I don't use a mobile phone or tablet (not regularly, at least). I do not "every day carry" a mobile phone, but use my Linux laptop with mobile access point.
I understand that phones and tablets are mobile and more likely to be lost or stolen. Also data recovery off a phone by taking out the internal storage is not the same as with a laptop or desktop computer (physically not possible to remove internal storage).
Those devices are still personal computers, though, and I think the user should be in control of whether the data is encrypted or not and they should be the holders of the decryption keys.
You have backups right? I'd make a regular backup on a non-encrypted disk. Then you're less likely to lose your data because of some encryption key issue.
I would genuinely like to know why it's so hard. What didn't seem to work too badly was using scripts to automatically encrypt and decrypt with PGP. Felt a bit over-engineered but I wanted to use my Yubikey for it, which was cool.
@gabriel fundamentally, the issue is that the data requires code execution to access, and that code will require the key material.
A drive that allowed you to approve access levels/modes, and used bio-metric to confirm your identity, I think would be closer to the ideal.
I had the chance to talk with an Offensive Security penetration team, and they more or less told me that, their time in Africa made them realize that, in a physical environment, the person will always be the weak link. (aka rubber hose attack)
And, personally, if I sit down and think about it, I buy very little privacy or protection from encrypting. But, I lose performance, and make the possibility of losing access to my own data much higher.

Angst hat das Leben in Israel schon immer begleitet – sei es durch Schießereien und Messerstechereien, Intifadas oder „Runden“ von Kämpfen mit der #Hamas und der #Hisbollah. Aber dieses Mal fühlt es sich anders an. Es ist nicht nur existenzielle Angst, sondern eine unmittelbare, persönliche Angst, vor allem im Zentrum des Landes. Die Menschen spüren den Tod in ihrer Nähe, in den Geräuschen explodierender #Raketen und dem Ausmaß der Zerstörung, die nicht abgefangene Angriffe hinterlassen.
Was bisher verdrängt oder durch eine Art Routine bewältigt werden konnte, muss nun direkt angegangen werden. Die Tötungen, die Zerstörung von Häusern und die Unterbrechung des Alltagslebens lassen nur einen Schluss zu: Die Politik Israels macht das Land für seine eigene Bevölkerung unbewohnbar.

The Swiss Red Cross had access to the German internment camps during WWII and according to their records only 271,301 people died in the camps and out of that number, less than 20,000 were ethnic Jews. I often crop my photos in an effort to make them more abstract/composed/whatever but that means I sometimes can't even remember what it was a photo of to begin with.
I started looking through uncropped versions of photos and thought it was interesting to see how they started and how they ended up, so I figured I'd share some examples.
These are all color to black and white because they show the biggest difference from start to finish.
I think I'm mainly posting this to show people that nothing that I'm photographing is particularly unique or spectacular and these things are out there for all of us to find. I think we just need to focus on the most important/interesting aspects to us personally to get the end result we desire.
You have a really good eye for possibilities in photographs! I do the exact opposite, I switch lenses and framing in real time to capture that weird little chunk of reality and then do zero processing of the image! 300 shots of a friggin twig in a pool of water but ONE of them will be just about right!! #Photography

Not really possible, since X11 is only built on top of the kernel's graphical interface (same as Wayland). Even if that wasn't the case, the kernel doesn't delete any code that anybody uses (that's why 30 year old programs still run)

