Arriving at Mulhouse (but NOT at Basel) they warn you to not open the doors before the train stops. But you can’t open the doors as they’re centrally locked. All of this is just SNCF covering itself, legally. It’s basically “if you push the button too soon it’s you liable not us”
Ok, I checked. In TGV Lyria anyway they’ve got no problem with you locking your bag to a luggage rack (note this is one SBB Lyria train manager’s opinion - don’t consider it a hard rule!)
And his SNCF counterpart was excellent and friendly and acknowledged it is a design problem (racks badly placed)
Meanwhile about the #CrossBorderRail train into Vatican City: I emailed the museum who offered the train as part of a tour, asking if the suspension was temporary or permanent. The answer… doesn’t answer! 🤷♂️
I was surprised about that a few weeks ago when I wanted to get a reservation for the TGV to Lille. I really had to visit the next boutique to get a reservation. Funniest thing was that the self-booking booths in the boutiques have the same booking system, which makes this even more ridiculous
Before trainwide door locking was a thing (because there was no cable connecting the carriages), there was a thing called "wagenautarke Türsicherung", which locks the carriage doors when it is moving faster than 5km/h.
I do not know the internal SNCF procedures but I would guess that this maybe is a historical remnant because there are still carriages with this technique (or the trainwide locking is broken).

There used to run some trains from there to the Papal gardens, but since the beginning of this year this is gone. Maybe forever. Deo volente (how ironic) it will return so us mortals can go on a pilgrimage for this international railway line.
Good that this train gets a top score; it's a 10 hour journey. The terrain should be interesting, Maybe a few piccies? Fingers crossed for a successful connection.
