in reply to kaia • • •Advanced audio routing is a cool thing — I've been using it in Mac OS X to turn an array of audio interfaces into one giant audio interface, so I could set it as primary one in Ableton Live and use all inputs and outputs — it was adding a tiny lag, but it was bearable and this is still a stop-gap solution for not getting an expensive sound card with more inputs and outputs.
This is also something most people never do in their whole lifetime! So I don't understand why it even became a thing in Linux? Pulseaudio was utter garbage — one of the worst pieces of software ever created, PipeWire is an attempt to fix that, but it still doesn't answer the question why — why does the typical user even need that? To me it seems like a solution looking for a problem, and in the process — creating problems of its own
