#UK / Co-op stops sourcing from Israel over human rights violations

The Co-op Group, a member-owned retailer operating over 2,300 UK food stores, announced it will cease sourcing products from 17 countries including Israel due to "internationally recognised" human rights abuses and violations of international law. The retailer will stop selling Israeli carrots this month as part of its commitment to no longer stock Israeli goods. The decision follows a board review of the Co-op's role "in building peace" and reflects member voices.

Other countries on the prohibited list include Russia, Mali, Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, Libya and Syria. This contrasts with other UK retailers like #Tesco, which continues sourcing from #Israel while avoiding Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories.

The people should have the same tools used by domestic abusing cowardly killers with legal immunity (cops)

404media.co/fucklapd-com-lets-…

‘FuckLAPD.com’ Lets Anyone Use Facial Recognition to Instantly Identify Cops

A new site, FuckLAPD.com, is using public records and facial recognition technology to allow anyone to identify police officers in Los Angeles they have a picture of. The tool, made by artist Kyle McDonald, is designed to help people identify cops who may otherwise try to conceal their identity, such as covering their badge or serial number.

“We deserve to know who is shooting us in the face even when they have their badge covered up,” McDonald told me when I asked if the site was made in response to police violence during the LA protests against ICE that started earlier this month. “fucklapd.com is a response to the violence of the LAPD during the recent protests against the horrific ICE raids. And more broadly—the failure of the LAPD to accomplish anything useful with over $2B in funding each year.”

“Cops covering up their badges? ID them with their faces instead,” the site, which McDonald said went live this Saturday. The tool allows users to upload an image of a police officer’s face to search over 9,000 LAPD headshots obtained via public record requests. The site says image processing happens on the device, and no photos or data are transmitted or saved on the site. “Blurry, low-resolution photos will not match,” the site says.

fucklapd.com uses data provided by the City of Los Angeles directly to the public,” McDonald told me in an email. “This data has been provided in response to either public records requests or public records lawsuits. That means all of this information belongs to the public and is a matter of public record. fucklapd.com is not scraping any data.”

In addition to potentially identifying officers by name and serial number, FuckLAPD.com also pulls up a police officer’s salary.

“Surprisingly it [the domain name] only costs $10 a year to exercise my first amendment right to say fucklapd.com,” McDonald said.
playlist.megaphone.fm?p=TBIEA2…
I tested the tools by grabbing an image of a white and bald police officer from an LAPD press conference addressing its use of force during the anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles. I uploaded the image to the site, and within a few seconds the site presented me with nine headshots of officers who could be possible matches, all of them bald white men. The first correctly identified the cop in the image I uploaded.

Clicking “view profile” under the result sent me to the Watch the Watchers site by the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition, a community group based in the Skid Row neighborhood of downtown Los Angeles. “All of the information on this website comes from records that were deliberately made public by the City of Los Angeles in response to either public records requests or public records lawsuits,” the Watch the Watchers site says. “We plan to keep refreshing this data from new public records requests as well as to add other data.” Stop LAPD Spying Coalition is not associated with FuckLAPD.com and did not endorse the site.

McDonald told me that since the site launched, it had around 50,000 visitors, but “Because the analysis happens on-device I have no way of knowing what people are using it for, except for some people who have posted screenshots to Twitter or Instagram,” he said.

In 2018 McDonald made another tool called ICEspy which used hundreds of photos of ICE employees from LinkedIn and does much the same thing as FuckLAPD.com. “This app is designed to highlight and embarrass the organization committing atrocities against refugees and immigrants to the United States,” ICEspy’s website says. That tool originally used a Microsoft API, before Microsoft restricted access to it. McDonald said on X that he recently relaunched the tool to run locally on devices. 404 Media tested ICEspy using images of ICE employees on LinkedIn to verify if the tool worked and each result was incorrect; McDonald indicated on X he was looking for others to re-scrape LinkedIn and update the database.

Over the last few months ICE officers have consistently worn masks, neck gaiters, sunglasses, and baseball caps to shield their identity while often refusing to provide their name or even confirm the agency they belong to. This includes while violently assaulting people, detaining U.S. citizens, and pointing weapons at bystanders, leaving little room for recourse or accountability against the individual agents or the agency.

ICE’s constant use of masks has created a climate where people cannot be sure that the heavily armed group of men coming towards them are really federal agents or not. In Philadelphia, a man pretended to be an ICE agent in order to rob an auto repair shop and zip tie an employee. In Brooklyn, a man posed as an immigration officer before attempting to rape a woman.

ICE claims that assaults against its officers have increased by 413 percent, and use this as the justification for covering their faces. But as Philip Bump showed in the Washington Postthere are still plenty of questions about those numbers and their accuracy. ICE says its officers’ family members have been doxed too.

