📷 100,000 people marched across the Sydney Harbour Bridge to protest against the genocide in Gaza. The crowd size exceeded expectations and demonstrated strong support by the people of Australia for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the genocide.

100,000 was NSW police estimate (a group who have opposed this march and have consistently messaged against the 80+ near-weekly previous marches as well; the police and/or NSW government have fought the organisers in court on three or four occasions and lost every time thus far).

Organisers say that after reviewing aerial footage, they estimate the number present today was between 200,000-300,000.

Police confirmed the following: as the front of the march arrived at Milsons Point station, there were still thousands of marchers yet to get past Wynyard station (south of where the march officially began). If it wasn't the biggest political single rally in Australian history, it was a close second (the biggest is widely acknowledged to be the 2003 Stop the War rally, at around 200k in Sydney).

George Washington, lui-même, exigeait qu’on l’appelât : « Sa
Grandeur le Président des Etats-Unis. » Christophe Colomb

"What was Israel supposed to do after October 7? Same thing they should have done before October 7: dismantle the apartheid state, give everyone equal rights, pay massive reparations, and right all the wrongs of the past. October 7 was a response to the tyranny and abuse of Israel; the correct thing to do when things finally came to a head with the Hamas attack would have been to remove all the tyranny and abuse which gave rise to it.

That’s what Israel should have done. Of course Israel was never going to do this, for the same reason they spent decade after decade murdering, displacing and oppressing Palestinians since Israel was created. Israel would never allow justice and equality after October 7 for the same reason Israel would never allow justice and equality before October 7: because Israel has always been a settler-colonialist project that can only be sustained by nonstop violence and tyranny and theft and abuse and lies and breathtaking immorality."

Speaking with a friends' son & his girlfriend (in their mid-20s) yesterday evening I was struck by how stridently they feel their future has been betrayed by older generations (of course, including his parents & me) & that the country is essentially a gerontocracy run for the benefit of the over 50s.

They both have signed up to the Corbyn/Sultana party & hope that this will change UK politics to reflect their views, interests & needs.

Are we about to see a political youth quake?

Because I agree but refuse to boost toots with shortened URLs (aka Link Detours) in them. And adding hashtags is a good idea for these kinds of toots.

Imagine you have a friend. Let’s call him Rick Reasonable. Now imagine you have an enemy. Let’s call your enemy Bart B. Oilingwater. Bart is a real piece of crap. Whenever he sees you, he throws boiling water at you.www.the-reframe.com/boiling-water/

The next day, you confront Rick about this and he shrugs. “Man, I hate that bastard Bart,” he says, “but you have to hear both sides.” Yes, you say. That Bart, he sure does suck, all right. But how are we feeling about Rick? www.the-reframe.com/boiling-water/

11,000-year-old settlement in Canada could rewrite history of Indigenous civilizations in North America

"The newly uncovered village site of Âsowanânihk, which means "a place to cross" in the Cree language, is one of the oldest archaeological sites found on the continent and suggests that an organized society existed in central Canada far earlier than experts previously thought."

"This discovery is a powerful reminder that our ancestors were here, building, thriving, and shaping the land long before history books acknowledged us," said Chief Christine Longjohn. "For too long, our voices have been silenced, but this site speaks for us, proving that our roots run deep and unbroken. It carries the footsteps of our ancestors, their struggles, their triumphs, and their wisdom. Every stone, every artifact is a testament to their strength. We are not just reclaiming history—we are reclaiming our rightful place in it."
