rate

There are levels of Kompromat that have a lot of people willing to fully turn against their country.
Who holds that incriminating info over so many heads? It's not TFG or Puta, though they obviously hold some.
