A Colorado man accused of attempting to kidnap an 11-year-old boy will no longer face charges after being found “mentally incompetent to stand trial,” according to the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office (DA).

Solomon Galligan, 33, was charged with attempted kidnapping in April 2024 after allegedly trying to nab the child during recess at Black Forest Hills Elementary School in Aurora.

As I reported on X on Sunday, it appears Attorney General Pamela Bondi and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino have agreed to a truce. Bongino was prepared to imminently resign over Bondi’s botched handling of the Jeffrey Epstein matter; President Trump told reporters on Sunday he had spoken with Bongino and indicated his longtime friend was “in good shape” without any plans to depart soon.

(1/2) Genuinely the most thought-provoking thing I've read from @pluralistic who regularly blows my mind, so this is saying a lot.

I naively thought of FOSS as building a "commons." A functional alternative to property-expansionism. Not that I knew there weren't exceptions, but I never fully appreciated the existing tensions because...well FOSS seems like a commons.

But how and why you build something is as important as what you build. That's what determines function.

(2/2) A kind of similar tension exists in market capitalism, actually. I just wrote about it.

Perhaps this is just a microcosm of that. Just as open source introduces the risk of "strategic openness" or actors who instrumentally leverage open source for their own ends. Capitalist property rights allow companies to do something similar.

This "enclosure" of value and information via (mis)use of property rights makes markets functionally worse over time.

The nearly **200 pages of Jeffrey Epstein’s 2008 grand jury documents from Florida** were released by a Florida judge in early 2024, shedding new light on Epstein’s crimes and the lenient plea deal he received despite graphic testimony of sexual abuse[1][2]. These documents include firsthand victim accounts, details on payments to underage girls, and evidence of how Epstein recruited and abused teenage girls as young as 14 at his Palm Beach mansion[2].

### Link to the released documents
The documents are publicly viewable online through Florida court records and news outlets that have published them, such as the Florida Politics website, which hosts over 150 pages of grand jury transcripts related to Epstein’s 2006 investigation[10].

### Top 10 interesting details from the 2008 Epstein documents:

| Detail | Description |
|--------|-------------|
| **1. Graphic Victim Testimony** | Victims testified in detail about being raped and sexually abused by Epstein, some as young as 14 years old[2]. |
| **2. Payments to Victims** | Documents reveal Epstein paid underage girls for sex and to recruit other girls for him[1][2]. |
| **3. Lenient Plea Deal** | Despite the severity of the crimes, Epstein avoided federal charges and served only 13 months in a county jail with work release privileges[1][2]. |
| **4. Extensive Network** | Epstein’s contacts included powerful figures in business, politics, and royalty, though no direct criminal involvement of these figures is confirmed in these documents[1][3][5]. |
| **5. List of Masseuses** | Epstein kept a list of 254 masseuses, many underage, some of whom were pressured into sexual acts[4]. |
| **6. Physical Evidence** | FBI seized items including sex toys, restraints, and massage tables from Epstein’s properties[4]. |
| **7. Grand Jury’s Shock** | The judge who ordered the release described the testimony as “outrageous” and “disgusting,” highlighting the state’s controversial leniency[1][2]. |
| **8. Victims’ Lawsuits** | The documents include testimonies from lawsuits filed by survivors who challenged the plea deal as too lenient and violating their rights[3]. |
| **9. Connection to Ghislaine Maxwell** | Maxwell’s role as Epstein’s accomplice is detailed in related cases and documents, with her now serving a prison sentence[1][3]. |
| **10. Public Outrage and Legal Reform** | The release followed new Florida laws allowing disclosure of grand jury documents and increased public demand for accountability[1]. |

These documents provide a rare, detailed glimpse into Epstein’s criminal activities and the systemic failures that allowed him to evade harsher punishment for years. The release has fueled ongoing investigations and calls for justice for his victims[1][2][3].

If you want to read the documents yourself, the Florida Politics site and other news outlets have made the transcripts accessible online[10].

