Exactly. No matter the y dimension. Barcode data is only stored in x. Whereas QR uses x and y for data.
They also use the corner squares and a few specific dots to allow scanning from greater angles. Basically allowing the data to be read in 3d space. Even though only 2d is used to store that data.
This is why QR can work well with cameras. Whereas bar codes are designed for very short range laser reflection.

Instead it does some weird rendition of 6 digit codes generated by the ISPs servers from the dumb mobile app. (Everything has to be "smart" these days.) It doesn't even seem to host some alternative page on another port or page.

I finally watched The Godfather III, or as it's called now, "The Godfather: Coda: "The Death of Michael Corleone"". It wasn't as bad as I had been led to believe. Looked pretty, relatively easy-to-follow plot (one reason it got negative reviews, as Godfather fans prefer the subtlety of the first two), lush costumes and sets. Sofia Coppola was cringey as Mary, but I learned she didn't even want the part or to be an actress, and only did it because Wynona Ryder dropped out the day filming started and her dad needed a replacement pronto. Dad (Francis Ford) was also declaring bankruptcy during shooting, so needed the money. You know, everyone pulled together for The Family, the Coppola family, even if it hollowed out their souls.
So now I've seen all 3 and don't have to watch any more, and can go back to reading a new translation of The Book of Job instead. Hooray!

While pkpass is an Apple format used in its wallet app to store data.