Neither the LAPD or ICE responded to a request for comment.

Joseph Cox contributed reporting.

Though serviceable, [Calamares is] not as slick as the initial setup on Windows, macOS or even GNOME.

Setup on Windows? Slick? Dude fuck, I do not want whatever vision this author wants for Linux if the minefield of dark patterns is "slick" to them. Calamares is the slickest, most straightforward OS install I've ever had, far surpassing Windows.

Site Protection Standards And Safety Regulations For Crushing Plants In Different Countries In Latin America

The mining and construction sectors in Latin America are rapidly evolving, driven by infrastructure development and increasing demand for aggregates. However, operating aggregate crusher plants and other crushing equipment safely and in compliance with local laws is a complex challenge. Countries across the region have developed distinct site protection standards and safety regulations that operators must navigate to avoid penalties, ensure worker safety, and minimize environmental impact.

This article explores the varied safety and site protection requirements for crushing plants in key Latin American countries, highlighting best practices and regulatory considerations for stone crusher en Mexico, portable debris crusher operations, and other installations.

Overview Of Crushing Plant Safety Regulations In Latin America

Mining and aggregate crushing sites(planta procesadora de agregados) inherently pose risks due to heavy machinery, dust generation, noise, and large volumes of loose materials. Latin American governments recognize these risks and have implemented regulations that address equipment safety, environmental protection, and worker health.

Although many countries share common goals, the specifics of site protection standards and safety legislation vary considerably. This variation requires operators to stay informed and adapt their processes accordingly.

Country-Specific Site Protection And Safety Requirements

Mexico: Comprehensive Regulation For Stone Crusher Operations

Mexico maintains one of the more developed regulatory frameworks for crushing plants. The stone crusher en Mexico(trituradora de piedra en mexico) must comply with guidelines from SEMARNAT (Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales) concerning emissions control, noise limits, and water management.

Operators are required to install dust suppression systems, including water sprays and filters, to minimize particulate release. Safety measures such as guarded conveyors, emergency stop mechanisms, and proper signage are strictly enforced.

In addition, Mexico mandates regular workplace safety training and audits to ensure compliance with NOM-031-STPS-2011, which governs the prevention of occupational hazards in mining and construction environments.

Brazil: Environmental and Labor Safety Emphasis

Brazil’s crushing plant operators face stringent environmental licensing procedures. Agencies such as IBAMA (Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis) enforce regulations related to land use, water discharge, and air quality.

Aggregate crusher plant installations must include measures for noise abatement and erosion control due to the country’s sensitive ecosystems. Worker safety follows the standards of NR-22, a regulation that sets forth health and safety protocols specific to mining activities.

Brazilian regulations also emphasize community engagement and require companies to conduct environmental impact assessments before project approval.

Chile: Advanced Worker Protection and Site Monitoring

Chile has developed advanced worker safety laws, requiring crushing plant operators to implement hazard identification, risk analysis, and safety controls under the Ministry of Health’s guidelines.

Portable and fixed plants alike must be equipped with guarded machinery, vibration dampening, and ergonomic controls. Regular monitoring of dust levels, noise exposure, and equipment maintenance records is compulsory.

For environmental protection, Chile mandates revegetation plans and water resource management, especially in mining regions vulnerable to desertification.

Argentina and Peru: Growing Focus On Site Safety and Environmental Protection

Argentina and Peru are continuously updating their safety regulations to match international best practices. Both countries require portable debris crusher(trituradora de escombros portátil) operators to maintain clean work sites with clear access paths and emergency response plans.

In Peru, the Ministry of Energy and Mines oversees safety certifications, requiring crushing plants to adhere to operational limits on noise and dust, and to install emergency shutdown systems.

Argentina’s Secretariat of Mining enforces site perimeter security, worker PPE standards, and machinery safety interlocks, aiming to reduce accidents on aggregate crusher plant sites.

Best Practices For Compliance Across Latin America

  • Dust and Noise Control: Use of water sprays, dust collectors, and noise barriers is essential to comply with air and sound pollution standards.
  • Machinery Safeguards: Guarding of belts, pulleys, and crushers, along with emergency stop devices, reduces injury risk.
  • Worker Training: Ongoing education on hazard awareness, PPE usage, and emergency protocols is critical.
  • Environmental Management: Proper waste disposal, erosion control, and site restoration protect local ecosystems.
  • Regular Audits: Internal and external inspections ensure continuous adherence to evolving regulations.