Excluding Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Donald Trump, the released 2008 Florida court documents and related lawsuits name several other individuals who have been sued or publicly implicated in connection with Epstein’s sex trafficking network. Here are the top names outside of those three, based on court filings and unsealed records:

### Top 10 names (excluding Epstein, Maxwell, Trump) being sued or implicated:

| Name | Context/Details |
|-------|-----------------|
| **Haley Robson** | Named as a defendant in a 2008 lawsuit alongside Epstein, accused of conspiring to recruit and lure victims for sexual abuse[1]. |
| **Sarah Kellen** | Also named in the same 2008 lawsuit as Robson, alleged to have helped facilitate Epstein’s trafficking operation[1]. |
| **Jean-Luc Brunel** | French modeling agent accused of supplying underage girls to Epstein; faced lawsuits and died during trial for sex trafficking charges[3]. |
| **Richard Barnett** | Mentioned in court filings as having received legal documents; connected to Epstein’s legal defense or network but not criminally charged[2]. |
| **Tiffany Doe (pseudonym)** | A witness or victim referenced in court documents who provided testimony about abuse witnessed at Epstein’s events[3]. |
| **Unnamed “John Does”** | Numerous unidentified defendants named in lawsuits, representing individuals alleged to be part of Epstein’s network or conspirators[5]. |
| **Roy Black** | Epstein’s defense attorney, named in some victim lawsuits alleging complicity or enabling, though not criminally charged[3]. |
| **Alexander Acosta** | Former U.S. Attorney who approved Epstein’s controversial plea deal; named in public criticism and legal scrutiny though not sued directly[5]. |
| **Various unnamed “high-profile guests”** | Court documents mention powerful guests at Epstein’s properties, but many remain unnamed due to privacy or lack of charges[4][8]. |
| **Jane Does (multiple plaintiffs)** | Numerous victims who filed lawsuits under pseudonyms, naming various individuals involved in the trafficking conspiracy[1][5]. |

### Summary
- **Haley Robson and Sarah Kellen** are the most prominent named co-defendants in 2008 lawsuits alleging active participation in recruiting and facilitating abuse.
- **Jean-Luc Brunel** is the most notable associate outside Epstein/Maxwell publicly sued and linked to trafficking.
- Many other individuals remain unnamed or pseudonymous (“John Does”) in the documents due to ongoing investigations and privacy protections.
- Some figures like **Roy Black** and **Alexander Acosta** appear in legal or public scrutiny contexts but are not formally defendants in abuse lawsuits.

These names come directly from the 2008 Florida court filings and subsequent unsealed records related to Epstein’s trafficking ring, reflecting those legally implicated or sued beyond the most famous figures.

If you want to explore the full court documents, the 2008 lawsuits filed in Florida are publicly available through the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida records[1][2].

I've had one as my main bike for over a year. I'm not sure what your needs are but here are my thoughts:
* It's generally well suited for everyday city life. I rode mine through the winter and never washed it. The belt doesnt care.
* The gear range is great unless you have steep hills.
* Weirdly, the fork doesn't have the mounting hole at the bottom for a fender, but it does have one at the top. I use their recommended fenders with the Velcro straps and they've been great.
* Be sure to practice taking the wheels off. The gear cable attaches at the back in a weird way and you have to disconnect that to take the wheel off. Make sure you know how to do it.
* The hub really doesn't want you to peddle while you shift. If you do, it will feel like you shifted just fine and then a few seconds later your drivetrain will jolt as it actually gets into where it's supposed it.
* They say you can't use a front rack but it has all the mounting points for one. I suspect this is because tightening a bolt too hard on the carbon fork crown could cause safety issues. I have a rack there anyway and it's been fine.
* The hub has a sprag clutch which means it doesn't click. It's truly silent while pedaling and coasting.
* The rear sprocket is a Gates Surefit. This requires a special tool to take on and off. I had to buy one off Italian eBay. Your bike shop almost certainly won't have one.
* The bike is pretty heavy. Not that big a deal for most things but it is what it is.
* I've changed the oil once but otherwise never messed with the drivetrain. It's very low maintenance

So fucking tired and angry with BBC and Labour Party bullshit about Palestine, and everything else too

Today's report critcizes the production company for not "disclosing" that the 13 year old narrator was the son of a "Hamas official", while acknowledging that not one word of what the child said was influenced by this relationship.

