It's Google!

Coming to steal your water and electricity. Coming to destroy your community. And there's nothing you can do about it. Google does all these secret deals with politicians. You're not allowed to know about the tax breaks. You're not allowed to know how much public water Google is using. It's all top secret.

Google: Be evil!

The World’s Largest Floating Dry Dock Was Towed Across the Atlantic to Bermuda in 1869 -

When Britain needed a solution for ship repairs in the Atlantic, engineers in the 1860s built the largest floating dry dock ever attempted, a 380-foot iron structure weighing over 8,000 tons.

Constructed near Woolwich on the Thames, the dock was designed to lift 10,000-ton ironclads like HMS Warrior and withstand the fouling threats of Bermuda’s warm waters.

Unable to build a conventional dry dock due to porous sandstone, the British opted for mobility and scale, creating a self-contained U-shaped platform that could sink and raise vessels from the sea with ballast compartments and powerful pumps.

In June 1869, this massive dock embarked on a nearly 4,000-nautical-mile journey to Bermuda, towed in stages by Britain’s heaviest ironclads—Agincourt, Northumberland, Warrior, and Black Prince—assisted by HMS Terrible.

With closed ends to reduce drag and a sail rigged inside to capture tailwinds, the voyage reached speeds of over 6 knots.

Once in service, it supported Royal Navy operations for over thirty years before being replaced in 1906.

Looks really interesting. #Misogyny/GBV the underlying common trait of perpetrators of actual terrorism.

Glorification of assertive, dominant males is the 💯 opposite of the sexual selection processes that made us #Homosapiens. That was not how we got here today.

'As a researcher looking at digital extremism and gender-based violence, I’ve analyzed more than 100 manifestos written by people who carried out mass shootings, stabbings, vehicular attacks and other acts of ideologically, politically and religiously motivated violent extremism in Canada, the United States and beyond.

These attackers may not belong to formal terrorist organizations, but their writings reveal consistent ideological patterns. Among them, one stands out: misogyny.'

Tessa Hulls's debut graphic novel is *Feeding Ghosts*, a stunning memoir that tells the story of three generations of her Chinese family. It was a decade in the making, and it is utterly, unmissably brilliant:

in reply to Hackaday (unofficial)

Apparently, the proposed new law prohibits claiming that an image or video is not a fake when it really is. That should already be covered by laws against fraud. It's hard to see how copyright is relevant at all. I think maybe the Guardian and Hackaday both misunderstand what copyright is.

Copyright is not a prohibition against claiming that a photograph is of something it's not. It is also not a prohibition against claiming that something that is not a photograph is a photograph. It is not even presenting someone else's work as your own. That's plagiarism.

Copyright is making copies of works without the permission of the copyright holder.

If you own copyright to your face, that means that no one else can make faces identical to yours.

Copyright to a photograph of someone is owned by the photographer.

So, once again, my guess is that the Danish law either requires that you identify images that are not photographs as not photographs, or that you have to get a person's permission to photograph a person before photographing. I think the former is more likely.

In both the Guardian and Hackaday article, using the word "copyright" hopelessly muddies the issue.

Bad journalism!
