Are we as a human civilisation ever going to sit down and collectively address the fact that we lived through a quasi-pandemic and our govts virtually cosplayed their way through it as if it was the actual end of times?

It's almost as if we aren't a truth seeking species anymore, merely a comfort seeking one.

What is missing post Covid is trust. The fallout is representative govt as a system is dead in the water. The West moves to cryptographically secured direct participatory democracies or we go into a modern dark age filled with civil wars across the globe.

Lyrics still relevant today...
"Driven To Tears" - Sting (1986 'Bring On The Night')

Verse 1
How can you say that you're not responsible?
What does it have to do with me?
What is my reaction, what should it be?
Confronted by this latest atrocity

Chorus
Driven to tears

Verse 2
Hide my face in my hands, shame wells in my throat
My comfortable existence is reduced to a shallow meaningless party
Seems that when some innocents die
All we can offer them is a page in some magazine
Too many cameras and not enough food
'Cause this is what we've seen

Chorus
Driven to tears

Bridge
Protest is futile, nothing seems to get through
What's to become of our world, who knows what to do

Chorus
Driven to tears

I have a couple towers and micros around the house running plasma. We use them for mpd clients, watching movies, emulation, etc. I do have one tower I use as the main file server. It has 32tb in it. I have another duplicate tower that's the backup.

My kids actually use i3wm in their rooms, but plasma is easier to use when using kdeconnect to control from across the room as compared to having a keyboard in my lap.

I get stuff for free. People keep handing me shit.

As for electricity, I just use wake on lan and shut stuff down when it's not being used. Everything is hardwired here except our phones and tablets.

As for the server, drives park after 20 minutes. So it cuts cost, but even then, and old Dell Tower does draw a lot of power when idle.

When I was a kid, we used to show up on jobs and you'd have like a water pump and the wire was already pulled right up to the pump, 3 wires here, 3 wires there, connect them together and turn on the breaker.

That's when the general contractor knows what he's doing. You only ask the bare minimum from the guy who gets paid 3x as much and only wants to work on when it's not too hot, not too cold, not raining, etc...

in reply to Caleb James DeLisle

The problem is that it doesn't work in reverse. Roofers can't install solar to the extent electrical work is required.

Honestly, state policy is fucked six ways to Sunday when it comes to solar. Yard sprinkers are more tightly regulated.

Plus, I'll tell you, contracts are cheap. Real deals get done on trust and relationships, even if there's a contract in the middle. Dealing in business with someone you don't know and who doesn't have a reputation to maintain in the community is a huge risk.

> Roofers can't install solar to the extent electrical work is required.

Yeah so what you do is you have roofers install everything up to getting the wire into the attic (or outdoor junction box), then you have a *trusted* electrician come in, snake the wire to the main panel, and sign off on all of the work as his own. It's the only way it can work.

So AOC *admits* that Israel is committing genocide - but still believes that it has a right to defend itself?

What the fuck is wrong with this woman?

(Also worth noting that this is not about MTG - she also voted against Rashida Tlaib's anti-Israel amendments back in March, so this has nothing to do with MTG and everything to do with AOC's moral decrepitude.)

in reply to She Was Speaking

Mind you, leftists have been warning y'all about AOC for years. This woman is a spineless hack. She has always been a spineless hack.

Unfortunately, whitewashing Biden's complicity in genocide was utilitarian enough that even a lot of progressives were willing to dismiss it and make excuses for her, so our criticism of her largely fell on deaf ears.

This is a bit of a pattern I've noticed, actually. It happened with Contrapoints, too. Like, nonbinary people (and many trans folk) were saying that Contrapoints was a piece of shit *five years ago*. But we're a niche within a niche, and our voices are easy to ignore, so Contrapoints got to coast along as a progressive icon, if with the occasional acknowledgement that she's made a few minor missteps. (Leftists also pointed out that her palling around with Hillary Clinton was *not* a good look.)

Then Contrapoints finally did something so bad that even the people who didn't give a shit about her enbyphobia couldn't ignore it. The result? A torrent of people going, "what happened?! She used to be so progressive!" - when in reality, she was *always* a bigot, it was just easy to ignore for most people up until recently. It's *still* easy to ignore for many.

We need to stop treating "niche" issues as minor blemishes that don't reflect on a person's overall character, and start treating them as warning signs that, if not addressed, will precipitate even more blatant betrayals in the future. In other words, we're going to need more purity tests.

"Trump's conspiratorial base are hugely and reliably animated by stories about impunity for elite sex predators. As well they should be! Elite sex predators get away with all kinds of crimes -- not just Epstein, but the whole universe of powerful men, from Harvey Weinstein to Donald Trump, who systematically abused women for decades and got away with it -- bragged about it, even!

"But despite these very real abusers, the conspiracists in the Trump base are mostly concerned with _imaginary_ abusers -- Qanon's shadowy cabal of adrenochrome-guzzling pedophiles, tirelessly freighting trafficked children from one nonexistent pizza parlor basement to the next, packed inside of very mid Wayfair home furnishings.… "

I still haven't received any donations toward groceries or a cervical neck pillow. I haven't been able to share this as often because of the pain and brain fog. My goal is to restock pantry staples so that my mother and I can survive through grocery inflation. You know absolute basics rice beans canned tomatoes. About $300 should be enough but don't know with all the price increases.

I also need to get a cervical neck pillow. My pressure headaches are not just getting worse but more frequent and affecting my ability to care for my mother. The pressure may be contributing to my growing depression and suicidal thoughts when waking. I know I need to see a doctor, but I'm not clear-headed enough to set up an appointment, nor will family help me do so. Getting one of those pillows may help me to the point of getting medical help. They usually go for between $40 and $60, so around $70 should be right. Please 🙏
