seriously, there are no "sleeper cells." I've been hearing about them for decades.
do you REALLY think a cell would "sleep"? FFS, if I buy someone a Christmas gift NOW, I'll give it to them next week. and that's trivial.
any "cell" here is not sleeping or waiting for anything. what would be the point?

Hi, please kindly direct me to the right community to ask this:
Plasma 6 is my favorite DE and i use KDE neon.
The screen brightness adapts automatically to the windows i focus on, which is a good idea. But it does that the wrong way IMO. Dark windows are dimmed and bright windows are lit up. Why? Now i have both extremes switching back and forth all the time. Can we turn that the other way around or turn it off please?
I like that the screens hardware brightness setting is used now from the desktop. Great! But now i have no control over it anymore, since when i open a bright window, the brightness setting goes up too. I hate that at night.
Usually adjusting the brightness for me has one purpose:
- bright room: max display brightness (day)
- dark room: min display brightness (night)
...maybe something in between for transition.
All the other features are nice to have but please only work on them when this main feature is secured.

"The order that we received from our CIC was focused; it was powerful , & it was clear. We devastated the Iranian nuclear program. What it's worth noting that the operation did not target the Iranian troops or the Iranian people. For the entirety of his time in office, President Trump, has consistently stated for over 10 yrs, that Iran must not get a nuclear weapon, full stop. Thanks to President Trump's bold & visionary leadership ...

Taiwan is "of course" a country and China lacks both the historical evidence and legal proof to back up its sovereignty claims, President Lai Ching-te said on Sunday in a strong rebuke to Beijing and its stepped up political and military pressure.
China says democratically-governed Taiwan is "sacred" Chinese territory that has belonged to the country since ancient times, and that the island is one of its provinces with no right to be called a state.
Lai and his government strongly reject that view, and have offered talks with China multiple times but have been rejected. China calls Lai a "separatist".
Giving the first of 10 speeches in a series called "uniting the country", Lai drew on Taiwan's history, including the millennia-long connection of its indigenous people to other Austronesians, like native Hawaiians, to show what he said was Taiwan's separate and distinct development from China.

Feels like this song which was rather in context with the US and the USSR that ordinary people do not want war. Irony: The Box is a Canadian band and they posed as Americans. Came to mind when I traveled in Canada recently and the FM started to play that song.

Prophetic word about Trump - 2014
Some scattered thoughts:
- The Israeli and US attacks against Iran are blatantly illegal under international law. The US attacks are blatantly illegal under US law and represent the most casual, blasé violation of the constitution I can recall in my life.
- No one involved in these crimes will ever suffer meaningful consequences for their crimes (unless we can figure out how to do it ourselves). Law cannot save us because it was never meant to protect us, and the fiction of a constitutional order in the US or a functioning system of international law should be well and truly dead now.
- The Iranian regime is genuinely, truly awful. There is very little the Iranian regime has done to the people under its rule that the Israeli state has not also done to Palestinians. All of these regimes deserve to be destroyed—by the people they rule and abuse, not by rival monstrous regimes.
- Real human beings are suffering because of this—the civilians on the receiving ends of these strikes, the people who will sicken and die if nuclear materials are exposed and scattered, the children who go hungry because meals were stolen from their mouths to pay for ballistic missiles and B2 bombers and one-way attack drones.

You mean states are going back on their pinky promise that they're not going to do a state violence? As a neoliberal, I am very concerned. If they do this another million times, I'll consider writing a letter to my congressperson (lol, no I won't).
This photo means a lot to me … I had to run around the traffic circle to align the sunburst with the top of the Azadi Tower.
When I visited the top level, I made a point of standing in the center window of each of the four sides.
Whenever I see a photo of the tower, whatever the circumstance, I can say with certainty that I was *there*.

Lets be clear; changes to tax laws do not 'force' the wealthy to leave the country.
The wealthy are choosing not to increase their contribution to the country they are (currently at least) living in.
Sure that is a choice they are free to make, but its their choice; no-one is forcing them into anything.
They already have enough money, so refusing to pay higher taxes is a choice about what they wish to support in their (for now) home country!
They are not victims!
The street that my mum lives in is a one-way street, but wasn't marked as such on #Google Maps. This caused many drivers to drive the wrong way. I have tried to edit it on Google Maps (there is such functionality), but to no avail. No matter how often I submitted a change (with photos of street signs!), Google said "Sorry, we could not verify it".
Solution: Edit the street on #OpenStreetMap! A few months after I did this, Google seems to have stolen the data, as it regularly does, and now the street is correct in both datasets!

