Some plants, like tomato plants are self pollinating but even then, sometimes you have to give them a hand by gently shaking the plant like if wind made them move a bit.
Some others, like bell peppers, if you pollinate them, can lose their flowers if they have too much water. I would look it up with search criteria being zucchini loses flowers or something similar.

@dcc @verita84 dnssec can definitely work to verify tampering (or lack thereof) across the wire, but it's not for everyone. introduces latency in the request-cycle, and if by chance you have clock-skew it can cause problems.
a nice alternative is running a local resolver (pick one) and tunneling the requests over wireguard to a vps endpoint. this way tcp/53 udp/53 are forced up the wire and xfinity/comcast/whoever can't fetch and rewrite/steer it.

I think, to really get the most out of a retro system, you need to at least be an interested amateur with programming. That was almost expected in the 80s -- that you would learn some programming language or another and make the software you wanted. The passive consumption model was much less important back then.
I mean, you can still have a good time just playing old and new games on these things. If that's your bag, then I support it fully. But if you think you might be interested in learning to program, you can do a lot worse than learning to code for a C64 or a Sinclar Speccy.
it helped that you could grab a book like ‘80 programs to manage your personal finance in the basic language’ etc. with a clear path of learning code to accomplish something personally useful instead of just coding for the sake of slogging through some incomprehensible corporate bullshit. a whole ecosystem of ‘computer as universal tool’ vs. subscribing to the least worst software package on the market etc.
The most fun I have with my XP era machines is building software with older tools. C# and .NET come to mind, mostly because it's the toolchain I used to use before I stopped caring about computers and software in about 2019...

My roof sprinkler experiment was a success. It reduced my air conditioning by half. If you have well water or aren’t raped by water cartels I suggest it. My water schedule is 15 on and an hour off for evaporation. I just used a flat soaker/spray hose and a cheap chink WiFi hose valve. I 3d printed peak vent hose holders to get the north and south sides of the roof.

If I sunk more money into the system I could make a nice grid and really tune it for some short spray times. Probably next year. I'm yet to figure out how to use their Stealth protocol which is basically Wireguard over TLS without their software, I've built their fork of wireguard-go which they use in their Android app, but I'm yet to figure out how to invoke it so it uses TLS and not the default UDP for transport.
I do use their mail app on Android — should probably switch to bridge + K9 mail, but I'm a lazy ass 😅 BTW I think Bridge has a wrapper which checks for updates, but I've built a binary myself, put it in ~/go/bin and never bothered updating — that is what I use on my laptops. And for scripts I have hydroxide hosted on the same ARM machine, it's an "unofficial" bridge: github.com/emersion/hydroxide Official one doesn't support 32-bit ARM machines, I've tried porting it, but ran into numerous difficulties and hydroxide mostly works as expected.
And for calendars/tasks/address books I've switched to self-hosting Radicale: radicale.org/ It's normal CardDAV/CalDAV server so you can use it with any compatible software and it works nicely on Android phone with DAVx⁵
I really want to like Proton Pass, but I never got comfortable with password managers — well, I do use the one built into Firefox for disposable passwords and I have pass on a special machine for more sensitive ones. On the one hand Pass looks like a more streamlined solution, but on the other… why bother? 😁
All that said, Proton is still very cool, I wish them all the best in their mission of making switching away from Google easy for the less tech-savvy folk.
radicale just works and just works well. i was concerned id have to rely on service. but its deployed on local system, tls terminated behind proxy. attached to wireguard so can reach it anywhere i am even though i dont travel much.

Their guide even has a note on how to configure git hook to put everything under version control, which comes in handy when some weird software decides to cull fields from vCards in the address book all of a sudden — saved my ass a few times. And DAVx⁵ makes it very easy to set up on a phone — both projects are well worth being donated to!

This used to be the case, but I think it's been a couple of years since I had to update the binary, looks like now API got stabilised. Well, in any case, AFAIK Simon (emersion) is no longer interested in supporting the IMAP part so switching to official bridge might still be a wise idea. I hate proton for closing the VPN API endpoint for unauthenticated users, I had my own tiny tool to retrieve server load info, which I used for switching to the least loaded server from a predefined list of exit countries in a cron job. Now I have to figure out a way to authenticate — maybe not a bad thing, my last tool was in Go, time to apply my skills and re-implement it in Rust 😄

i only used them prior when part of paid gift sub i received 😅 but it worked pretty well. i had used their client (circa 2018) on a t440 and it worked but felt bloaty(?).

Yes, they do support "normal" WireGuard — over UDP that is. Last I checked, in-kernel implementation worked fine for me. Alas, we have local… "peculiarities" — WireGuard connections to the outside world are filtered by most ISPs and cell carriers. Wrapping it in TLS makes it somewhat obfuscated — at least it looks like a legitimate connection, not something-something VPN. Right now on my phone to access "unfiltered" Internet I have to use WireGuard to connect to my home network where I have a box always connected to Proton over OpenVPN and use Squid proxy running on it — not exactly your average guy's setup, but I don't really mind as it enables me to access my internal resources directly from my phone. Sadly, OpenVPN is also not guaranteed to always work — sometimes they start filtering its traffic too 😩 Some get a cheap VPS and host a VPN server for even more obfuscated protocols like V2/VLess — good protocols, I believe that's what they use to bypass censorship in China! Problem is — sometimes they start blocking IP ranges, AFAIK currently Hetzner and CloudFlare are blocked, so they might also block my VPS at some point. Proton at least has hundreds of entry points belonging to IP ranges of different countries — at least some of them should remain reachable. That is why I think figuring out how to use their flavour of WireGuard wrapped in TLS is still a good strategy for now.

Oui, j'ai l'impression que ça dégrade… Je lisais moto journal parce que j'étais abonné avec l'assurance avant de me désabonner. Mais Oui, dans les années 2000, ça me paraissait un journal sérieux, ça c'est dégradé dans les années 2010, j'ai l'impression. Un peu comme FFMC qui est encore à défendre des trucs du dernier millénaire.

@tonton_mollo j’ai longtemps été à la FFMC, mais j’ai arreté quand nos avis ont divergé. Mais le pire, c’est MotoMag’ qui est devenu terriblement boomer-powered au point que je me suis desabonné. J'étais adhérent de la FFMC avant de laisser tomber, parce qu'effectivement c'était toujours les même sujets en boucle dont une opposition frontale au contrôle technique. Avec toujours cette ambiance viriliste et cette obsession de la moto plaisir au détriment d'autres sujets ou la FFMC aurait pu avoir un temps d'avance (écologie, déplacement urbain, etc… ). @nitot
C'est vrai qu'accuser un mouvement qui a plus de 40 ans avec des jugements sans arguments vraiment fondés et le juger très à droite c'est une façon apaisée et polie de discuter.