Conclusion

Operating a crushing plant in Latin America requires thorough understanding and compliance with a patchwork of national regulations and site protection standards. Whether running a stone crusher en Mexico, a portable debris crusher in Peru, or a large-scale aggregate crusher plant in Brazil, adhering to safety and environmental guidelines is fundamental for legal operation and sustainable business success.

Contractors and plant managers should prioritize up-to-date training, invest in modern safety equipment, and engage local experts to navigate regulatory complexities. By doing so, they contribute to safer work environments, reduced environmental impact, and stronger reputations within Latin America’s competitive mining and construction sectors.

#Palestine / Israeli police kills 65-year-old Palestinian woman in occupied East Jerusalem

A 65-year-old Palestinian woman, Zahiya al-Obeidi, was shot dead in the head by Israeli police during operations in Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem. She was brought to Shuafat checkpoint with penetrating injuries and no signs of life. Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances.

A police sniper shot last week two Palestinians in the al-Tur neighborhood - 12-year-old Iyas Ra'ad Abu Mafreh and his 21-year-old cousin Oudai Fadi Abu Juma. Police claimed they were involved in throwing fireworks and Molotov cocktails, but family members and eyewitnesses told #Haaretz they were standing on the street eating pizza with no disturbances in the area. Video footage obtained by Haaretz supports the family's account.

On the same day, soldiers shot dead 22-year-old Moataz Hajajleh in Walaja village near Jerusalem, claiming he pulled a knife and tried to stab them and steal their weapons. His family and village residents claim soldiers shot him without danger to themselves, after beating him and his relatives.

Sneaky Expenses That Can Upend Your Web Design Budget

Web design projects often come with hidden costs that can catch you off guard. Some are minor but add up quickly. Others can seriously strain your budget. And if you're hiring a cheap website designer, these surprises can hit harder—low prices often mean

Starting your first website? It's an exhilarating step. But it's easy to misjudge the costs. Many assume they just need a designer, a domain name, and a few photos to get going. Sounds easy, right?

Not so fast.

Web design projects often come with hidden costs that can catch you off guard. Some are minor but add up quickly. Others can seriously strain your budget. And if you're hiring a cheap website designer, these surprises can hit harder—low prices often mean shortcuts somewhere.

Here's what you need to watch for to keep your finances in check.

1. Domain and Hosting Might Not Be Covered

To get your site online, you need a domain (like yourbusiness.com) and hosting (the server that powers your site). Some designers include these in their package. Many don't.

Domains typically cost $10–25 per year. Hosting ranges from $5 a month for basic plans to $40+ for more robust options.

Newcomers often think these are one-time fees. They're not—you'll need to renew them regularly.

2. Templates Can Hide Extra Costs

A pre-built website template might seem like a budget-friendly choice. But templates can come with unexpected expenses.

You might face:

  • Fees for premium features or add-ons
  • Licensing costs for commercial use
  • Charges to hire a developer to tweak a rigid template

By the time you've fixed a "cheap" template, you might've spent as much as a custom design.

3. Stock Images Can Stack Up

Some designers use free images from the internet. Others expect you to provide your own. If you don't have quality photos, you'll likely need to buy stock images.

These typically cost $8–30 per image. A full site might need several, and the bill grows fast.

Using unlicensed images by mistake? That can lead to legal trouble after your site launches.

4. Extra Revisions Can Get Pricey

Most design packages include a few revisions—say, two or three rounds. Go over that, and you're paying extra, often by the hour or per tweak.

First-time site owners often need more changes as they refine their vision. Those small edits can add up quickly.

Ask early: How many revisions are included? What's the cost for extras?

5. SEO Might Be an Add-On

A stunning website is worthless if it's invisible on Google.

Search engine optimization (SEO) covers meta tags, image alt text, and site structure. Some designers include basic SEO. Others charge extra or skip it entirely.

If you're hiring a cheap website designer, don't expect SEO to be part of the deal. A site no one finds isn't worth much.

6. Mobile Optimization Isn't Always Included

You'd assume every site works on phones these days. Not true. Some designers treat mobile-friendly design as an extra service.

You might get a site that looks great on a laptop but breaks on a smartphone. Fixing it later costs more.

Always confirm: Is mobile optimization built in from the start?

7. Content Writing Might Be Your Responsibility

Designers handle visuals and layout. But the text? That's often on you.

Some assume the designer will write the content. Many won't—or they'll use placeholder text and wait for your input. Hiring a copywriter can cost $300–$1,200, depending on your site's scope.

That's a surprise you don't want halfway through the project.

8. Maintenance Comes with a Cost

A website isn't a one-and-done job. It needs ongoing care.

Software updates, plugin fixes, and security patches are a must. Some designers offer maintenance plans. Others leave you to handle it or hire someone else.