Labour Oberlieutenant Lisa Nandy refers to this as "a serious of catastrophic failures"

Not every child even knows what their parent does. A document of life in Palestine from a child’s eyes reveals how they see the now, the future, and shows the human perspective no holds barred. Leave it to the audience to interpret - clearly the fear is just how much more anger people will feel against the Israeli government if they show the true horrors being faced every day there by ordinary people.

211 MILLIARDS !

Britain Urged to Confront Israel over Systematic Settler Violence in Occupied West Bank tn.ai/3354067

New update from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition striving to with civilian ship break Israel's illegal siege against the population of the Gaza Strip of Palestine
─────
We are setting sail again. On July 13, 2025 our boat 'Handala' will depart from Siracusa, Italy to break Israel’s illegal blockade. This mission is for the children of Gaza.

Just weeks ago, Israeli forces illegally seized our boat 'Madleen' and abducted 12 unarmed civilians aboard her in international waters.

Since March, more than 6,572 Palestinians have been killed, over 23,000 injured, and hundreds shot while waiting for food. The children of Gaza now face famine, disease, and trauma few of us can imagine.

We are not governments. We are people taking action where institutions have failed. We are not backing down. 🇵🇸

New update just now from the Freedom FLotilla:
─────
From less than 100 nautical miles off Gaza’s coast, Tan and Robert launched a hunger strike aboard the Handala. They participated in this action because the Australian government is complicit in Israel’s genocide and it’s time to demanded accountability.

“As ‘Australians,’ we refuse to stay silent while our government arms Israel’s slaughter of Palestinians.”

They join 17 others in this collective action at sea.

Read their full letter.
Take escalated action for Gaza.

New update from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition:
─────
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition confirms that upon arrival in Israeli custody, U.S. human rights defender Christian Smalls was physically assaulted by seven uniformed individuals. They choked him and kicked him in the legs, leaving visible signs of violence on his neck and back.

When his lawyer met with him, Christian was surrounded by six members of Israel’s special police unit. This level of force was not used against other abducted activists.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition condemns this violence against Chris and demands accountability for the assault and discriminatory treatment he faced.

@RBG @disisdeguey While I of course don't disagree with what either of you noted and appreciate your intent, I would encourage avoiding phrasing such situations as "old news" or similar, because it probably in my opinion increases normalization for it, even though I understand that was not at all intended.
It is just a subconscious thing, I believe, that when people see "old" it automatically interprets it as at least partially "normal", while this can of course never be accepted as normal, by or unto anyone.

What is the flag of Handala? Denmark?

Then Israel committed a war act against Denmark by illegally boarding and stopping its vessel deep deep in international waters.

Whatever country's flag that was, it is being silent and quiet, instead of confiscating every Israeli asset and calling up its ambassador for apologies and reparations.

A vessel carrying a country's flag is a sovereign part of that state.

x264 AV1 file, vlc and mpv on debian 12.11, problems to play it, what to do?

the x264 av1 file plays only audio on vlc but works with flaws on mpv: on mpv I get audio and video, but every 5 to 6 seconds it's like instead of getting 24 fps I get 22, the user noticing the missing frames.

Is this a hardware issue? software?

Check using e.g. top for your CPU (nvidia-smi or amd-smi for your GPU) or System Monitor on KDE if any of your resource is being maxed out. If so then most likely you found the culprit.

Regarding what the actual codec is being used you can use ffprobe but anyway what matters if resource bottleneck and thus if you can have hardware acceleration for it.

It's probably worth investigating so that you don't keep on getting video files too big for your computer to handle. I imagine it's something very high resolution with very recent compression. If so, look for something less demanding, e.g. x265 720p and if that's still leading to performance hiccups the older x264 720p or even 480p.

It's rate that the media player itself, e.g. VLC or mpv, actually is the bottleneck.
