This former librarian and civil rights activist started recording TV intermittently in the mid-1970s. But when the Iranian Hostage Crisis erupted on November 4, 1979, she hit record and never stopped—capturing over 33 years of 24/7 coverage across 71,000 VHS tapes.
Every single day for three and a half decades, Marion ran up to eight VCRs simultaneously. News programs, sitcoms, commercials, breaking news coverage—everything that flickered across American television screens.
Her family thought she was obsessed. Neighbors called it hoarding. But Marion saw what was coming.
She watched TV networks erase old shows to save money and space. She witnessed how stories changed when they were retold years later. Without permanent records, truth becomes whatever the loudest voice claims it to be.
As someone who'd fought for civil rights and worked as a librarian, Marion believed information should belong to everyone—not just those with power and money.
So she turned her Philadelphia home into a fortress of truth. Tapes stacked floor to ceiling. Multiple properties filled with archives. Her son Michael rushing home from dinner to swap out cassettes because "Mom's recorders couldn't miss a minute."

@piggo @pony hopefully it won't be LLMs / GenAI. Hopefully it will be simple image recognition. Ideally in an area where there aren't supposed to be any civilians, but we know that doesn't always happen...
@cjd @pony @piggo No it sometimes does happen. Especially in the area close to the frontline, it's in the interest of the defenders to not have any civilians distracting them. So they tend to evacuate them.
For programmers, the worst kind of bug is the Heisenbug. Bugs that are manifest only intermittently.
If a bug is deterministic and reproducible, you can often work around it. Programs that do the right thing in a specific set of circumstances and the wrong thing in others are still often useful. We know how to deal with those.
Programs that produce the wrong output sometimes, when a different run with the same input gives the right answer, are the least useful.
Anyway, I think I had a point about LLMs I was going to make.

Yes I would like to see that PR merged as well. I mostly agree with Hypolite in that discussion, but getting it merged in any state is better than it sitting still for more months/years IMO. The work has already been done, and it's Michael's PR so I can't really do much there.

Es meldet sich niemand, laut Bandansage 1 Betriebsferien bis zum 15.08.2025 und der Verweis auf eine Notfallnummer endet in einer weiteren Bandansage, dass man eine Nachricht hinterlassen kann.
Gelsenwasser hatte uns gestern über die Einstellung der Trinkwasserversorgung informiert. Die letzte Frist, die dem neuen Vermieter gesetzt wurde, läuft am 18.08.2025 ab. Laut Gelsenwasser wird nach Ablauf dieser Frist sehr vermutlich recht schnell das Wasser abgedreht.
