Yeah, still on track to sell about 1,000 units a day. If that trend continues, the run will sell out. Legitimately impressive if they pull that off, though I'd be surprised if it doesn't level off at some point before that.
I have what I'm calling "realistic expectations" for this particular product. I think it will be delivered, because it's all stuff that is in production now anyway and there's no point to taking money you'll just have to give back at the cost of your own reputation.
I think it'll be equivalent to a really good quality Ultimate 64, with nice mechanical keyboard. Other than that, it's just a good deal on what you get for the price, and a totally sensible first real product to get your company taken seriously.
It's not gonna change the world, it's not going to make the haters eat crow, but I think it'll be a product launch they pulled off, because they made sensible choices and reasonable promises.
And who knows, they might have something really cool in development, but nowhere near ready to show off. It's certainly possible -- there's real brainpower involved in this thing, not just a good showman and some pretty renders.
This is about how I feel about it, and I don't know what all the drama is. They took some existing, working products, plan to do some integration work, and are going to sell the package cheaper than you could buy the components, making up the difference (presumably, if they're good at what they do) in economies of scale. I don't necessarily want one, but it seems like a solid plan and a likely success, even if it turns into a one-hit wonder. (Which is OK, I think?)
@elb I think they're mad that Simpson might succeed, and make Commodore a going concern again. Not a big player, certainly, but with the investment as low as it is, they don't need to shake up the world to be a success.
I do anticipate there being some friction when the new Commodore International is forced to enforce their trademarks in order to keep them, but that's not new in the retrocomputing world, or for Commodore in particular, even. I will be interested to see how they navigate that, since one of the claimed goals is to license the Commodore name to people's individual retrocomputing projects, but in the meantime it's certainly not (to me) worse than some faceless corp.
For sure, but I think Simpson in particular will run into the (unfortunately common) issue that people think they "know him" because they've watched his YouTube videos, so they feel personally affronted when something he has isn't made available to them.

Headed out to pick up my new bike, but it turns out that it was too big for me, so I returned it and had to buy a new one which cost $500 more. The bike that I had purchased was last years model and they were sold out of my size.
I've had one as my main bike for over a year. I'm not sure what your needs are but here are my thoughts: * It's generally well suited for everyday city life. I rode mine through the winter and never washed it. The belt doesnt care. * The gear range is great unless you have steep hills. * Weirdly, the fork doesn't have the mounting hole at the bottom for a fender, but it does have one at the top. I use their recommended fenders with the Velcro straps and they've been great. * Be sure to practice taking the wheels off. The gear cable attaches at the back in a weird way and you have to disconnect that to take the wheel off. Make sure you know how to do it. * The hub really doesn't want you to peddle while you shift. If you do, it will feel like you shifted just fine and then a few seconds later your drivetrain will jolt as it actually gets into where it's supposed it. * They say you can't use a front rack but it has all the mounting points for one. I suspect this is because tightening a bolt too hard on the carbon fork crown could cause safety issues. I have a rack there anyway and it's been fine. * The hub has a sprag clutch which means it doesn't click. It's truly silent while pedaling and coasting. * The rear sprocket is a Gates Surefit. This requires a special tool to take on and off. I had to buy one off Italian eBay. Your bike shop almost certainly won't have one. * The bike is pretty heavy. Not that big a deal for most things but it is what it is. * I've changed the oil once but otherwise never messed with the drivetrain. It's very low maintenance

Just weeks ago, Israeli forces illegally seized our boat 'Madleen' and abducted 12 unarmed civilians aboard her in international waters.
Since March, more than 6,572 Palestinians have been killed, over 23,000 injured, and hundreds shot while waiting for food. The children of Gaza now face famine, disease, and trauma few of us can imagine.

Dr. Yipeng joined temporarily the Freedom Flotilla Coalition in Siracusa, delivering a prosthetic limb donated to 'Handala', for the children of Gaza. New update from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition: ───── The Freedom Flotilla Coalition confirms that upon arrival in Israeli custody, U.S. human rights defender Christian Smalls was physically assaulted by seven uniformed individuals. They choked him and kicked him in the legs, leaving visible signs of violence on his neck and back.
When his lawyer met with him, Christian was surrounded by six members of Israel’s special police unit. This level of force was not used against other abducted activists.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition condemns this violence against Chris and demands accountability for the assault and discriminatory treatment he faced. ─────

@RBG @disisdeguey While I of course don't disagree with what either of you noted and appreciate your intent, I would encourage avoiding phrasing such situations as "old news" or similar, because it probably in my opinion increases normalization for it, even though I understand that was not at all intended. It is just a subconscious thing, I believe, that when people see "old" it automatically interprets it as at least partially "normal", while this can of course never be accepted as normal, by or unto anyone.
Then Israel committed a war act against Denmark by illegally boarding and stopping its vessel deep deep in international waters.
Whatever country's flag that was, it is being silent and quiet, instead of confiscating every Israeli asset and calling up its ambassador for apologies and reparations.
A vessel carrying a country's flag is a sovereign part of that state.
