Das scheint das Wochenende mit musikalischen Entdeckungen für mich zu sein. Heute ist es »Samantha Fish« mit ihrem neuen Blues-Rock-Album »Paper Doll«, das mich unter den Kopfhörern zu fesseln weiß.

"I am now back in the UK, and safely on my way home. After more 25 hours of being stranded in the airport lounge, two police officers finally approached me and told me it was time to leave, before escorting me to a gate and making sure I was boarded on a direct flight home. Thankfully, I got back in one piece with all my luggage. I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has reached out, sent kind messages and to all those who . . ."

Just now, I read this statement from Sophie De Schaepdrijver, professor European History at Pennsylvania State University.

"And to think that in the US people thought "woke" was the big problem. Because woke was canceling! Woke was threatening freedom of speech! Oh dear, the downfall of the West!

But woke doesn't have armed police. Woke never arrested anyone. Woke never made anyone disappear into an ICE detention center."

Since then, I have not been provided with food or water (had to buy it myself), have not been given a bed (had to sleep on chairs), have not been given back my passport or been given access to my bag and finally, no one has spoken to me about sending me home. Deepin is clearly looking more at Windows than macOS nowadays, with the taskbar at the bottom, and both styles you can pick from being basically Windows 10 or Windows 11.

The main menu is alright, with app search, the ability to sort applications by name, or freely by drag and drop in the list of apps, and a frequent and recently installed section.

I quite liked the Quick Actions module at the bottom right of the task bar, it's a very smartphone like interface, but practical.

In terms of personalization, you have the usual suspects, dark and light mode, accent colors, some form of global theme that changes accent colors, wallpapers and icons, or you can just change the icons and cursors individually, and the fonts. It's definitely no KDE or no Cinnamon here, and these theme changes don't apply uniformly to other apps.

Default apps are still in that same ballpark of being basic and simple, but being barely enough for anyone who just needs a computer for office work, email, and web browsing. It's all fine, but it hasn't progressed much since the last time I used Deepin.

Finally, Deepin is still stuck on X11. The betas talked about having experimental Wayland support, they couldn't ship with it in the end, and it's not there yet.

Finally, you have access to cross device sharing your clipboard to another computer, transfering files to other computers, or sharing the mouse cursor, unfortunately, that only works between computers running Deepin, or between Deepin and Windows.

Now, what sets Deepin apart from other distros and desktops, is its integration of AI features. First, is what they call UOS AI, its icon is present by default in the system tray, and it's basically just a gateway for you to have the various AI tools you use inside your OS: it doesn't come with its own model or anything, you need to enter an API key for any of the supported models, like GPT 3.5, GPT 4, and a few others that only have Chinese names that I can't read.

Deepin also includes the ability to build your own personal knowledge assistant, but it depends on the same models you have to configure.

And unfortunately, this is also true for the last feature is the Deepin System Assistant, an AI powered tool that lets you ask questions about how your system works. It's fine to try and simplify access to AI tools by giving users a single interface to let them access various types of assistants, but if you also expect users to actually generate API keys and enter them here, then it means your implementation of AI is not ready for prime time, and so your implementation at the OS level is not that useful, because anyone who knows how to generate a key and use it, and fix the errors, they have a paid account, and thy don't need your watered down interface.

Another thing introduced in Deepin 23 is what they call Linyaps, this is a new packaging format that Deepin created, and they started using that format for some of their own applications. It's another sandboxed format like Snaps or Flatpaks, where you build your app once for each architecture, and you don't need to build it for each distro and each distro's version. They have their own section in the App Store, with a bunch iof apps already, although most of these seem t be chinese apps that have untranslated names.

There are federal and state laws against impersonating a law-enforcement officer already. If these people don't have a valid warrant card, have fake badges, are wearing fake uniforms, and asserting that they are federal officers, there's a pretty good chance that they're in violation.

The really fun thing will be when people start placing them under citizens' arrest and calling real law enforcement.

