The Independent | Witnesses and families of those killed say Israeli forces opened fire on the massive crowds gathered that day as hungry civilians scrambled for food in a desert wasteland. He was hit by tank fire, and killed instantly alongside women and children, Iyad says.

Stacey Gilbert, who resigned from the state department in 2024 over the Biden administration’s failure to hold #Israel accountable for blocking aid to #Gaza , called the sites “another stunt”.

What's a cool-sounding alternative to "expert"?

Looking for a suitable, non-pretentious-sounding noun that means something like:

"Knows a lot about this topic (far beyond any intermediate knowledge and definitely enough to help a lot of people), but is still actively learning and doesn't consider themselves (or want to be described as) an expert, as that has a lot of connotations and professional links that they don't have."

Our melty mind is only suggesting kennings to us right now, like "[thing]-knower" or "thing-understander".

@trabex Alas, definitely not a professional, and that would confer qualifications, sanctioned experience, and a level of officialdom that we don't have 😅 Same goes for specialist, sadly.

Master and wizard would sadly trigger our gender dysphoria, where they're both gendered male 🥺 (Also alas wizard is a tainted word for us, due to Harry Potter and the ongoing bigotry of JK Rowling.)

We do very much appreciate the idea behind those thoughts though :HeartHands:

@trabex No apologies necessary whatsoever 🩷 There was no malice behind your answers, only kindness, and that is always the most-important thing.

To answer your question, kind-of. We're looking for something that's technically below expert, as that's a formal grade and has requirements.

Boghana has suggested "proficient in X", which is the closest match for what we're looking for right now. We haven't found another way to describe it.

I'm disappointed by @pluralistic's posts regarding mastodon.social's proposed terms of service.

Saying that the arbitration clause would allow the instance's management to cause a user's death and face no consequences is - frankly - *disinformation*.

Yeah, he cites the Disney issue but he ignores the vital fact that Berlin is not Florida - not everything or everywhere is as fucked up as the United States.

This isn't to say that the arb clause is good, but those posts arguing against are *bad*

Can you plausibly deny that your social media profiles belong to you?

If you use Facebook or XTwit, probably not. If you use a decentralized system, that depends on how you speak on that platform.

Is it time for me to go dark on the Fediverse and create a new persona?

in reply to Sir Matt

@greenzeta probably.

A person close to me recently got put in Facebook Jail for promoting too hard a live show they were producing. While in jail, this person downloaded "all my Facebook data"… and told me they only got a handful of the thousands of photos they "owned".

I didn't get a look at the archive yet, to see if this was just a misunderstanding.

Facebook eventually let them out of jail.

Israel bombed 36 hospitals in Gaza
Israel bombed 40 hospitals in Lebanon
Israel bombed 3 hospitals in Iran

So why are they complaining about hospitals being bombed?

They targeted hospitals.

On the other hand Iran targeted a military building close to the hospital.

The hospital was used as a human shield and it was impacted ONLY by shockwaves. #Iran_IsraelWar #IsraelIsATerroristState

in reply to Anonymous 🐈️🐾☕🍵🏴🇵🇸

slightly unrelated but remember that one time at the start of the genocide when Israel organised this massive media campaign/propaganda trying to argue that it didn't bomb that one particular hospital and there was this massive show in panels with experts, footage analyzing, opinions, debates etc?

Well now they've bombed 36 more of them but no one seems to care anymore. Whoever controls the mainstream media, controls not just the narrative, but what people will think and talk about everywhere, even if they disagree - we were arguing about that one hospital for a week or two and never talked about any other, because they get to decide what we'll talk about.

I personally don't know if, in a blind test, a champagne drinker can taste the difference between official champagne and sparkling white made from the same grapes.
I do know that a pizza eater can taste the difference in NY pizza. It's not a style thing, it's the actual taste/consistency. It's not even my favourite pizza and yet. I've been told it's the water (like sourdough yeast from San Francisco tastes different that sourdough yeast from Chicago).

(James Douglas Morrison)
Tide Drive -- with Muse of June..

Let’s slip
past the painted curb of sanity,
You - Dear Muse of June - and me—barefoot, brain-lit, lunar-dazed—
We’ll hitch a ride
on the tide,
rolling down Luna`s sweet boulevard.

No maps,
just whispers from the sea's cracked lips,
salt-tongue lullabies and the jazz of distant foghorns
blowing Miles into the mist,
a syncopation for drifters and dream-sick lovers
like us --
Searching for soulfood and aching for the unknown.

I saw the stars changed into fireworks -
flicked from a Goddess rooftop party,
and I thought—
this is it,
this is where we drive off the edge
and kiss the night with open eyes.

Let’s drive into the undertow,
Let the ocean drink us in—
not to drown us, baby, no—
To drift
where the dolfins are philosophers
and jellyfish hum sweet melodic sounds.

We’ll trade names with the wind,
make up stories to forget ourselves,
and leave behind
the clocks,
the rent,
the plastic breakfast conversations.

This is the heartbeat cruise,
The midnight escape -
Take the wheel, darling,
I’m blind - on stardust
and singing in a language only the tide remembers.

So let´s set sail
Now -
You, My Dear Muse of June -- and me
Lets sail to the moon - The Sweetness Luna -
Before the world awakes..

Just a reminder that Google is an illegal monopolist, having lost three distinct antitrust cases.

It looks likely that Google will be treated the way Microsoft was in their famous antitrust loss in the late 1990s, and not be broken up in any significant way. Google absolutely should be broken up, just like AT&T and Standard Oil (and countless other large US monopolists) were before it. Google's wealth and power derives from illegal behavior; this is not in question anymore. Why should they be permitted to keep what courts have decided they stole? 100 years of antitrust law and precedent says that it should not be permitted to keep the spoils of its illegal behavior.

It sounds to me like the hesitation to break up Google is largely ideological on the part of the judges and lawyers involved. The failure to break up Microsoft after its antitrust loss is arguably one of the main reasons the US economy is such a monopolized, consolidated mess today, and why so many things are "enshittifying". Breaking up Google and changing that pattern would obviously not cure all ills, but it'd almost surely make a number of things in the economy better for a whole lot of people.

In any case, one thing we can all do is look at Google as a bad actor, a law-breaking entity whose power is illegitimate.

Moti #Shefer, Israel’s all time most respected ballistic expert, has been arguing throughout the last 2 decades that Israel’s anti missile systems have achieved O (zero) success in intercepting enemy missiles and projectiles. According to Shefer the #IronDome is a money making scum (I would expect nothing less from God’s favourite children).

Shefer shows in his scientific study that a single Palestinian rocket would appear on the Israeli anti missile system as 20 separate targets. The Israeli system would then target 20 enemy projectiles, one would of course through. It would be presented as 95% success but in fact it is a 100% failure, a #hoax!!!

I have been writing a lot about #Iran’s air defence being compromised due to the Israeli first move. Iran, however, is gaining its air defence in place. It is dealing with relatively slower objects. But #Israel air defence is totally obsolete, dysfunctional. It may be effective against Nazi V2 technology but these are not around for a while.

In this superb video analysis you can get yourself informed about the Israeli and American total incapacity to deal with Iran hyper sonic technology.
#Iran has the upper ground in the sky.
