If you buy games, books, zines, assets, software, music or anything else on itch, please leave ratings!
They affect the order in which items are displayed in collections and jams, as well as in ranked search results.
Itch's top-rated lists weight games by both number of ratings and score, but aggregate ratings of less than five stars tend to disproportionately skew games' appearance on these lists downwards, so a template game with 18 reviews but a perfect five stars will appear several rows above a well-regarded commercial release with more ratings but an aggregate score of 4.8 stars.
This isn't a philosophy everyone can get behind, but it can thus be worth regarding ratings you leave as a Steam-style thumbs-up: if you like a thing, give it five stars.
When you leave a rating, you're given the option of leaving a review. The creator of the the thing you're reviewing will be able to read that, but it won't appear on the item's page - only an aggregated total of review scores appears, under the More information pull-down at the bottom of the description on its itch page.
If you want other people to read your words about that thing you like, you have to write it as a comment on the product's page.
You can also add items you like to collections and recommend them to your friends that way. People whose stuff you include in a collection can see that it's been included a collection and, if your collection is public, are shown a link to your collection in their analytics pages.
(We don't get to see your private collections, just that the number of collections our thing is in has gone up.)

The news today is all terrible, again. And that's me comparing it to the local conditions: a large black bear that has killed 5 sheep, and a donkey, right next door - a bear possibly now wounded - roaming in our suburban hamlet. This we will get past, but the country may not survive its bad news: the wanton destruction of all America's strengths, for the sake of making its failings Great Again.
It seems to me that most people in the US believe they can weather this unnatural disaster by hiding in a virtual closet, in the center hall of their poorly-built virtual house, and waiting for the shitstorm to pass. There are, of course, some fools standing out in the flying feces and cheering (I've just seen my first one here in the fediverse, and it's a bit disappointing). Far more are hiding.
And there are some - many, but not enough - raising alarms, trying to secure the storm doors. Lawyers, scientists, researchers, so many other professionals who my heart hurts for, as they watch their life's work tossed to the storm and destroyed. And ordinary people, too, calling attention to the rising tide of excrement while trying to avoid falling in, or being tossed out.
How do we wake people up, the people in the "safe" closet in the flimsy house? For the sake of our children, our grandchildren, the fucking planet, we need to stop this before it's the Antebellum South and Weimar Germany all rolled into one, a confluence engineered by Project 2025 to bring on the much-awaited apocalyptic Rapture.
What we need is the American Black Bear spirit. I hope it's not dead.

Watching The Five, and Tarlov tosses out that Kansas and Florida has govt run grocery stores “and they are right leaning states”.
So i looked it up. Florida has ONE city that opened a govt run/owned grocery store. It is slated to close because it can’t sustain itself. Kansas had 2. One city, Erie, bought a grocery store to prevent it from closing during Covid.
No one said how the stores are doing. Things that make you go hmmmm. Bottom line, they failed.
