Yes, there are some amazing and excellent people at Harvard ā€” and some utter dingbats, as anywhere else ā€” but whatever actual excellence Harvard offers in education or research is secondary. Harvardā€™s business model is raking in ungodly amounts of money selling that name to the offspring of the ultra-wealthy, however deserving or undeserving, and then investing it.

(Harvard does to its credit use a portion of that money to subsidize access for the highly deserving and underprivileged. Iā€™ve seen the ā€œtuition paidā€ graph for Harvard, and itā€™s very roughly ~20% pay nothing and ~40% pay full freight and their family has more money than everyone youā€™ve every known combined.)

Iā€™ve heard Harvard described as a massive investment company with a small education wing, and the desire to control risk in such a situation is overwhelming. Making a deal with Stupid Darth Vader looks ridiculous if you think Harvardā€™s purpose is the advancement of human thought ā€” but if youā€™re an investment manager treading water through the rise of authoritarianism, well, yeah, maybe you go along to get along and kiss the authoritarianā€™s ass.

i listened to my dee ayy pee after ordering the jay pee version and i'm satisfied with the volume and the sound after playing around with the settings :senkohm:

I turned off direct source and played around with the EQ then soyny's clearaudio+.
I don't know if soyny makes the defaults sound bad to make their stuff sound good or if i forgot how my IEMs sound since i generally use my speakers unless i'm running

i think that if your social space is going to attempt and have a "no politics" rule that rule must be enforced by a council which contains at least one gay person, one trans person, one black person, one woman, one member of each major religion (and one nonreligious person of course), etc

because otherwise that rule is just going to turn into "no complaining about bigotry"

My dad got a citation from the police at work for interfering with a communication device because a foreigner that couldn't speak English stuck his phone in his face and he proceeded to smack the phone out of the guys hand.

So the beaner called the cops because it cracked the screen on his phone.

From the sound of it my dad isn't going to pay the ticket and probably fight it to trial
