L’objectif de ce livre est de donner des perspectives concrètes et réalistes pour sortir du carcan néolibéral européen et progresser vers une Europe sociale et écologique. Car, si les marges de manœuvre sont étroites, de véritables leviers existent bel et bien.

« Et bien ce libre échange, l'Union européenne veut l'imposer pour l'électricité et le gaz. C'est-à-dire que l'électricité produite en Croatie puisse traverser les frontières et approvisionner l'Allemagne, que l'électricité française puisse aller en Italie, en Espagne librement et que ce soi les opérateurs du marché qui gèrent ces échanges. Donc c'est un véritable vol puisque tout ça n'a pas été écrit, n'a pas été validé par les États. Ça se fait progressivement de façon larvée. Ce n'est pas un transfert de compétences, c'est une confiscation de compétences par les instances européennes pour libéraliser un secteur qui économiquement est très important et qui stratégiquement est absolument essentiel. Voilà. Donc c'est un exemple parmi d'autres nocivité de l'Union européenne et voilà son caractère antidémocratique qui nie la souveraineté des peuples et des États. Il y a beaucoup d'autres domaines dans lesquels c'est à peu près la même chose. Et c'est une des raisons qui doit pousser les gens à signer cet appel pour un référendum. Donc je vous invite à le faire et à ne pas laisser tomber dans l'oubli cette date du 29 mai 2005 et à reprendre le combat continuer le combat contre l'Union européenne et contre ces orientations ultralibérales et antidémocratiques. »
