July 25, 2025 @ 12:45 Good afternoon family & friends❣️ Stuff going on today so I'm late with my "morning" here...oops! J&E came to help us out with some house stuff today since Gwen & Don are coming to visit - and meet Gloria - next week and the house must be ready! (Have you ever known anyone who had a separate ceiling broom just for cobwebs before? That 🤯 when I learned of it years ago, now I hope that my ceiling passes muster!) We always joked that Gwen was Felix and I was Oscar...but at least I figure I should try. Or rather, I should get someone else to try hahaha! But it's always good to spend time with Emma (while Jared and Pete are doing their thing outside, usually)! Anyway, I'm not sure how the day will pan out after this, most certainly I will need rest...already do as a matter of fact...so I will get done what I can do - if anything! But another fun thing is something I didn't think we'd be doing for quite a while...then I was tidying up my..................................[BIG INTERRUPTION - to be continued]

I will post a quick Sherry Shares video tonight for those of you subscribed to those [onmarcopolo.com/sharecast/siyc…], but will do photos tomorrow. Tonight I can barely think or move or stay vertical. But Emma worked so hard - and I ended up doing all the things I shouldn't be doing - and then we needed Lyra so went to get her to help us too...and I had to finish up by myself in the end which took several hours. VERY pleased with the results, for the most part, but at the moment I'm just plain done in 😩. So I will sign off, won't be doing anything else tonight except eating and going to bed, and I will see you in the morning. Good night, sleep tight❣️🙏🤕🌛💤

A Call From the Workers of Gaza to Labor Unions Around the World: A Cry in the Face of Starvation and Genocide abolitionmedia.noblogs.org/205…

A Call From the Workers of Gaza to Labor Unions Around the World: A Cry in the Face of Starvation and Genocide

To all free workers everywhere,
To our comrades in trade unions and labor federations around the world,

We bring to you the statement of the workers of Gaza, issued by the Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions, addressed to the workers and unions of the world—this final appeal they have named “A Cry Before Death.” It reaches us from the midst of hunger and siege, from beneath the rubble of factories and homes, and from the heart of a continuing war of extermination that has gone on for nearly 22 months alongside a systematic policy of mass starvation executed by “Israel” with direct support from the United States and its European partners.

The statement reads:
“The Israeli war has destroyed 80% of Gaza’s homes, all of its factories, workshops, and sources of livelihood, and most of its farmland has been bulldozed.”

Indeed, the lives of workers, fishermen, farmers, and all productive social sectors in the besieged Strip have been turned into a living hell. Their families are now without shelter and without income. There is no food and no medicine. One worker says: “We are besieged by American and European weapons, choked by hunger, neglect, and silence — all in an attempt to destroy our lives, to break our resilience, and to crush the will of resistance in our people.”

We address you today once again, not merely as victims, but as the workers of Palestine: an integral part of the popular and working classes of this world, struggling for justice, liberation, and dignity. And we call upon you to:

  • Break the silence and complicity, raise your voices within your unions and federations, and denounce the policies of starvation, siege, and massacre in Gaza.
  • Pressure your governments to end arms deals and military cooperation with the occupation, and to impose sanctions on the Zionist settler-colonial and apartheid regime.
  • Boycott companies that support the occupation, and withdraw union investments from any company, institution, or entity involved in funding or profiting from the war.
  • Organize days of rage and global solidarity in factories and workshops, in ports and airports, in the streets and public squares, in support of Palestine and its brave people.

We especially appeal to the unions of seafarers and port workers, urging them to refuse to load or unload “Israeli” ships or those bound for Zionist ports, and to halt any form of maritime or commercial cooperation with the tools of war and siege. Your strong hands and awakened consciences are capable of halting the machinery of extermination and stopping the shipments of death sent to Palestine. Show all humanity the power of the struggling working class when it rises united in defense of justice and human values.

From here, we proudly and gratefully salute our comrades, the port workers in Greece, for their principled and courageous stance, and their leading role in boycotting “Israeli” ships and rejecting complicity in war crimes. We also salute the labor unions in Norway, Spain, France, Canada, and elsewhere for their pioneering role in impactful solidarity with our people through the boycott of occupation institutions. We call upon all labor unions around the world to cut ties with the so-called “Histadrut”, the Zionist organization that claims to belong to the working class while participating in the siege of Palestinian workers, justifying the genocide in Gaza, and serving as an integral part of the Israeli occupation apparatus.

Comrades,

What is being carried out today in Gaza is a crime of mass starvation in full view of the world: its aim is to displace us and expel us from our land. This is not only a war of physical extermination; it is a series of crimes that surpass everything committed by Nazism and fascism in Europe. It is carried out with the aim of subjugating us by destroying the very conditions of life and human dignity. Yet the popular working classes and their free unions around the world possess a legacy of history, strength, and courage sufficient to defeat these criminal policies — if they unite their ranks and raise their voice in confrontation with colonialism, Zionism, and the savagery of capitalism.

We promise you:
We will rebuild the universities, schools, institutions, and factories of Gaza again, as we have always done after every American-Zionist war of destruction. And we will continue our steadfastness, no matter how great the hardships and challenges.

Let us turn anger into action, and solidarity into a concrete stance.
Let us break the policy of starvation and raise the banner of labor struggle for justice—
For a free Palestine, from the river to the sea.

The Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement (Masar Badil)
23 July 2025

(Text of the statement from the Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions – Gaza)

The Workers’ Cry Before Death

A cry we raise to speak to the consciences and dignity of our comrades in the unions, to call for mobilization in support of children who cannot find milk or a morsel of bread, for mothers whose breasts have dried up, for patients waiting to die of hunger, for elders who fear dying of hunger, and for workers who can find neither work nor bread.