So a while back, I wanted to play Conkere bad furday. After doing some math I worked out that it was cheaper to get an Xbox One and Rare Replay, than the original game.
But now that I have Conkers, and a new box. I thought to myself. Hey isn’t this backwards compatible with 360. Which it was. But this lead me to another thought. Why deal with Ubisoft BS on PCs and their Client. Where older games force you to sign in to play them. When I could just have them on one box.
Which eventually lead me to acquiring this small collection. Total price is $155.88 CAD (before tax) and I know I overpaid for some of the later games. But it’s all on one system with no Uplay BS in my face.
Ac1 - $3

ACU - $10 ($7 more than i think should costs)
ACS - $13
ACC - $18 (shocked with this one)
ACOr - $20 (could’ve got it for $10 but got it on impulse)
ACOd - $20
ACV - $30 (again $10 over used)
Almost guaranteed, at least. Consoles are now in the habit of closing their stores after a new generation or two when they stop making enough money, and there are a lot of games today that aren't really playable without a day 1 patch or additional content requirement that are simply not included on the disc.
A lot of games (not even just Nintendo) don't even include the game data on the physical media anymore. The disc/cart acts only as a license and the entire thing is downloaded from the store when first used.

Regarding Adam's comments about Siri's "not ready" clip. There was a key statement in that clip. Apple is trying to run the model on-device. You can't run a model of any usable size on an iPhone. Even if it had the memory, it would take days for it to crunch through the prompt. It's like trying to pull a tractor trailer with a Honda Civic.
So, instead, they have to run smaller models which can't handle any worth while tasks.
Adam, show Adam? Wasn’t he the one who decried Alexa and made his own “talking tube”? He has no credibility here.
You are correct that Siri’s biggest problem is being forced to run on the phone. However I don’t need it to do much more than it’s capable of now.
Umm. Only part of Siri runs locally

I picked up an old optiplex I'm trying to use as a NAS and do other things with. Initially I put Debian on there but felt like I was running into too many problems with things like power management, remot desktop, Docker, and mounting drives.
So I put Openmediavault on there and it's working now. But what are some of the best ways to get the most out of it?
Can I do most things through the browser interface, or should I remote into it to install things?
How easily can I mount it as a network drive to other computers? I still have a Windows PC so I'd like to access it from there too if possible.
And what's the best way to get other services running on it? I'm thinking of how it's possible to set up torrenting software and control it with a remote app from your phone. (For managing and sharing my distros, of course).
Happy to hear any feedback on what people do with OMV, or their setups for a NAS in general. This is more of a tinkering computer to get me more familiar with networks and Linux.
I don't use OMV, but I have a nas server I built and here is my .02

Here’s the thing: fuck the ayatollah and his mullahs and fuck Hamas (neither of those bastards would hesitate to put a bullet in the head of an atheist apostate like me) but that doesn’t mean you attack the people of Iran (most of whom oppose the regime) or Palestine (who also suffer under the yoke of Hamas – an organisation that, furthermore, was funded and supported by Netanyahu’s regime to sabotage the peace process).
If you cannot separate authoritarian regimes from the people being oppressed by them, and if you condone the indiscriminate slaughter of the latter, then don’t be surprised when the same rules end up applying to you… given the way things are going in the United States, for example.
We have rules of combat and international law for a reason. It’s not because we’re morally superior; far from it. It’s because we don’t want that same shit done to us. That’s a dangerous thing to forget.

hamas was founded in the 80s, before bibi was in power. and while Israel's government HAS helped, most of the evidence given boils down to 'they've been too lax, they should've cracked down pre-Oct 7'--that is, 'do this war earlier'.
Also, all of those are dictatorships. In a democracy like Israel, Hamas (or Iran, or Hezbollah, or...) could say Bibi's popular (not that it'd help). But in Iran and Gaza, it's not 'the people' supporting this. The people are being dragged along for the ride.
