Parti à 15h25 de chez mes parents pour avoir un train à 16h11 à Nancy, en 45mn normalement c'est large faisable. Mais c'était sans compter avec le #pdvdfsm tout le long du canal 😬

Du coup j'ai bourré comme un cochon, bien à plat dans les prolongateurs, autant que possible avec un sac sur le dos... et je suis arrivé en a peine plus de 30mn, totalement trempé de sueur. Bordel, parfois je me déteste 🥲

Interesting. It doesn't do that for me (with Debian packages gimp-3.0.4-3). Now that I've clicked the "Add" mode button, my lasso tool is now set to add by default, even when changing tools, even in different images' windows, even after restarting GIMP.

(That said, I have trained myself to use those keyboard shortcuts, except when I accidentally confuse Shift (add) and Control (subtract), at which point I get the opposite of what I wanted.)

The #EU #DMA compliance workshops exist to regulate gatekeepers powers, yet both #Apple and #Google treat them like "product launches" where non-engineers show slides and can never answer questions.

The Android play-field, instead of taking steps to respect the DMA, Google shrinks what Android even is. If Apple can own its closed iOS, Google figured they can privatize Android?

Maybe it being #FOSS for 17 years was just a glitch and now Android is out of the famous Google betas?

I think they definitely have begun to realize that they sort of painted themselves into a corner by giving us something so open. They want to be like Apple and make money hand over fist locking people into a platform -- and honestly, some of what Gapps is doing these days and how they're doing stuff exclusive to the most recent Pixels only is really starting to get there. I'm convinced Google will legitimately lock Android down soon and I don't think third parties are ready for this.

I really wish people would put their collective foot down on Google's current practices now, before it's too late, but we all know it will only happen after it's way too late.

A very good article on awful Google AI search results and how Google have ruined their own reputation by wrecking their workforce, by @pluralistic. A quote:

'Publishers and advertisers have more concentrated money than readers, but the dominant theory of antitrust since the Reagan administration is something called "consumer welfare," which holds that monopolistic conduct is only to be condemned if it makes consumers worse off. If a company screws its workers or suppliers in order to deliver better products and/or better prices, then "consumer welfare" holds that the government should celebrate and protect the monopolist for improving "efficiency."

But all that is true only if Google AI Overviews are good. And they are very, very bad.'

Reading this article now. "Housefresh released its latest report on Google's enshittification, this time with an emphasis on the "AI Overviews" that now surmount every search results page."

It also strikes me that that AI overview is also likely an attempt to supplant Wikipedia's place in the digital landscape, since that's the actually-somewhat-reliable thing that would come up in that position otherwise.

Which I'm sure Google would be •just fine• with....

Finished reading Tress of the Emerald Sea, and was good, even if not what I was expecting. How much is a Cosmere book? I don't know; if it wasn't written as a fairy tale, may be it would have landed better. 3/5 for me.

My 7th book of 2025, but no way I'll read 24 like previous years.

Next one in the queue: Attack Surface by @pluralistic -- looking forward to it, loved Little Brother and Homeland.
