I finally watched The Godfather III, or as it's called now, "The Godfather: Coda: "The Death of Michael Corleone"".
It wasn't as bad as I had been led to believe. Looked pretty, relatively easy-to-follow plot (one reason it got negative reviews, as Godfather fans prefer the subtlety of the first two), lush costumes and sets. Sofia Coppola was cringey as Mary, but I learned she didn't even want the part or to be an actress, and only did it because Wynona Ryder dropped out the day filming started and her dad needed a replacement pronto. Dad (Francis Ford) was also declaring bankruptcy during shooting, so needed the money. You know, everyone pulled together for The Family, the Coppola family, even if it hollowed out their souls.
So now I've seen all 3 and don't have to watch any more, and can go back to reading a new translation of The Book of Job instead. Hooray!

the movie is Ever After: A Cinderella Story and it is referencing the siege of Weinsberg.
in 1140 King Conrad III defeated the Duke of Welf and placed Weinsberg under siege. the wives of the besieged castle negotiated a surrender which granted them the right to leave with whatever they could carry on their shoulders. The king allowed them that much.
Leaving everything else aside, each woman took her own husband on her shoulders and carried him out. When the king saw what was happening, he laughed and accepted the women's clever trick.
"A king" he said, "should always stand by his word."
