Tinder tests letting users set a 'height preference'
Tinder is leaning into dating apps’ reputation for superficiality with the launch of a new feature that lets paid subscribers add their height preferences to their profiles. After a Reddit user posted a photo of the new height setting in the Tinder app, a company spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that the discovery setting has been launched as a global test.
Tinder Gold and Premium subscribers in the test group will have access to the feature, but not free users, we’re told. In addition, the setting will indicate a preference, rather than functioning as a “hard filter,” the company says. That means it won’t actually block or exclude profiles but instead inform recommendations.
“We’re always listening to what matters most to our Tinder users — and testing the paid height preference is a great example of how we’re building with urgency, clarity, and focus,” said Phil Price Fry, VP Comms at Tinder, in an emailed statement. “This is part of a broader effort to help people connect more intentionally on Tinder. Our new product principles guide every decision, and this one speaks directly to a few: prioritizing user outcomes, moving fast, and learning quickly. Not every test becomes a permanent feature, but every test helps us learn how we can deliver smarter, more relevant experiences and push the category forward.”

It's a full 10 key design, complete with numpad and media keys. It comes in a US qwerty layout by default, but you can basically do anything you want with that layout.
Dimensions: 39 centimeters, by 13.5 cm, and 2.8 cm in height. That's 15.5 inches by 5.32 inches, and one inch in height. It weighs 1.3 kilograms, or 2.8 pounds.
Your keys underneath tab are indented to the right, and everything from the Enter key is also indented to the left, with the arrow keys touching the shift key. The function keys are just Fn keys, you don't get any specific logos or pictograms on them for system functions. You also get 2 spacebar keys.
Anyway, this layout is just the base one: all keycaps are removeable, and you can completely remap the whole keyboard thanks to a configuration tool.
My review unit came with the Kailh Box Silent Pink switches, which I like. You can also get Kailh Box Jade, Royale, or Silent Brown switches.
The keyboard is wired through USB C, and it's also a USB hub, with 2 additional USB C ports, they're 3.2 gen 1, and 2 USB A ports, also 3.2 gen 1. The keyboard also has per key RGB, which you can adjust using the configuration utility.
Since it's a modular keyboard, you also get a bunch of stuff in the box. First, you have 2 USB C cables: one USB A to USB C, and one USB C to USB C. You also get a keycap remover tool, and a lot of additional keycaps.
In the box, you also get 2 small magnetically attached bars of aluminium, with rubber feet, that you can just slot in at the back of the keyboard, to raise it by a 15 degrees handle.
This keyboard doesn't reach its full potential unless you use the configuration tool. It's available in the Pop Shop for Pop OS users, or you can download it off their website as an appimage.
It's a super visual tool, with the full layout of your keyboard on display, and a list of actions you can map to each key. Click the key you want to change, then click the action it does.
You can configure the keyboard with 4 different layers, which all have their own set of actions per keys.
And, more importantly, you can also have RGB settings per layer, and per key.
And the best thing is: once this is saved, it's saved to your keyboard: all your layers, layouts, key mappings and RGB settings, they're all saved on the board itself.
Another important thing to mention, is the fully open design of that keyboard. The chassis design is open source, you can download the CAD files and mill or 3D print your own. The PCB design is also fully open, you can access it on github, and so is the firmware, and the configuration tool.
All other Launch keyboards, the "regular" and the "Lite", have the same advantages: fully open design, access to the configurator tool, a choice of 4 different switch types, and additional keycaps in the box, with the keycap removing tool and the USB C cables.
Where they differ, of course, is in the number of keys. The Launch is a 10keyless design, so without the numpad, but apart from that, it has all the same great features, including the USB C and USB A ports. It doesn't get the additional super key with icons on it though, and it's raiser bar is a single piece, not 2 small ones.
As per the Lite, it's an ultra small design, with the numbrs row and the function row merged into one. It also, of course, dpoesn't have a numpad, but it has all the same accessories, additional keybcaps and cables, RGB, and access to the configuration tool, like its bigger siblings.
What it doesn't have, though, is the USB hub: it's just one USB C cable to plug it in, and that's it.