Our free comrades,
For 22 months, the occupation has carried out the killing of civilians and the destruction of homes—destroying 80% of Gaza’s houses, all of its factories, bulldozing most of its agricultural lands, and closing off most sources of livelihood.

Honorable colleagues,
We think well of you, so roll up your sleeves to break the siege on Gaza. We await from you a human and moral role to save Gaza from a blockade in which the criminal occupation has sealed every window for the entry of food, medicine, and water to its people.

Our union comrades,
We await your role in delivering the cry of the children and workers of Gaza to decision-makers and to the streets. You are the most worthy of carrying this responsibility—so be our support, move the streets, and stop the arms deals that are killing children, women, and workers. Mobilize the sympathizers and supporters to break the siege on Gaza, and deliver your free voice to the decision-makers.

There is no excuse for those who abandon Gaza and its people, or who abandon the workers.

Gaza will remain a witness to those who stood with the cry for humanity and the cry for freedom, and it will remain a symbol for the free people of the world.

We urge workers and labor organizations to contact us; please email workers@masarbadil.org.

Nu-LOTF dropped October 25, 2023, and just today they released another patch, this time adding unique armor as a reward, as well as more mat rewards for PVP while also allowing you to simply disable PVP because a lot of people were complaining about invasions.

A game that has received THIS much love is tough to hate but I still do because they can patch it all they want, the levels are still agonizing to play. Man I WANTED to like it though. (There are multiple bosses that are 8 foot tall women with feet)

Redundant Engagement Counts?

Diagram of redundant and mismatched engagement counts

How would people feel about a future version of Bookface removing the engagement counts from the Action Button? Now that the response info is reduced to an icon and a number the count on the Action Button with the same icon is redundant and makes the UI unnecessarily cluttered.

I know since the beginning of Bookface some people have found the engagement counts on the buttons too "busy" or "distracting" but before I remove them I thought I'd ask how people feel about that?

I don't know if anyone else has noticed it, but sometimes the engagement counts and responses don't agree. I don't know why. The response counts are usually the more accurate ones. Getting rid of the counts on the buttons would eliminate this inconsistency.

Thoughts?

Just tried it on my dev server. Looks like hiding it only works in Frio? It seems the themes have to have {{if $item.legacy_activities}} to support hiding it.

You said the demand for this was very high. Was it an objection to showing the names or showing the totals or both?

I've been working on a theme similar to "Bookface" only based on Vier instead of Frio. One thing that has frustrated me are the engagement counts/lists because the code for them comes into the theme template already having been formatted in PHP, so then I have to use CSS to hide the bits I don't want which gets messy.

It would be so much better if only the DATA were coming into the templates, meaning the total and, I guess optionally, the array of names and links for that response. IMO no HTML formatting should be happening in PHP functions, it should be formatted in the templates. But changing it would require a bunch of edits to core files, which would break all the existing themes.

As far as I can tell the *only* reason it's being formatted in PHP is to handle singular and plural cases of the extraneous verbiage that I don't feel is necessary in the first place (which is why I've hidden all of it in Bookface).

On the Share or Like button, you only see a mouseover that displays the names of the users, but no clickable preview with a link to the user profile. This was seen as a shortcoming. Many users not only want to see who has clicked a button, but also want to jump to the profile.

It was therefore discussed in the project whether a separate view was needed in which the user clicks are displayed and the profiles can be called up. If I remember the discussion correctly, the behaviour should be similar to Mastodon.

Unfortunately, I can't find the issues at the moment.

@Random Penguin
Oh, that's great. I think something like that would fit very well. It connects the separate functions in Friendica and provides real added value. I think that was the goal in the issues and could be realised identically for Frio and Vier.

Please bear in mind that I am quoting the issues from memory, as I unfortunately cannot find them.

github.com/friendica/friendica/issues/13620 is one of a few open issues discussing aspects of this. But the discussion here is much more mature and further along already.

Interesting that thread says there's no way to do it without JavaScript. In the latest Bookface I solved that problem, at least for modern mobile browsers, by adding a :active state which triggers it on tap. This is alongside the :hover state for mouse and :focus and :focus-within which trigger it for keyboard/screenreader.

But changing it would require a bunch of edits to core files, which would break all the existing themes.

Maybe this is something we could make an issue for and see if there's support for it? I don't think other themes besides Vier and Frio are maintained (and Vier is barely maintained, which IMO makes sense given how powerful but also really complex themes are, not just being CSS overrides) so we'd just have to update those two.

Also I think the count mismatch should be reported, as long as other themes show them. I can do that using/referencing your image if that's ok.
About the like count differences I wonder if it's because the line includes all reactions and thus counts that emoji as one as well...?

That would explain the count mismatch on the "likes" since the emoji is shown separately among the Action Buttons. I'd have to double check but I think the count mismatch on the Comments is the one on the Comment button is just comments by other people while the lower one includes your own comments/replies. So in my example there were two of my own replies and three from others. Still this obviously isn't clear, they look like errors.

in reply to Random Penguin

Ah, alright. Completely agree that it's still unclear, and that it should be fixed so one or the other is chosen consistently. I'd be inclined to say that comments including one's own makes a more sensical total for comments.
When the icon is directly on the like button it kinda makes sense it's all likes only. In that case all of the reacts should have individual counters. Otherwise they could be dropped and there could be a total counter only, which perhaps expand to show the individual distribution or something like that.
Like Facebook, as you show above.

The immunity allowed Maxwell to freely answer Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche's questions without fear that her responses could later be used against her, the sources said.