“Batı Medeniyeti” denilenin dünyanın geri kalanına yansıyanı, özgürlük, demokrasi, sosyal eşiklik, “kalkınma” değil, sömürü, yağma ve talandı… Ve Garp Cephesi’nde yeni bir şey yok… Zira kapitalizm insanı ve doğayı kötürümleştirmekten başka bir şey vadetmiyor… Kapitalizm sadece insanın değil, doğanın da düşmanıdır… Sadece insanı üretmek ve yaşamak için gerekli araçlardan mahrum etmiyor, işsiz ve aç bırakmıyor, doğayı da tahrip ediyor, yaşamın temelini aşındırarak yol alıyor…
Kapitalizm dahilinde savaş istisna değil, kuraldır… Her kapitalist işletme varlığını büyümeye borçludur. Başka türlü söylersek, büyüme veya yok olma ikilemi söz konusudur… Vahşi rekabet koşullarında varlığını sürdürmek, büyümek de daha çok işçiyi daha çok sömürmekle, daha çok doğal kaynağa el koymakla mümkündür… Hiçbir sermayedar (kapitalist), bana bu kadar yeter, burada durayım diyemez, durursa büyükler tarafından yutulur, yarış alanının dışına atılır…
Kapitalizm dahilinde asıl belirleyici olan ‘siyaset’ değil, ‘ekonomidir’… Bu, onun kapitalizm öncesi dönemin sosyal formasyonlardan, uygarlıklardan farkını oluşturur. Kapitalizm dahilinde savaşlar ekonomik belirleyiciliğin bir gereği olarak tezahür ediyor. Gerçi, “savaş siyasetin başka araçlarla sürdürülmesidir” denmiştir ama orada gözden kaçan, dikkate alınmayan bir şey var: Kapitalizm dahilinde ilişkinin yönü ‘ekonomiden siyasete’ doğrudur… Siyaset ekonomiyi değil, ekonomi siyaseti belirliyor… Tekno-kapitalizm dahilinde savaş, sürekli ticari savaşın başka araçlarla sürdürülmesidir… Kapitalist devlet ihtiyaca göre düşman yaratır ve gereğini yapar… Aynı ihtiyaca göre müşteriyi yarattığı gibi… Emperyalistler için savaş, sermayenin etki alanını genişletmenin aracıdır… Sermaye büyümekte zorlandığında, özellikle de ‘yapısal kriz’ durumunda ve doğal kaynaklara ulaşmak zorlaştığında, askerî şiddet (savaş), ekonomik şiddetin yerini alır…
Jean Jaurès’in dediği gibi, savaş kapitalizme içerilmiştir zira kâra ve rekabete dayalıdır. Sürekli büyüme, etki alanını genişletme zorunluluğu var. Genişleme ve yayılma da rakipler aleyhine mümkün. Yıkıcı rekabet ortamında her kapitalist, her kapitalist işletme ileriye doğru kaçmak zorundadır… Bana bu kadarı yeter, burada durayım diyemez…İşçileri daha çok sömürmek, daha çok doğal kaynağa, enerji kaynağına sahip olmak, bunu da rakiplerinden önce yapmak zorundadır… Fakat, ne kadar hileci yöntemlere başvursa da şiddete başvuramaz, zira şiddet tekeli, orduya ve polise sahip devlete mahsustur…
Kapitalist dünya sistemi hiyerarşik, pramidal bir yapı ve işleyişe sahiptir. Ulus-devletler hiyerarşisi söz konusudur ve hiyerarşinin tepesinde daima hegemonik emperyalist bir devlet bulunur… Onu ikinci, üçüncü büyüklükteki emperyalist devletler izler… İkinci emperyalistler arası savaş öncesinde İngiltere, savaş sonrasında da ABD tartışmasız hegemonik güçtü… Şimdilerde de yeni bir hegemonya krizi dönemindeyiz…
Sanıldığı ve iddia edildiği gibi savaşlar büyük idealler uğruna yapılmaz… Yeni sömürü alanlarına, yeni pazarlara, yeni topraklara ve enerji kaynaklarına ulaşmak için yapılır… Tabii savaş sadece rakipleri etkisizleştirmek için de yapılmaz, savaşlardan hiçbir çıkarı olmayan, asıl bedeli ödeyen işçi sınıfını ve sol muhalefeti etkisizleştirmenin de bir aracıdır… Böyle bir gerçeklik söz konusuyken de ‘barışçı olmanın’ bir kıymeti harbiyesi olamaz… Savaşa karşı olmak, savaşları durdurmak örgütlü işçi sınıfının, yeryüzünün lanetlilerinin, bir bütün olarak ezilen ve sömürülen sınıfların, politik mücadelesi ve müdahalesi olmadan mümkün değildir…
Savaş büyük yıkımlar demektir ve kapitalistler yıkarken de yıkılanı yeniden yaparken de kâr ederler, sermayelerini büyütürler… Zira savaş büyük insan kırımına, doğal kaynak ve alt-yapı tahribatına neden olur… Utanç verici olan bu durum, kapitalistler için yeni yatırım ve değerlenme olanakları demektir… Yıkılan her şey, işte, yollar, köprüler, tren yolları, konutlar, vb… yeniden inşa edilerek büyük kârlar sağlanır…
Doğası gereği savaş, emperyalizmin krizleri aşmanın bir aracıdır. Hasımlar aleyhine üretim temeli genişletilir. Yeniden büyümenin gerekli koşulları yaratılır… Her emperyalist güç kendi sınırları dahilinde işçi sınıfının mücadelesini geriletir… Savaştan önce içeriyi kıvama getirmek esastır… Savaş macerası milliyetçiliği pohpohlayarak meşrulaştırılır… Başta emperyalist savaşlar olmak çatışmaları sonlandırmak Komünist Manifesto’nun sloganının gereğini yapmakla mümkündür: “Bütün ülkelerin işçileri birleşin…”
Emperyalistler savaş için gerekçe üretmekte zorlanmazlar. Medya ve “konunun uzmanları”, gerekçe üretmekte çok başarılıdırlar… Son 25-30 yılda peydahlanan emperyalist savaşların asıl nedeni asla afişe edilen ‘nedenler’ değildi… Dün Irak’ın “kitle imha silahları yalanı” bugün İran’ın “nükleer silah” gerekçesi… Artık uluslararası hukukun hiçbir kıymet-i harbiyesi yok… İstedikleri ülkeye, istedikleri zaman savaş açıyorlar… Bir de ne demekse “uluslararası toplum” söylemi var… “Uluslararası toplumun” ne olduğunu merak mı ediyorsunuz? “Uluslararası toplum” demek, ABD, İngiltere, Fransa, Almanya, İtalya, Kanada… emperyalist kamp demektir… Kendileri çalıp, kendileri oynuyorlar…
Öyleyse işe kapitalizmi sorun ederek başlamak gerekiyor… Şeylerin gerçeğiyle yüzleşebilmenin başka yolu yok! İkinci Dünya Savaşı sonrası yıllarda Paris’te bir ‘dünya yazarlar kongresi’ toplanıyor. Kürsüye çıkan her yazar, dünya barışından, dayanışmadan, kardeşlikten söz ediyor… Harika şair Bertholt Brecht dayanamıyor, kürsüye yürüyor, mikrofonu kapıyor: “Yoldaşlar, gelin üretim ilişkilerini (kapitalizmi) tartışalım” diyor… Ben de artık sadede gelelim diyorum…