OH – food for thought: “They've found ways to be successful critics – emphasis on successful. They get invited to conferences, win awards, maintain influence … that success might come from never truly threatening the system.
Maybe aggressive rhetoric and a bridge-burning approach isn’t a bug but a feature. When the house is on fire, you don’t negotiate with the arsonists about fire safety regulations. You sound the alarm, loudly and repeatedly.
In a truly existential fight, we need people who value principles over profit, truth over access, and righteousness over respectability. Someone whose interests align with the cause because they’ve already burned their bridges to the establishment.
Perhaps being ‘annoying’ and ‘divisive’ is what authentic advocacy looks like when you refuse to be co-opted.”
What? There is no question that it has ever been anything less. Working with the system (sic) is why we are here.

Die STIKO ist nicht unabhängig! | Schockierende Belege von Dr. Sabine C. Stebel | dieBasis 2025
dieBasis - Basisdemokratische Partei Deutschland

Was steht in den #RKI-Protokollen?

Whatever happened to cheap eReaders?
shkspr.mobi/blog/2025/05/whate…
Way back in 2012, The Guardian reviewed an eInk reader which cost a mere £8.
The txtr beagle was designed to be a stripped-down and simplified eReader0.
As far as I can tell, it never shipped. There were a few review units sent out but I can't find any evidence of consumers getting their hands on one. Also, that £8 price was the subsidised price when purchased with a mobile contract. Their website ceased working long ago.
But it got me intrigued. Moore's law is supposed to drive down the cost of electronics. So where are all the dirt-cheap eReaders?
The cheapest Kindle for sale on Amazon UK right now is about £100. Back in 2012, it was about £70. Taking inflation into account, that price has stayed static. Brands like Kobo are also in the £100 to £150 range.
About the cheapest retail eReader is the PocketBook Lux 4 for £85 or the (terribly reviewed) Woxter Scriba for £70.
AliExpress has loads of second-hand and obsolete models at cheap-ish prices. But a surprising dearth of new eReaders.
Going wholesale, Alibaba has a range of models, some of which clock in at around £30.
But, of course, that's before shipping and tax. They won't come with any manufacturer's warranty and don't expect any software updates. Also, good luck getting accessories!
So what's stopping new eReaders being released at a cheap(er) price? I think it comes down to four main things.
Reading is a niche hobby
Around 40% of UK adults didn't read a single book last year. That survey combines reading books and listening to audiobooks. Of the 60% who do read/listen, about 14% primarily listen. Of those that read, around 60% do so on paper books.
If reading is niche, reading electronically is a tiny niche! This is somewhat of a chicken-and-egg argument. If an eReader were the same cost as a mass-market paperback, I'm sure many more paper-book readers would become converts.
The whole point of an eInk reader is that it is a distraction-free environment. Yeah, you could scroll TikTok on one, but it isn't a pleasant experience. An eReader is designed for one thing only, unlike a phone or tablet. Do enough people want to carry yet-another-bloody-device just for reading?
eInk is expensive
The company which makes eInk hold several patents on the process. They're not a patent troll; they're building a business and selling mega-hectares of the stuff. Understandably, they have an interest in keeping prices high. They don't want to cannibalise their own market.
A basic 6 inch screen with wiring costs around £20 wholesale - that's from Alibaba, so doesn't include tax and shipping. That's before you've added any electronics or a operating system.
Speaking of which…
Android is a bottleneck
The promise of the Android Open Source Project was a free Operating System for anyone to use. The reality has been a little different. Most people want to be able to use basic Android functionality - like download operating system updates or reading apps. But Google doesn't allow that for eInk devices.
As I understand it, Google requires Android devices to have colour screens and, so I've read, won't certify eInk eReaders for newer versions of Android.
So manufacturers have to source parts which have drivers for older versions of Android. Or they have to develop their own OSes.
Books are fungible
Back when Apple sold iPods, they knew that the majority of purchasers would buy MP3s direct from Apple. The perfect symbiotic relationship! But the walled-gardens cracked and now people can buy their music from anywhere.
Amazon keeps this model for its eBooks. Unless you're prepared to get technical, you can only read Amazon books on your Amazon Kindle paid for with your Amazon wallet.
Games consoles are often sold at a loss because the manufacturer knows they'll make it up in game sales and subscriptions.
A low-price manufacturer is unlikely to also run a book store and wouldn't be able to cross-subsidise their hardware with content sales.
Alternatives
Some people have tried building open source eReaders but they're either abandoned, not suitable for production, or ridiculously expensive.
Buying second hand is relatively cheap - often under £50. But eInk screens can be brittle, and older ones may have scratches or cracks which are effectively unrepairable.
How cheap is cheap?
I'd love a £8 eReader. Something I could throw in a pocket and not worry about damaging. An eReader which was the same price as a hardback book - around £20 - would be amazing.
But I don't think we'll get there soon. The monopoly on screen technologies sets a retail floor of around £30, before the rest of the hardware is taken into account. Niche hardware is viable - but only with decent OS support. Other than Kobo and Amazon, no book retailer wants to stray outside their core competency to develop and subsidise hardware.
So I guess it's buy second-hand, or wait for the patents to expire.
40% of Britons haven’t read a single book in the last 12 months
The median Briton has read just three books in the past yearDylan Difford (YouGov)
I think the ubiquity of smartphones displayed cheap dedicated reading devices just as it displaced cheap digital cameras.
There's nothing preventing monochrome Android-based eReaders; Boox does it, but theirs are $200+.
Google has gone to great lengths with proprietary libraries and SafetyNet attestation to ensure a phone won't be palatable to mainstream consumers without their approval, but people don't expect an eReader to run every app on the Play store. It's viable to build that sort of device on AOSP provided a market for it exists.

