But rather than dwelling on that, the way the ghosts work to make it feel like they were “thinking” is a really cool example of the exact opposite. It's a series of really simple deterministic rules:
Take a few things happening in parallel in a highly specified way, throw in a little randomness (no more complicated than rolling dice), and we start assigning agency to the ghosts in the game.
This happens because 1) our brains love to anthropomorphize, and 2) we don't perceive the rules immediately.
And that's today's AI in a nutshell… More simple rules, more rolling dice—just massively scaled up!
Now you can do 10,000x more in the same time, so the result is again indistinguishable from magic, and we trick ourselves into assigning agency and even “intelligence” to the outputs.

The type of "AI" that's popular now (i.e. LLMs) is much better at certain tasks than older "regular" programs (natural language processing, because that's what they were developed for). ...

Le repassage c'est vraiment l'activité où toute une génération de femmes a regardé le truc en disant "lol, non" et en faisant un gros doigt aux conjoints et ascendants mpfffGrgneuu qu'elles refusent mais trop génés aux entournures pour oser leur rentrer dans le chou.
la cravate aussi c'est fini. Durant les 12 derniers mois j'ai été de mariage et d'enterrement, dans les deux cas j'étais quasi le seul à en avoir une. Et au boulot ben je dirais que c'est un red flag. Si un métier nécessite d'avoir une cravate c'est que c'est du bullshit.
je persiste à penser que les vêtements plein de plis ça fait pas net donc je repasse les t shirts et pantalons si on compte les mettre au travail ou à l'école. Par contre les t shirts pourris pour les vacances ou le weekend non. Mais il faut pas qu'ils passent une semaine en boule dans le tas de linge à repasser sinon ils devient trop froissés aussi. Leí hace tiempo que un académico marxista italiano se había puesto a investigar el origen de la "cocina tradicional italiana" y había descubierto que buena parte de sus platos eran: a) mucho más recientes de lo que la gente piensa y/o b) su origen no estaba en Italia.
La prensa le había apodado "el hombre más odiado en Italia".
La cosa es que buena parte de lo que todes conocemos como "platos tradicionales italianos" eran en realidad platos estadounidenses. Cuando a finales del siglo XIX se produjo una migración masiva de italianos a EEUU muchos acabaron formando comunidades allí, pero formadas por italianos de todas partes de Italia. Así, cuando se pusieron a cocinar, se mezclaban ingredientes que eran típicos del sur, por ejemplo, con ingredientes típicos del norte, y salían cosas nuevas.
Años después, cuando las tropas aliadas ocuparon Italia, los descendientes italoanericanos volvieron al país e introdujeron estos platos, que pasaron a ser parte de la "cocina tradicional italiana".
Esto también lo detectas clarísimamente en el libro de cocina de referencia de generaciones en Italia: 'la Cuchara de Plata', y que viene de finales de los años 40.
En otros casos resultaba que los platos considerados "tradicionales" eran mucho más recientes; la panna cotta, por ejemplo, no apareció hasta los años 60 del siglo pasado.
Entonces por qué ese interés en presentar esos platos que ni eran tradicionales ni italianos como "cocina tradicional italiana"? Porque la comida es parte de la cultura y haciendo esto se creaba un mito que ayudaba a reforzar el nacionalismo italiano.
Porque, amigues, TODO es política. También la comida.
@litox pasa con tantísimas cosas... una festividad que se celebra durante tres años seguidos ya pasa a ser "tradición" y en cuanto te descuides te van a vender que llevan siglos celebrándola. La construcción de la identidad nacional siempre requiere de grandes dosis de ficción y mucha gente dispuesta a creérsela.
