Different Platforms, Different Users, Different Purposes, Different Goals


Until I ventured off into the wider world of the #Fediverse, I wrongly assumed that they all have the same goal but just different ways of getting there.

After messing with #Mastodon a bit and finding that even with #ActivityPub in common with #Hubzilla and #Friendica, posts shared between these platforms get mixed up, misdirected, or disappear into the ether.

Seeking some insight, I found this post in the Diaspora Discourse forum and found a gem in the discussion which puts my own thoughts into better words than I could express. Kudos to Dennis Schubert, one of Diaspora's developers for this clarification. He writes:

Friendica is a nice project, and has many friends and users. That’s cool. Unfortunately, it’s also the one project where I constantly see less technical users being completely confused, up to a point where they go back to Facebook because that’s easier (or, in rare cases, they go back to diaspora*, because as it turns out, diaspora* is a lot more stable and usable).

Mastodon, Friendica, and diaspora* are very different projects, and I would not say either one is “better”. Mastodon had perfect timing and is catering a lot to the nerds who want something that feels like twitter but is not. Friendica caters a lot to the small group of people who want a tool that “can do everything” and are willing to spend weeks with learning Friendica. diaspora* caters to people who don’t want to spend weeks on learning how things work, and people who appreciate a simpler UX and are fine with the reduced set of features.


BINGO!


Different "target audiences," I guess one might say. Using Mr. Schubert's description definitively, I can surely put myself and most of my friends into that latter category. I love my #diaspora and and am sticking with it. If time and money permit, I'd love to run my own instance some day.

Let's talk about ActivityPub

I think there is literally no good point against implementing ActivityPub other than having no power to implement that (but we could start a fundraising to fund the development of AP implementation).

Why does bitdefender let me download Brave so easily but not Librewold?

So i downloaded Brave on windows 10 a few months ago and i remember that it was pretty easy without any hiccups but last week when i tried to download librewolf a message poped up saying that it may be harmful for your computer even tho i downloaded it from the official source

Is it just me or is microsoft getting more and more desperate to collect our data?

C'était Éric Debarbieux, spécialiste de la violence à l'école, qui était désespéré par les réactions des politiques de la situation et rappelait que:

* Ce sont des évènements ponctuels, la violence baisse en moyenne à l'école depuis des années.
* Les solutions proposées à chaud sont toujours les mêmes (portiques contrôles, fouilles etc., la répression quoi) et on sait qu'elles *ne fonctionnent pas* alors qu'elles coûtent cher. Si la violence baisse, c'est pour d'autres raisons parce que ces installations sont rarement reconduites.
* Les discours politiques ambiant donnent un plus mauvais exemple aux jeunes et sont probablement un facteur de violence (AU PIF LE DISCOURS DU RN).
* L'école a besoin de... Oh merde, des moyens humains qui lui sont retirés depuis des années et que les collègues et les syndicats demandent depuis tout ce temps.

Quand Borne nous dit "Les enfants en difficulté seront pris en charge par des psychologues." on devrait lui répondre "MAIS LESQUELS PUTAIN? LES-QUELS? QUI VA LE FAIRE? QUEL ARGENT? POURQUOI C'EST PAS DÉJÀ LE CAS? VOUS VOUS FOUTEZ DE QUI???"

Une pensée pour la victime et ses proches. On leur laisse à peine le temps du deuil.

Je vais vous dire un secret : pour régler les problèmes de violence dans les établissements scolaires, il faut embaucher du personnel au contact des enfants (pions, psys, profs…). Chuuuuuuuuut ! Ne dites rien au gouvernement apparement ils ne le savent pas. Ce matin j’ai entendu un best of des conneries inutiles et très chères : caméras faciales, portiques, identification faciale sur les réseaux sociaux… TOUT TOUT TOUT mais pas embaucher des gens en mesure de dire « ça va en ce moment, petit ? »

[Long-overdue introduction]

I study the History of the Middle East. I've been focusing on translating news and blog posts from Israeli media to illuminate the historical and contemporary dimensions of Israel's occupation of Palestine and its enduring consequences.

From my perspective, it is difficult to reconcile Israel's status as an occupying power with credible claims of self-defense, considering its actions have resulted in the displacement and marginalization of the indigenous population of Palestine for almost eight decades.

I strongly disagree with the current regime's policies and actions, which do not reflect my values nor those of many Jewish people living in Israel or not.

Furthermore, I find it hypocritical to invoke #antisemitism simply in response to criticism of Israel's occupation, ethnic cleansing, and genocidal actions, as these atrocities are illegal and morally indefensible.

As an Israeli and a Jewish person, I am offended by Israel's policies and its perceived impunity, as well as by people who support it uncritically.

Meiner Erfahrung nach wollen die meisten Menschen nicht wirklich frei sein.


Sie wollen irgendwo dazugehören. Selbst dann, wenn es ihnen schadet. Frei sein zu wollen ist anstrengend und einschüchternd. Es lässt einen nachts wach liegen.
Die meisten wollen zwar alle möglichen #Freiheiten, aber die möglichen negativen Folgen dieser Freiheiten sind sie nicht bereit zu ertragen. Und die meisten sind sich diesem #Widerspruch nicht bewusst.

Man ist vor dieser brachialen Gewalt nirgendwo mehr sicher. Man kann es sich einbilden, der eigenen Familie einreden: "Ich passe auf mich auf." Aber die Wahrheit ist, dass es mittlerweile jeden überall treffen kann.

Zivilcourage wird brutal bestraft. Wer nicht in der Notaufnahme landen will, darf weder anderen helfen noch selbst das Haus verlassen. Der Blick scannt auch zu normalen Tageszeiten an öffentlichen Orten die Umgebung: Der dahinten, mit dem Einkaufswagen voller Milch, ist der nur verrückt oder hat der auch ein Messer dabei? Und die beiden, die den halben Bahnsteig einnehmen, fühlen die ihr Territorium schon bedroht, wenn ich bloß an ihnen vorbeigehe?

Das erfolgt nur wenige Tage, nachdem die beiden größten Kommunen des Landes ähnliche Schritte angestoßen haben. Noch im Sommer sollen demnach jetzt die Hälfte der Angestellten des Ministeriums mit Linux und LibreOffice ausgestattet werden. Wenn dabei alles so läuft, wie erwartet, werde das komplette Ministerium bis zum Herbst von Microsoft befreit sein, fasst Politiken zusammen.

Seit zwei Tagen trage Ich diesen Pin, in nur kürzester Zeit sorgte er für viel Aufregung — aber ausschließlich positive. Was Ich erdachte als Symbol das Menschen unwohl fühlen lässt, wodurch sich Leute angegriffen oder gar unsicher fühlen würden (so wie es des öfteren medial dargestellt wird) ist für viele ein Zeichen gewesen das ein Lächeln hervorbrachte.

Am Hannover Hauptbahnhof gab mir der Kassierer eines Bäckers einen großen Rabatt und deutete auf den Pin, in einem Rossmann bekam Ich ein „cooler Anstecker!” von einer dort arbeitenden Frau zugerufen, und der Dönerladen meines Vertrauens begann mit mir auch eine Diskussion, in der er dieses Zeichen für sehr positiv befand.

In jedem Fall waren es migrantische Hilfskräfte welche dieses Land aufrechterhalten, doch offensichtlich nicht mit dessen Staatsräson einhergehen. Ob im Militär oder auf dem Arbeitsmarkt, für unsere „Freiheit” und „Rechte” lassen immer die ihr Leben, denen sie nichts nützen.