I'd like to humbly remind folks that, even though people like Tucker Carlson or Nick fucking Fuentes can sometimes come to conclusions that are more or less in line with what decent, humane people might also think, that... doesn't actually mean much. They're still sociopaths, and they think in terms of their own power and their own exclusive self-interest. And fascists aren't as universally dumb as people seem to want to believe they are.

If reasonably intelligent sociopaths like Carlson or Fuentes now and then say things that decent people find agreeable, it's because they've seen some benefit to themselves in announcing these brilliant insights to the world. They're gigantic opportunists who still harbor fascist beliefs at heart, and they benefit from people outside their usual audience talking them up.

So maybe let's lay off of putting these guys' names out there like they're the voice of reason now or something? Because they're not the voice of reason. They're actual fascists. Let's just not promote fascists.

We are looking for an investor who can loan our holding company 237,000 US dollars.

With this money, we will open a farm in Baku, Azerbaijan to produce animal-based food.

We will also make our own animal feed, so our products will be healthier, better quality, and cheaper.

Because we sell quality products for less and have strong advertising, we will sell more worldwide and make big profits.

Why Azerbaijan? Because animal farming makes a lot of money there, but few people do it. That’s why we will earn more by starting in Azerbaijan.

Additionally, by producing our own animal feed, we will be able to sell healthier, higher quality animal products at a lower price.

Since we can sell quality products cheaply and thanks to our strong advertising network, we will be able to sell more internationally and make huge profits.

The reason for establishing the business in Azerbaijan is that animal husbandry is a very profitable business in Azerbaijan, but since there are very few people doing animal husbandry, establishing the farm in Azerbaijan will provide us with more income.

Your profit:

You will lend 237,000 US dollars to our holding company and when 22.03.2026 comes, you will receive your money back as 953,000 US dollars.

Your earnings will be great. When 22.03.2026 comes, you will get your money back as 953.00 US dollars.

That's a blatant #lie and bullshit #propaganda, if you are on #welfare in some countries like #Australia for example and you do #price checks on #vegetarian/ #vegan #food you will find that there is a massive budget difference and you literally have to go dumpster diving for your vegan/vegetarian #foods if on welfare budgets, the #discrimination at the #supermarkets for vegan food #prices is outrageous.

It does depend on what diet you choose. As plant base food is the flavour of the month at the moment, there are a lot of "vegan" products that are highly processed and not very healthy.

Learning to eat vegan well without a lot of processed foods takes some time. I am vegetarian but pretty much vegan (I have eggs atm, but not always, and am dairy-free except for milk in my coffee) and don't spend half as much per person as my non-vegan friends. I minimise processed food, preserve a lot of fruit and vegetables, and have a wealth of lentil, dried beans, tofu and vegetable recipes.

Not sure if you are trying to be vegan - it is a great choice and best wishes for finding the diet that suits you ❤️

BTW, shop in Indian, Middle Eastern and Asian grocery shops - you'll find lots of produce at a fraction of the costs than supermarkets - lentils, beans, spices, vegetables etc.

Plastic with a past: traceable pots made from reclaimed fishing nets

A Scottish startup wants to turn the tide on ghost gear by crafting striking geometric plant pots from plastic recovered from discarded fishing nets.

The founders of POTR reckon their ‘ocean pots’ are the world’s first planters made from traceable marine plastic. Each carries a scannable QR code linking to data that reveals when and where the ghost net was recovered.

“Traceability makes it real for people,” said POTR founder Andrew Flynn, a lecturer at The Glasgow School of Art. “The more transparent the journey, the more it sparks conversations and makes people realise they can be part of the solution.”

The Glasgow-based company has reeled in a UK supply chain, with fishing nets recovered and shredded by Cornish marine waste specialists, Waterhaul. Reclaimed plastic is pelletised, pressed into sheets and finally die cut in Edinburgh.

One study by Defra found that the fishing and aquaculture industry in Scotland and England generates around 6,000 tonnes of plastic waste a year, much of it ending up adrift in our seas, or choking shorelines.

Every tonne of recovered plastic yields 5,000 ocean pots, and POTR is donating 4 per cent of profits to cleanup efforts. The pots’ origami-inspired design means they can be flatpacked for shipping, slashing transport costs by 100 times, say the team.
