I think it's a sign of progress that it's been many years now since I seriously thought "am I REALLY queer or have I just somehow tricked myself into thinking I'm queer while all along I've actually been straight??"
Existing as I have in the area of bi but also aromantic and somewhere on the asexual spectrum, it was hard for a long time to see my experience reflected in that of anyone else, which made me question my own sense of reality in a way I now find quite sad.
The other day I said to a friend, in bafflement, "can you believe I spent years questioning whether I was queer??" And she laughed at the absurdity of it. I'm glad that doubt is in the past.
Additionally the categories of cisgender and heterosexual are violently enforced and rigidly policed, it's all fake anyway, and everyone would find greater happiness in breaking free of it in whatever ways suit them.

ooh i see what you mean. maybe press is better in europe? i personally think the press is at least slightly better coming out of europe. over here our press is the beneficiary of campaign donations-purchased politcal media blitzes than happen every 2 years so there's virtually no credibility, and they share the same bias as the "defense" community because of this. but with european states... i think the uk, germany, france, and even italy are 100% on board with the israeli project. Currently, as well as historically. This is an economic thing and military-alliance thing. I guess cultural too. And these countries are all on the same side with respect to each of the three.
@benda I don't understand any other European language except for Norwegian. Norway is a little different because they're a neutral country. But I think the rest of Europe is actually pretty torn about the situation in Israel. And nobody seems to understand it. Is it just Israel against the Palestinians? The Iranians? Or just the Muslim world as a whole? Nobody really knows. And the US isn't as cavalier about what genocide means like Europe is for obvious reasons.
@benda So I think for Europe it's very much a damned if you do, damned if you don't sort of thing. Especially since Iran has never acted provocatively towards Europe as they have the US.

I have no idea how the Iran-Israel war is going on the ground. But my browsing of various social media apps tells me that Iran is winning the social media war. Posts and videos celebrating every strike on Israel outnumber pro-Israeli content by about 5 to 1. I don't think that it's just my personal feed either. I just finished #PicksAndShovels last night. Really fun read. It clearly comes from @pluralistic's heart. I won't say anything about the plot bc it unfolds beautifully and then folds itself up in a very satisfying way, but I will say that along with being a thriller set in the early days of computing, it's a coming-of-age story about being young and full of good intentions but with lots and lots to learn. I think a lot of men will relate to it. I hope it's not the last Hench novel!

syncing: finishing: opening temp file: open /storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Webcam/.syncthing.2024-07-1621:42:30.jpg.tmp: operation not permitted
I don't how how to fix it, the desktop app has the required permissions, and the Android app has as many storage permissions as I can give it under Android's horrible SAF limitations.
It seemed to used to be happening only to some specific old files, but now it's happening to all the new files I add onto my laptop under Videos or Music.
In addition, when trying to sync files with a specific server, it shows as disconnected, even when both are online and connected to the LAN (my phone via WiFi, the server via Ethernet), and there is some error about encryption expectations
