I propose replacing calories with watt-hours.
- Almost same value (1 kilocalorie / Calorie is ~1.1 watt-hours)
- more intuitive for people who use electricity
- never the confusion between calories (science), Calories (food, which is technically kilocalories), kilocalories, and 'kilo Calories' (which is technically megacalories)
- you get to feel more like a robot with your 2.5kwh power consumption a day which may feel like validation to some creatures on this fediverse
- become powered by cake

TL;DR: I WILL RETURN TO STREAMING BY THE END OF THE YEAR IF POSSIBLE.
My streaming was slowing down because of health issues caused by high stress that nearly killed me. After leaving the mountains and moving in with family I had to stop streaming because it was causing problems since they disagreed with my views.
I am currently working to get a place of my own in my hometown and start making a living working fulltime and streaming regularly again. I have plenty of stories to share from the craziness that has happened over the time I was gone and want to share that all with all of you.
Streaming has been incredibly fun and rewarding and has allowed me to meet a lot of people I'm proud to call friend. Both them and the chat have helped me through the toughest time of my life, and I sincerely say thank you and appreciate that from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you for all your support and everything you've helped me to accomplish.
I hope to start making you all laugh again soon.

Have Dutch police arrested Israelis for war crimes?
Several posts on social media allege that Dutch police have arrested an Israeli soldier and a major general. However, in both cases, the pictures show the arrest of other people in different countries.Lauren Walker (Euronews.com)

Spanish NGO @civio recent investigation reveals the case of #QuantusSkin, an AI system for early detection of skin cancer. The Basque Health Service, Osakidetza, plans to roll it out in 2025, promising faster diagnoses.
But the reality is alarming: Quantus Skin misses nearly 1 in 3 melanoma cases, and was trained almost entirely on images of white patients. For people with darker skin, that means even less accuracy, delayed treatment, and a higher risk of deadly outcomes.
Read the full story here: civio.es/sanidad/2025/07/03/mo…
Would you agree that #ArtificialIntelligence should not discriminate? The case of #QuantusSkin shows that it can be deadly when systems fail to work for all people. To prevent this from happening, we need better education, more research, and clear rules for the use of algorithms.

Today in Labor History August 19, 1909: The first edition of the IWW’s The Little Red Songbook was published in Spokane, WA. The book’s subtitle is “Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent.” Between 1909 and 1995, the Wobblies printed 36 editions. The songbook always includes songs by Joe Hill, Ralph Chaplin, T-Bone Slim, and Haywire Mac. Most editions contained many of the best-known labor songs, like "The Internationale," "The Preacher and the Slave," and "Solidarity Forever." Haywire Mac, composer of the “Big Rock Candy Mountain” and “Hallelujah I’m a Bum,” was one of the original members of the IWW band, in Spokane, in 1907. Mac later participated in the anarchist Magonista Revolution in Baja California, helping to capture and occupy Tijuana. He eventually settled down in San Francisco, where he hosted working-class radio and television programs.

in reply to Anthropy • • •A Snickers is about 570Wh, which is like eating a very sizable ebike battery's entire charge in one go.
A Big Mac slightly tops that with about 650Wh. A slice of pizza is about half that with 340Wh.
Meanwhile, fruits like apples/bananas are in the ~100-130 watt-hour oversized twice laptop battery ballpark, and a cup of greek yogurt is about the same, so a big cup of fruit-filled yogurt is still less calories than a big mac or snickers!
A full english breakfast can be over 1kWh! Quickcharge ⚡⚡

As much as you're right, it's also less intuitive in daily life. Knowing an egg or slice of bread is about 80-90Wh means I can go 'omg a big laptop battery worth power', 324kJoules is very arbitrary there if you don't use it much.
This is also a half-joking post, like, I'm not going to argue to replace anything currently used in science because as far as I can tell most sane scientists use the correct SI units for research papers

Or I could convert the EV efficiency to Cheeseburger/100km or miles/Cheeseburger (which doesn't feel more wierd then the other imperial units).

1 Wh = 3600 Joule (1 joule = 1 watt-second).
Though for some reason ingredients lists on food I buy seem do have gone back to using kcal, which I've never learned to convert.

I'd rather redefine the Celcius scale TBH, the phase changes of water at atmospheric pressure have always seemed too arbitrary for my liking anyway.

- comparable what goes into the car and gets consumed for heating
- comparable between electric and nonelectric cars
- comparable *to yourself* when combined with your proposal
Of course, we should also stop needing fossil fuels, but this is another story. Which, I think, could be accelerated if it would become clear what we're doing.
