Morning thoughts

Small miracles, I’m not the guy to believe in miracles. But sometimes you meet people in your life who get you, and see you for you. In such a competitive arena as life it’s really nice to have someone who cheers you on even when you give up, but it’s because they see potential in you that you don’t see. Which in turn want to find, that you keep fighting anyways.

That fact that people like that exist at all in your lifetime is something worth nurturing and growing.

Momo is old and grumpy and doesn’t eat some days and has IBD and is on prednisone although when he doesn’t eat he doesn’t get his prednisone either as I mix it into his food. He almost died this spring;I worried he was going to die after Lola died; for a little while I thought his enmity with George the kitten gave him a new lease on life, but now I think he’s dying anyway. He has endured many vet visits and hated every one, his last scan suggested he could have a number of problems so we just treated for IBD as it was the least invasive. His time for more vet visits and scans and invasive procedures is over. I try to minimize his stress but I still have to vacuum the floors sometimes, for example, and this last weekend I traveled for the first time all year, so he had to endure a cat sitter. Of course he has to endure George too which is quite the insult. I’m doing my best for this old man, and crying most days, and trying to believe it’s not my fault, and to just keep loving him until I can discern his suffering exceeds his dignity.

People probably saw the report recently about people in China doing support on US Government systems, unknown to the USG.

As I said at the time to @briankrebs - don’t worry, there’s plenty of skeletons in that closet. Here’s another: slashdot.org/story/445166

To be super clear about this one, I have no problems with people in China working on things. Some of my best colleagues in Microsoft Security were in Beijing. Nationalist saber rattling is dumb.

What happened(happening) at Microsoft is they’d pretend to the USG things weren’t happening, or just didn’t disclose it.

Buying Entra DLP? It’s teams in China. Teams building ML models for your endpoint tools? China. Product support? China. Lots of security and AI? China. They have the best people.

The VP of MS, Brad Smith, gives it Johnny Big Balls to US Congress about how MS stands up to China etc, but the reality is the position is perhaps best described by Microsoft’s own website. news.microsoft.com/about-micro…

If you work at MS, browse http://greymatter (the vulnerability tracking database for in flight vulns) and you can see the teams in China fixing the vulns in SharePoint Online and such.

Another one is http://icms - the incident management system.

My take is just own it. Anybody can pull all the MS cybersecurity roles on MS career website, they’re well archived (and frankly infostealers are full of MS internal session tokens). It would maybe help if the world wasn’t a military bro fantasy.

Yeah, but the less trapped into centralised systems even SOME people are the more hope people in general can have because they perceive that there is a way out of the system.

I think just having people know they can try to go off-grid is incredibly empowering.

Individuals can succumb to suicide when they can no longer see any choices and I believe society also can be trapped by having all choice removed.

I went to this Swedish furniture store today for the first time in ages. What can I say, no thanks. It looked really run-down and neglected inside. There was only one till open for "normal" payers, then two tills to scan yourself and then two where you have to pay with your chip in your arse.
While I was standing in the queue, the announcement came on: you can save yourself waiting time if you download the dingsbims app and pay with your chip in your arse. No thanks.
I'd rather build my own furniture now.
