Our nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine never released any radioactive substance into the air or water. The primary system (the reactor itself, the primary coolant piping, and the main coolant pumps) was hermetically sealed, with welds. Primary coolant (pressurized water) flowed through pipes in the steam generator, boiling feed water to supply steam to the main engines and turbine generators.
I find this meme a bit hard to believe.
On the other hand, our submarine had no sewage treatment of any kind. When we were at sea, our shit and piss went into the North Atlantic.
The engine room bilges were pumped into a Waste Oil Collecting Tank (WOCT), and not into the ocean. The main engines and turbine generators were steam turbines. They leaked a small amount of lube oil into the engine room bilge. For obvious reasons, this oil could not be pumped into the ocean. It floated into the top of the WOCT, which was only rarely pumped out, and then only from the bottom.
A couple of decades back my wife and I had a most conspiratorial looking lunch with a Russian friend. We had worked together on a LEO satellite based networking system - much like Starlink.
