im not a privacy zealot by any means, but i agree wholeheartedly with this message. in russia, a lot of online services identify users by their phone number, and the only way to get a phone number legally is to provide ID to your cell phone carrier. this means that, no matter what service you're using, you can be tracked across them, since your phone number is linked to your irl identity. ordinarily this would simply be a data privacy nightmare, but with russia's world-leading corruption, there is a whole black market for user data lookup.
the term of art is "пробив" (lit. "punch in", like punching in someone's credentials into a database to look them up). what this means is that there is a whole ecosystem of compromised employees at cell carriers, banks, and every single institution from government (eg gosuslugi, the federal govt's digital services platform, that's a whole different can of worms) to private (eg yandex). you can pay an incredibly trivial sum to these people and get the full biographical information about a person. just having a phone number is enough to get the full passport data (name, number, etc), current mailing/billing/registration address, call/text log for the last 90 days, and a whole bunch of personal information for the grand total of... 5000 rub (about 60 bucks). at least that's what the price was in 2018 when i looked up the info of a cocksucker that scammed me on avito (russian ebay).
and this is just the information on file at a cell carrier, available to anyone dumb enough to download tor and transfer a few usdt to a random vendor on a black market. more knowledgeable individuals, as well as the intelligence services, have the ability to find out ANYTHING and EVERYTHING about you in less than 30 minutes. your phone number is connected to your social media (vk), taxi and food delivery app (yandex), your email (mail.ru), etc etc. for the price of an american IT specialist's single paycheck, you (yes, you!) can purchase enough data from these compromised employees to know anything you did and didn't want to know about a person. i don't think i need to explain why this is bad. we simply understand on an instinctual level that this level of power should not be wielded over us.

Not only that but there's plenty of OSINT sites that let you use someone's email or phone number and you can find any account from e-mail addresses, etc. Back in the day you had to go off bread crumbs and 10 year old tweets, now you can find info from a single e-mail address.
I think the most clever one I saw was when someone literally would try to login with Microsoft accounts and have it do "phone verification calls" and these streamers would hold their mics to the phone/had it loud as shit to blast the verification code over the stream.
