Jesus’ response to the scribe’s devout statement, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go,” is unclear. However, Church Fathers offer insights.

Jesus neither accepts nor rejects the scribe’s proposal. Instead, He clarifies what it means to follow Him. Some suggest the scribe desired rewards, as Jesus was a miracle worker, gaining popularity and potential leadership. This internal motivation is questionable.

Jesus’ response removes misconceptions. If the scribe wanted to follow Jesus, he must be prepared for poverty and homelessness, not riches and possessions. Jesus wanted clarity on the choice.

Jesus invites the scribe to follow Him, but only with this new knowledge. He emphasizes that following Jesus won’t result in earthly riches but in earthly poverty.

Why do you follow Jesus? Consider your motivations. Some follow Him because they were raised to, others because it makes them feel better, and others because they think it’ll improve their lives. But what’s the ideal motivation? It’s simple: we follow Him because He’s the Son of God and Savior of the World. Jesus invites us to live in union with Him through faith. So, we follow Him because it’s right. Love doesn’t love for benefits, Jesus is worthy of our love and worship because of Who He is.

Reflect on Jesus inviting you to follow Him into poverty, detachment, simplicity, and sacrifice. Do you understand what it means to be a follower of Christ? Can you follow Jesus for selfish reasons? Saying “Yes” to Him means saying “Yes” to His Cross. Ponder Jesus’ life and decide if you’re willing to follow Him to the poverty of the Cross. If you choose to follow Him, knowing what you’re saying “Yes” to, you’ll share in His resurrected life.

Israel attacks Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in central Gaza

About an hour ago, the Israeli military targeted the courtyard of Al-Aqsa Hospital. There was a huge explosion.

The army didn’t issue any warnings before it struck tents housing displaced people. Rescue operations are taking place by Civil Defence workers.

The hospital’s administrative office was also hit by three grenades dropped by Israeli quadcopter drones.

I personally know people with relatives in the United States, or Americans living in Finland. It's shocking to realize that as a precaution when traveling to certain states, you now need to ensure you have proof (like family photos on your phone) and remove all instant messaging and message history containing critical posts about Vance or Trump, just to avoid potentially being treated as an illegal alien.

USA has become a fascist country. I'll likely never travel there, unfortunately. It feels too unsafe.

It's ironic that I traveled to Israel back in 2019 and felt safer there, despite only experiencing a few interviews due to having an Israeli name and family friends living in the country.

Previously I've said that coding with #LLMs is more helpful when you're doing something you don't know much about, but much less helpful when you have expertise in what you're doing.

I've changed my mind on that.. yes the LLM seems to give a working and helpful solution, but that's because I didn't know what I was doing.

BUT as time goes on I just found that one such solution it gave me was dangerously wrong!

It's probably best NEVER to trust an LLM, ESPECIALLY if you're doing something new.

Talk to me about sandwich fillings.

I pretty much always have salami, cheese, tomato and lettuce. I occasionally mix things up with ham instead of salami, and the two are pretty much the only thing in my diet that count as UPFs.

What could I have instead? There are those packs of precooked chicken and beef slices, but they’re expensive and presumably also full of chemical preservatives. I guess I could buy a beef joint and cook/slice/freeze it, but even by my standards that seems like a faff.

(I’m not after elaborate stuff like Philly steak or fried chicken caesar, just stuff I can take out of the fridge and slap on a slice of bread.)

Why FIAB SegrateCiclabile opened an account on Mastodon (English translation)

Premise


FIAB Segrateciclabile is a local association, promoting cycling as a mean of transport, part of a national FIAB association. What follows is the translation of an Italian post where we share with members of the association why we opened an account on Mastodon (we already have Facebook an IG). I though it would be interesting to share in thos space, since I think this kind of associations should all be on the fediverse, as their values usually align much better than those of X, Facebook etc.

FIAB SegrateCiclabile recently opened an account on Mastodon @FIABSegrateCiclabile@mastodon.uno where we share events and news from our FIAB Ciclobby section.

What is Mastodon ?


Mastodon is a social network similar to Twitter, but with different principles. Users only see posts from those who follow, in chronological order, without ads. Unlike Twitter or Facebook, Mastodon is part of a larger network (called Fediverse) composed of many connected servers (called instances). Anyone can open one and be part of it, creating a decentralized environment. This means that no one can control everything, as it does with the big platforms.

What does Mastodon have in common with sustainable mobility?


Mastodon and the Fediverse share values with cycling and sustainable mobility, as they arise from grassroots with the aim of solving the structural problems of mainstream solutions.

Freedom and Inclusion


Unlike traditional social media, Mastodon does not require personal data to access content. It promotes an inclusive environment, where hate speech is not tolerated. FIAB is committed to a mobility accessible to all, not only to those who own a car, a driver’s license and the ability and the economic possibility of using it.

Community and Participation


Those who ride a bicycle have a deeper connection with their surroundings. The car isolates, while the bike favors genuine interactions. In the Fediverse, users can connect authentically, with no algorithms that manipulate their choices.

Democracy of the Spaces


The Fediverse represents a reaction to the commercialization of the Internet, giving control back to users. Likewise, FIAB fights to give public space back to people, not cars.

Conclusion


In an era dominated by large corporations, it is essential to enhance digital spaces like Mastodon. These instruments promote freedom of expression, inclusion and democracy, reflecting FIAB. We invite everyone to explore Mastodon and join a community that values genuine connections.

Freedom and democracy must exist in both physical and digital spaces.
