A fascism preparedness plan should look something like:
1. Vote blue up and down the ballot, and convince others to do so too. The best-case is preempting fascism from fully taking hold, and that means electing the viable opposition party regardless of how flawed you find them.
2. Recognize that point 1 is very likely insufficient. To my knowledge, there has never been the case of voting out authoritarians once they reach the stage of concentration camps and military in the streets.
3. Plan for the worst. Assume that in four years Trump (or successor) is in office and the legislature and courts are impotent. Do you escape? Resist? Revolt? What do you need to make that effective? Now is the time to get them in place. Before it's too late.
We may be passed the point of no return. Judges and opposition leaders are being arrested for resisting unconstitutional policies. The media and courts are bought by billionaires. The military is patrolling the streets of the capitol.
We are past the point of return. The billionaires who have long sought the goal, have seized control of Americaโs institutions and are dismantling or repurposing them to suit their needs
The most important thing is to communicate this point and that nobody is coming to save us. Not the court, not the law. We are going to have to do it.

@SharonCrockett @mensrea @GhostOnTheHalfShell One other difference -- how many of these fascist regimes successfully transferred power? Hitler and Mussolini both (arguably) outlived their regimes. Spain started restoring democracy days after Franco's death. The average is 30 years because these people all took power in their 40s. Trump is nearly 80. The man is certainly not going to live another 30 years. We will have an opportunity for change far sooner. Be ready for it.

And yeah I think malleability is a big part of it too. Trump promises everything to everyone because he doesn't really give a shit about the result as long as he gets paid. Anyone with an actual ideology or purpose is going to have too many enemies, even within the GOP.
[Warning; Iโm a non-United-Statesian making comments as an outsider.] Thereโs probably a few steps before Step 1, but it seems too late for the United States: improve the democratic processes, e.g. reduce gerrymandering, remove first-post-the-post voting, get rid of that weird electoral college system. I donโt advocate violent revolution but is it even possible to stop authoritarianism by voting, when the voting happens within a system that isnโt very democratic?