Their focus is still on deb packages, mostly, as for example, they're now maintaining a deb package for Thunderbird. The Software install app itself now loads much faster, with the main window appearing almost instantly.
By default, unverified flatpaks won't appear in Mint's software manager.
You do get an option to show these again in the store, with a warning telling you that it's not really secure, you won't see any user reviews, or ratings with the little stars, because this would, I suppose, make them look legit and just like other verified packages.
People WILL turn this setting back on, because not every flatpak people want is verified: Steam, Spotify, Chrome, Dolphin, VLC and more. When they do turn this on, they won't have any indication if said packages could have problems, because they won't have reviews or ratings.
Mint is now moving to older versions of a lot of default apps that are made by GNOME. So, the Font Viewer has been entirely removed from Mint's default install. it's still in the repos though. The video player, the calculator, the scanning app, the disk usage analyzer, the system monitor, the calendar, and the archive manager were all reverted to their older GTK 3 versions, because they all moved to GTK4 and libadwaita for GNOME, and this means Mint wouldn't be able to apply their usual themes to these applications.
The rationale here is that Mint likes to offer a cohesive desktop, much like what GNOME is doing, and what KDE is doing, with one set of guidelines for the user interface, and one theme. The problem is, Mint was using a lot of GNOME apps, which first, started losing their menubars for headerbars a while back, meaning the user interface guidelines were a bit muddied, and second, it meant that these apps were using the libadwaita library, which hardcodes the Adwaita theme itself. Mint could still change this theme, because there are ways to do so, but it's not very sustainable, and it would basically lock users to one single theme.
Other applications that Mint will now ship by default include a new Online Accounts app, that replaces the older online accounts settings panel.
Mint 22 also ships with a matrix client by default now, to replace the discontinued Hexchat app.
Mint 22 is based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, meaning it will get security updates until 2029. This package base is also going to stay the same for Mint until 2026, as always, mint will ship minor updates, but won't move to a newer Ubuntu base.
In turn, this means Mint 22 moved to pipewire as the default, because that's what Ubuntu uses now. It also means Mint comes with the kernel 6.8, and they'll add the usual hardware enablement stack to it, meaning Mint will keep supporting newer hardware by default. This kernel is NOT an LTS version, so I would also be surprised if Mint didn't move to something newer at some point.
On top of that, Mint 22 received more HiDPI improvements in their login screen and in the boot screen as well. Their themes were also updated to work with GTK4, although they won't theme libadwaita apps, only non libadwaita GTK4 apps, which there aren't many of, AFAIK.