Ignoring maintenance can lead to broken features or security risks. It's cheaper to maintain than to rebuild a broken site.

9. Cheap Designers Can Lead to Bigger Bills

A cheap website designer might seem like a great deal. Sometimes, they deliver. But often, you get what you pay for.

They might skip testing across browsers, use outdated tools, or vanish after payment. If your site fails or needs a rework, you're paying someone else to fix it. That "bargain" can become your priciest option.

Final Advice: Ask the Right Questions Upfront

You don't need to be a tech expert to avoid surprises. Just ask clear questions before you commit.

  • Who covers domain and hosting?
  • How many revisions are included?
  • Is the site mobile-friendly?
  • Who writes the content?
  • Is SEO included?
  • What's the plan for maintenance?

It's your site. Know exactly what you're paying for.

Bottom Line

A website is a big investment. Hidden costs can derail your plans, but you can avoid them with the right questions. Whether you're working with a premium studio or a cheap website designer, stay vigilant. Ask questions. Check the contract.

Paying less upfront doesn't always mean saving money in the end.

“Estoy aprendiendo español, poco a poco.

Estoy solo, no tengo a nadie allí, no me queda familia.

Any ways to access Azure Virtual Desktop with multiscreen support?

One of the reasons I can’t move away from Windows is that I use Azure Virtual Desktop (Windows App) to log in for work on my home computer.

I could get a laptop/desktop from them, but I don’t want to be responsible for their equipment. Plus I really don’t want all the spy stuff they have in their machines on my network. And we set up AVD specifically for my team because we refused to get company devices, so this was the compromise.

Anyway, I have used the web version to access and it works well on my laptop. But the problem is that I want to use both of my monitors and I don’t think that’s possible. Maybe I’m wrong?

Any ideas on how I can use Linux and still access AVD with multiscreens?

Edit: Microsoft supports literally EVERYTHING except Linux. It’s nuts. macOS and ChomeOS and Android and iOS and iPadOS are supported. All Linux gets is the web client and that’s for any device with a web browser.

So this got me thinking.

Could I use this with Wine/Proton? I don’t think so because it’s an msi file, not an exe. I’m admittedly not too familiar with this process outside of installing Windows games from Steam on SteamOS on my Steam Deck. I haven’t had success when trying to install apps through Wine in the past.

Is there a way to run macOS packages in Linux? I haven’t found anything in my online searches that says this can work. Anyone have something on that? I’m pretty sure this would be a dmg file.

I tried installing the apk for Windows App from the Google Play Store onto my Linux laptop running KDE Neon to test through Waydroid but I have been having issues getting it installed. Plus, even if I can get the apk installed, would it support dual screens?

The Ceasefire That Never Was: Gaza, Lebanon & Iran #Palestine freepalestinetv.substack.com/p…

#DeathWorld / How Israel and the US create a "death world" breaking not only Gaza but the foundations of humanitarian law

[...] "today, the death world we know is Gaza."

Gaza has become a place where the conditions are so systematically destructive and dehumanizing that its inhabitants exist in a state between life and death - where normal human existence has been made impossible through deliberate policy.

Israel's systematic destruction of Gaza over 88 weeks that has killed nearly 56,000 Palestinians, including over 15,000 children, while displacing 1.9 million people are crimes.

Hansen shows how US officials privately acknowledged Israeli war crimes while publicly defending them. State Department resignees describe how the Biden administration ignored clear evidence of deliberate aid blocking and civilian targeting, with one official stating that Biden administration officials "completely forfeit any right to critique the Trump administration for lack of morals" after laying the groundwork for lawlessness.

Both governments have deliberately shattered the post-WWII international legal order, creating what the author calls a "death world" in Gaza through systematic violations of humanitarian law.

Spirit in Ashes. Hegel, Heidegger, and Man-Made Mass

[1985]Edith Wyschogrod's concept of the "death world" is a philosophical and ethical framework she developed to understand the phenomenon of man-made mass death in the modern era.

In her book "Spirit in Ashes: Hegel, Heidegger, and Man-Made Mass Death", she argues that events such as the #Holocaust, the use of nuclear weapons, genocides, famines, and forced deportations are not isolated incidents but part of a single global phenomenon she calls the "death event." This event has radically altered the meaning of self, time, and language in human experience.

Wyschogrod defines the "death world" as a new and unique form of social existence where populations live under conditions simulating death, effectively becoming "the living dead." This includes three main expressions:

1. Wars deploying weapons designed for maximum human destruction,

2. The intentional use of famine, deportation, and dislocation to destroy populations,

3. The creation of death worlds, such as concentration camps, where life is reduced to a state of ongoing death.
