Fortunately, the files themselves are saved in Dropbox (I made him do this years ago because I anticipated something like this was going to eventually happen). He just no longer owns a computer that can run Quicken 2002, so he can't access the files.
It's gonna be a long day.

Will give it a try. My current path is to try to get Quicken 2004 to run, then convert 2002 to a 2004 file. Then install Quicken 2013 (the last before they switched to subscription service) and then see if I can convert 2004 to 2013. That should keep him running for a while, at least.
He tends to think computers are like Star Trek - buy them once and they work forever without any problems or changes.
