Happy Black August for all those who celebrate!

We're starting things off this month with the video essay 'On the Black Leadership and Other White Myths' by the We Still Outside Collective, released during the height of the George Floyd uprising in 2020.

#goodcomment responding to my mention of the estimated 8 million children a year we lose to trafficking (to 'philes & 'vores) putting the minuscule numbers of measles infections.

JayCee_11 @digitteknohippie yeah, did you see the “Family Preparedness Plan Act of 2025” in California? Basically legalizes kidnapping and giving kidnapped kids to traffickers

#FamilyPreparednessPlan >:-S
are we ready to end this whole crooked monstrous show yet?
Or did you take too many shots of aluminium to be able to care any more?

Brought my bike back from the shop after a week, biked almost halfway across this city larger than Manhattan, super winded because I'm immensely out of shape, went to put my bike away in the shed, only to discover there's now a hornet's nest directly under the door. Got swarmed halfway through putting it away, so the bike is just sitting there in an open shed door. Any advice on getting it all the way in before getting stung again? I personally know people who would absolutely wade through a fuckton of hornets just to grab someone's bike, but it'd be an ethical breach to ask them to help me.

There’s a very good reason Scotland did not privatise water 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

“Since water was sold off to private hands in England and Wales in 1989, companies have racked up at least £64 billion in debt, paid at least £78 billion in dividends to shareholders, and chronically under-invested in vital infrastructure. The results are toxic—literally. Raw sewage is regularly discharged into rivers and seas.”

@MSP_SMIMSA I find your explanation real optimistic. You see, I kinda blame it on fuckin' gayness of our side of the barricade. I mean, shit! We should be totally able to crush Russia. It would only take a fuckin' pair and commitment. Not that I believe we should do that, but since we apparently decided to fight them.....
Anyways, I'm pretty sure that's not how one enters Valhalla

About fin:

Written by Digit, with a lot of "help" from Claude Sonnet 4 LLM, with a lot of hand-holding, over 35 sub versions from 0.000 to 0.035 to get to proof of concept initial feature completeness without bugs, to version bump to 1.000.

All started on a whim, realising fish is capable of this, and, knowing I'm slow to take to elisp or lua for extending emacs and nvim, while fish is the language I know best... and it's a nice idea that my text editor is written and extensible in the same language as my shell.

#FOSS #FreeSoftware #GNUGPL3
#fish #fishshell #texteditor

PS, I wanted to call it fisher, but there's a plugin manager for fish called fisher already. So... after a few other candidate names (... would have so loved to have my first preference, "fi", but that's for closing if statements in bash.), decided almost instantly on "fin" as soon as it was seen.

in reply to Digit

shall hafta tend to the next issue discovered, it does not handle files bigger than the view well... does not scroll properly. and add the next feature, page up / page down, soon.

the initial rudimentary testing only happened on small files, and thus i hadnt noticed that scroll fail on files larger than the view issue, so the moment it worked within the range tested, it got its first release, apparently a sufficient working state for a feature-complete minimal proof of concept... but nope... that's not an acceptable minimal useable state for the code's capabilities to be in.
