GOP Demand Halts Alleged Senate Bipartisan Border Talks

Bipartisan Senate talks on border enforcement reached an impasse late last week in part because of a GOP demand to grant the executive branch sweeping powers to restrict immigration.

Senate Republicans were seeking to provide the president new authority to shut down the asylum system at will by refusing to any hear claims from individuals seeking refuge in the U.S., per two Democratic aides close to the negotiations.

Gaetz was heard to murmur, "So, I guess eating would-be immigrants is out of the question, then!" /s

Senator Mushahid Hussain: Two visions, two destinies socialistchina.org/2023/12/04/…

Biden Admin Announces New Rules Targeting Oil, Gas Industries Amid Projected Energy Price Increases

I think something people, even healthcare providers, simply do not allow for, is that to be chronically ill/clinically vulnerable right now is an overwhelming amount of stress. If you encounter one of us and we're having a bad day, it's probably because we're afraid of being *permanently disabled* because *you're not wearing a mask* because *you don't care if we get sicker*. If I seem snippy, it's because I *have to be there* even though you've coughed 4 times and cleared your throat 9 times.

Water Bottle Cults

"The boss" had me look for a large plastic water bottle as a gift for a family member. As per usual, I did a web search. Who knew that there was such variety of plastic water bottles? They differ by:

  • Size: 16-128+ (4L) oz.
  • Shape: More variety than you would ever imagine.
  • Water delivery mechanism: integrated plastic straw, gravity nipple, or either
  • Color/pattern
  • Volume metric, or not, along the side of the bottle, including some with time points given and motivational icons at each volume tick
  • Leakproofness
  • Carrying implementation: shoulder strap, waist belt, top handle
  • Drinking handles for the larger sizes
  • Accompanying cleaning implements offered: bottle brush, straw brush
  • Alleged plastic product health safety
  • Motif

By far, motif was the most bizarre. There were various lifestyle choices here including:

  • Military/Macho: Khaki, Camo, Canteen waist belt
  • Valley Girl Be Thee: Pink, Fuchsia, and cutesy-wootsy Japanese-anime-meets-Walt-Disney patterns
  • Water Is My Life: carry bag with room for keys, cell-phone, wallet (a Coleman lantern, and propane stove? 😉)

On Amazon, some of these motifs came with multiple videos to reinforce the implied lifestyle.

The Stranglehold of Silence: Suppression of Free Speech in the Israel/Palestine Conflict projectcensored.org/the-strang…

My mom has her vascular procedure tomorrow. I'm sure she's scared because she told me that she wanted to go to Bonefish tonight. That's a huge treat on our budget, especially after the Thanksgiving wipeout (we just finished the last of the leftovers yesterday).

So I know she's thinking that she might not make it through the procedure and she wants a nice last meal with her family, in case.

I'm trying to stay upbeat. My friends from DC called me and said they wanted me home for Christmas.

So much, in fact, that they wanted to pay for me to fly back to DC to visit. I told them my mom's health condition and that I would have to bring them with me. They want to send me whatever it would cost for airfare to get me to come back.

I honestly would like to go to Virginia for Christmas. I want my mom to have her second chance to say goodbye. Things were too rushed when we left. And I want to have my youngest baptized by a pastor who knows our family.

I don't want to host Xmas.

in reply to MMA 🇺🇸💄

I want to see my old friends and get some support. Y'all have been that for me since I left, and I appreciate it. But it's mostly virtual and with all the responsibilities I've been shouldering, I need some hugs and cups of tea and for friends to spend time with my mom and son too. My son would like to see his friends.

There's Stella's and blue crabs that mom wants. And....I want to go to my old church and see our pastor. I want my mom to have communion.

I still have some things to sell.

It's been slow, but the Lord is a great salesperson. I am going to ask Him to sell a few more of my things so I can have enough money to get us to Virginia. I think it's time for a break and I think it would give my mom some hope. My BFF is going to be home for Xmas; she could host us. All of us....puppy included.

That's what I'm going to pray for. And of course that my mom's procedure is successful. We won't be able to travel at all if her foot is still infected and not improving.

Update on my mom-

The procedure did not happen today. I took her in this afternoon and discovered that the doctor was still in surgery with the first patient, 3 hours beyond what was actually anticipated. The next two patients after this one were expected to be 2-3 hours each! It was already 2 pm. You do the math!

So we rescheduled for first thing Friday morning. Her case is urgent, but not critical.

Update on my mom:

The surgeon is such a nice man! He came in to see us before mom’s procedure and told us that it was good that we rescheduled because there were complications from the first patient and then a trauma case came in. He was nice and fresh today! He told us that he anticipated about 60 to 90 minutes to go in through the right leg artery to the left and place the stent.

He just called—mom did fine! I am going to pick her up in about 45 minutes.

Thank you everyone who prayed!

may i just say, the makita power planer with the vacuum dust extraction is 1000x easier and better to use and does not make a huge mess. only a few chips escape onto the floor. the rest end up neatly in the shop vac

i just planed a few pieces of locust wood i cut as a test with the sawmill and they look lovely

i will still finish plane them with a hand planer for a smooth finish but the power planer does remove a lot of material quickly

also it gets stuff flatter after adjusting the blades

overall not a bad tool
