I'm glad that people are enraged by the #famine in #Gaza. At the same time, I'm disgusted by the silence on the famine in #Sudan.

Starved by conflict: Malnutrition crisis deepens in Sudan. Relentless conflict, mass displacement, and disease outbreaks are behind soaring #malnutrition rates across Sudan, putting millions of children at risk.

For more than two years, children and their families have been living through a brutal #conflict. Now, on top of mass displacement and ongoing violence, they are facing a devastating #hunger crisis, cut off from the lifesaving nutrition and supplies they so urgently need.

number of children suffering from severe malnutrition is rising at an alarming rate. Between January and May 2025, there was a 46 per cent increase in the number of children treated for severe acute malnutrition (the deadliest form of malnutrition) across Sudan’s five Darfur states, compared to the same period last year.

We are already seeing signs of mass starvation in camps where mothers arrive unable to feed their children and today’s IPC forecast is a grave warning the situation is only going to get worse. Our fears are becoming a reality.

This is the worst hunger crisis is the world right now – the conflict is entering its third year and the IPC have warned the situation is expected to deteriorate dramatically between July and September, with children most at risk. 24.6 million people in Sudan face high levels of acute food insecurity with 8.1 million facing emergency levels.

Famine was detected in 5 areas in El Fasher and the Western Nuba Mountains and these areas are particularly difficult to reach to provide humanitarian aid as the security situation is so severe here. With the impending rainy season due, travel will be further hindered which will also drive-up food insecurity levels in the months ahead.

Children are starving to death from dehydration and malnutrition in Sudan every day. Hundreds of thousands are malnourished. A 10-year-old girl recently told us that for months her only meal has been lentil soup every day and that she dreams of fruit.

Exposing doesn't do shit. Until we see arrests, convictions, and jail time, all you're doing is lifting up one of the innumerable corrupt swamp creatures and saying "See, see!", and then dropping it back in to swim away.

I have some small amount of hope that this might happen under 47 - more than previous administrations anyway - but I'm not going to jump up and cheer every time someone virtue signals by breaking a scandal, only to let it fall off the news cycle 12 hours later.

Lecture achevée il y a quelques jours. Je découvre cet auteur. Je découvre notamment qu'il écrit des romans d'anticipation et semble être connu et reconnu pour cela. À investiguer donc.

Cet ouvrage est tout sauf de l'anticipation, mais une analyse précise des carcans numériques qui nous enferment quasiment tous aujourd'hui, de gré ou de force, dans beaucoup de détails insoupçonnés de nos vies.

La promesse du sous-titre n'est malheureusement pas complètement tenue, ou du moins pas au niveau du lecteur citoyen, à moins qu'il ne s'organise en collectif et puisse peser sur les réglementations françaises et européennes, voire étatsuniennes...

Écrit avant le 20 janvier 2025, il résonne --- raisonne --- de manière encore plus dissonante aujourd'hui.

If you host your own services (either at home or in the cloud) -- especially if you also use #CloudFlare -- one of the easiest, simples, fastest, and effective things you can do is to enable #GeoBlocking for your domain.

What is geoblocking? It's where you only allow traffic to your service from locations that need it.

I'm not talking about a self-hosted fedi instance. I'm talking about things like #NextCloud, #VaultWarden, self-hosted photo galleries, Plex servers, etc.

If you're in the UK, do you really want someone in Belarus or Myanmar being able to access your own private web service?

By enabling geo blocking for your domain you can restrict your services to only be accessible from those geographic regions that you authorize.

Say you're in the UK but you frequently vacation in Spain or Cyprus or Greece. Only enable traffic to your services from the UK, Spain, Cyprus, and Greece.

What you're doing is reducing your exposure to network-based threats and attacks.

Best of all it takes two seconds to setup.
