incredibly strong.

Listening to the methods that Edward Bernays employed on the masses always blows my mind.

No doubt you know this one, but for others who haven't heard it, it's a great listen & distillation of Bernays propaganda methods that started as advertising to poison the minds & bodies of people, & then transitioned to fomenting world wars.

In the early morning of April 19, 1928, the air around Benton, Illinois, hung heavy—not with mist, but with morbid anticipation. Charles Birger, bootlegger, showman, and self-proclaimed “Gangster King” of Southern Illinois, was about to meet the gallows.

But if anyone expected Birger to crumble under the weight of his crimes, they were sorely mistaken. True to his flair for drama, he greeted his final hour with an eerie calm, even flashing a smile as he exchanged words with prison officials. It was as though he were the host of his own grim farewell, playing the part of the charismatic outlaw to the very end.

Birger wasn’t just a petty criminal—he was a Prohibition-era warlord, locked in a brutal battle for control of the southern Illinois bootlegging empire.

His rival, Joe Adams, the mayor of West City, stood in his way. In 1927, Adams was gunned down, allegedly on Birger’s orders. That murder would be Birger’s undoing. Despite his swagger and deep network of loyal men, the law finally caught up with him. His trial was a spectacle, his conviction swift, and his death sentence unavoidable. And yet, as the noose was adjusted, Birger joked with the guards, his grin unsettling in its ease.

With a noose around his neck, Charles Birger became the last man to be publicly hanged in Illinois. The execution drew a crowd, curious to witness the final act of a man who had turned violence into theater.

Even in death, Birger remained defiant, refusing blindfolds and standing upright with the gallows’ shadow draped across him. The smile never quite left his face.

And as the trapdoor dropped, the legend of the laughing gangster took root—an unsettling reminder that in the lawless pockets of American history, even killers could command a stage.

Anyone who has worked in a large company or public committee knows "group think" always goes nowhere. The decisions made result in a lot of trouble with no reward.

People who prefer group working teams are those who can not evaluate "risk vs reward" nor "cause and effect" for themselves and hide behind the group's decisions. People who promote group think are talkers not doers.

Rise of the Ronin. Team Ninja made a sandbox game set in the "foreigners are entering Japan" era. It's good fun but optimized pretty shit on PC. It's very much "a sandbox game but good" and with slightly less than Nioh quality combat.

I can get it to run at 60 FPS if I let it do upscaling so it's probably "As good as it's going to get" considering they haven't patched it in months. It is probably the sort of game you ought to pirate or test with a refund window, but you don't even get to the open world without clearing the first chapter so if you wanted to do Steam's 2 hour refund you'd want to speedplay the prologue to get to the actual meat of the game.

I am slowly coming around to the idea that continuous passive resistance and legal peaceful protest isn't actually worth much at all.

Radicalization is a direct response to continuously deteriorating circumstances and the clock running out. Most acts of terrorism are born out of hopelessness and these actions and the constant eroding of hope is how fascists obtain their police state.

legal peaceful protest does little to a state or system of management imposing laws against their people which are immoral and unjust tbh

nothing significant in life has ever been achieved through entirely peaceful means, it just... isn't something that works long term... because sometimes you have to actually anger the people in power for things to improve, and doing that necessarily involves more than passive peaceful resistance to inhuman and terrible conditions

We are very much in for it the next few years. They are pushing for a great war and all the state power that comes with wartime. I am really trying to cling on to EU values when they seem so far away from me right now, I dont support any of this shit. We are being Americanized.

I consider the current EU completely hostile and in direct opposition to its supposed values. They have become the enemy of the people. The drastic veering towards militarism and surveillance aren't values I share.

Imagine a world in which you can lose your job for calling someone by their chosen name. Welcome to today's world of teaching. In Florida, you can be fired for calling your students by their chosen name without parental consent. That's what happened to Melissa Calhoun.

Her district's superintendent said that parental input can’t be ignored. But what if the parents are just plain wrong?

No matter. SCOTUS gave a ruling earlier this year that essentially made parental input is the ONLY thing that matters. Parents across the nation can now exempt their child from any and all curriculum that "goes against their religious beliefs." This would allow parents to exempt their kids from any of the standards, including evolution, in biology, or the Civil Rights movement, in U.S. history.

From the teachers' and schools' perspective, this completely throws the concept of teaching standards out the window. It makes it pointless for teachers to plan curriculum in advance since they wouldn't know until the last minute which students, if any, would be allowed to learn it. And it would significantly increase teachers' workload since they must create alternative curriculum for students who are exempted.

En Ohio, los vecinos pagan 15 euros más mensualmente para este sector. Y para 2030 se estima que subirán un 8% para todo el país, y un 25% para lugares de alta concentración de centros de datos como Virgina.

I am still not over the situation when someone asked for my “gmail”, I gave them my email address and they were like “No, your gmail!” And tried to explain to me that they only could send messages to Gmail accounts and they do not have an email.

We really need to teach more computer literacy. It was not their fault, they just did not know that Gmail IS email.

By the way, one of my cutomers knew this, but her disability kept her from being able to reach it. Most people would give that a "That sucks". I offered to reroute her entire set up to put the router at wheelchair height, and showed her pulling the router side of the power cable, instead of the plug side, accomplished the same result.
She was very greatful.
"No biggie. I'm just not an ablist asshat."

Fuck her cable internet intaller!