Mastodon is a platform comparable to Twitter, but open source, and made of plenty of servers, that talk to each other to form a single social network
So, how do you join? Well the first step is to pick a server. You have a handy short list on joinmastodon.com/servers.
Let's look at the interface. The first thing is your profile. To edit and complete it, just tap your user photo, and click the edit button.
You can also add links to your various other socials, and you'll notice that's where you can be verified. This implies having your own website: you copy a link to your mastodon profile into the code of your website, and you add the link to your website in your mastodon profile, and it will show up in green with a checkmark.
By default, your timeline, in the "home" tab on the mobile app will show posts from everyone you follow. The "search tab" lets you look for people to follow.
Then you have your post button, the black button at the bottom.
Finally, you get your notifications tab.
n mastodon, you have 3 timelines: your home, where you'll only see posts from people or hashtags that you follow, you have the local timeline, which is your community, all the people on YOUR specific server, and you have the federated timeline, which is a giant dump of everything that everyone has posted everywhere. I never use the latter, personally, but you might have a use for it.
When looking at what someone has posted, you have a few options. You can reply, you can boost, which is exactly like a retweet on Twitter: you're posting to your followers the message you're boosting, as is, without any commentary. Then you can "favorite" a post, which is that little star button.
Now, if you want to write a post, then you just hit the "post button" on the mobile app, or you start writing on the left column on the desktop.
Posts have a character limit, that your server sets. By default, it's 500, but it can be more or less.
You can add hashtags like on Twitter, by just typing the hashtag symbol, and you can mention people by typing the @ symbol.
Of course, you can embed images, you can also add polls with up to 4 options, and you can add content warnings. These are basically a filter that will hide the content of your post behind blur and some text. People will only see the text you wrote in the content warning, and if they want to see the actual post, they can click on it.
Finally, you can also pick who will see your post, either only the people you mention, which is the only way to make a direct message on mastodon, all your followers, or everyone.
You can edit your posts.
When writing posts, if you add an image, use the description, and fill it in.
Second, use content warnings liberally. Third, use the "sensitive content" filter for images liberally as well.
If you had a Twitter account, use Movetodon: you login with your twitter account, then your mastodon account, and it will look at your Twitter follows, find the ones that are on mastodon, and offer you to follow them individually, or follow them all in one click.
You can also use the local timeline, using the "local" tab on the web, or in the Search, then Community tab on the mobile app.
Next is using hashtags: you can follow hashtags on mastodon. Click on the hashtag, and then on the follow button.

Hebrew media: Yemen has launched 43 missiles into Israeli depth since March
OCCUPIED PALESTINE, June 01 (YPA) - Hebrew media reported Sunday evening that the occupation forces closed the airspace around Ben Gurion International Airport in the Lod area near Tel Aviv, following the launch of a new missile from Yemen towards thbasheer (Yemen Press Agency)
To those on my side i.e Left who hate Armed Palestine Factions more than worst of the worst Nazi criminals(Empire,West,Nazi regime)
Let me offer olive branch
I'll condemn Hamas if you can
1.Decolonise Palestine from Jewish Nazism(Ur decades long "activism",Jewish Nazi apologia¶des ultimately gave genocide)
2.Give right of return
3.Prosecute Nazis&Reparations
If your ivory tower thinking cant, stop your irrational hate of Hamas& rest.
If you had mentioned the Stone Gang, it would have helped your point.
1930s Jewish terrorism in British Palestine caused a lack of sympathy from the UK during the Holocaust.
Genetically, historically, Jews originate in Israel.
The Palestinians came later.
Now they are getting ejected and history is being righted.
