I was just thinking about that today. When the weather is stormy, wet and freezing cold and we worry our homes might be washed or blown away, there are birds trying to keep their eggs or young warm and safe in those same conditions, but considerably more difficult.

I hate to break it to you, that's your fault for making an assumption (and a bold one at that) or you're just quite naive. Most places that you sign up for will either have you agree to a Terms of Service, or they'll make you agree to the rules. I have even more bad news for you: Advertisements usually try their best to show only the "good" of what is being advertised (such as how an advertisement for a toy doesn't usually make it very clear that batteries are required to use it).

No, they might be angry that their comment was removed, but it's a pretty common understanding that moderators will remove content at their discretion, even if people don't necessarily agree with the decision.
I'm not sure why I'm even engaging in this, usually it's pretty clear when someone gets upset that their "free speech" (that they were never entitled to) is being violated that their intent is to spread hateful content.
Perhaps that isn't you, but nonetheless that is the group you're putting yourself in (even if unintentionally) whenever you ride under that banner.
It would also be worthwhile double checking what actual "Freedom of Speech" is and what it covers. Assuming you are referring to the US' first amendment, it has absolutely nothing to do with anyone other than you and the government (and even then it has its bounds).
As an example, let's say you're a writer for a newspaper. The government cannot take down an article that you write in which you criticize them (because that would fall under protected speech, unless you are making direct threats towards someone), but your boss could absolutely say "No way, we're not publishing that" as they are not a government official.
This doesn't even just include "Freedom of Speech", as another example, with the right to assembly you can publicly assemble and protest the government - but it wouldn't allow you to start a protest on someone's private property.

Most terms of service are very similar and are broken down into categories usually. Finding the content and privacy sections doesn’t take long and once you read a few they all become easier to understand.

Recently switched a system from arch to tumbleweed. After another required manual update intervention. So far I quite like it. Today I visited the Meffan Museum and Gallery in Forfar. It houses a pretty good collection of Pictish stones from around the area, including some from the old churchyard at Kirriemuir. Some of the middling to later day Pictish stones incorporate crosses and biblical figures and saints.
They also have a carved stone ball in their collection. These take a variety of forms and nobody knows what they're for either. I've seen a bunch on my travels including a good number from way up in the Orkneys.
Would have liked to get up to Meigle to see their collection of stones as it is supposed to be a good one, but I'd have to backtrack to Perth to get a bus I think. There is another good collection at Aberlemno, so I'll probably go and see those instead.

@HarriettMB Sounds like it would have been a good location. A lot of castles were very smartly positioned, like they carefully surveyed the landscape all around and figured out the best spot for observation, defensive advantage, water supply, etc. Really neat to go to someplace like Mull and travel around the waterways and realize how all the castles were in site of each other for signalling purposes.
That one of the O’Neills has a really interesting and complex history. There’s very little of the original castle left now, but loads of information. we had friends here a couple of days ago, and Anne used to be the Conservation Officer, so told us loads of the story. We went to see it today, and to visit Pomeroy Woods not too far away. In Co Meath there’s the hill of Tara which has similar huge views of much our the country, and almost in a straight line south again, there is the Rock of Cashel similarly situated. Back in the days of Kings in Ireland these three locations controlled a vast amount of the country.
I didn't get to Tara, unfortunately. Did get to the Rock of Cashel and yes, it is quite a view. Imagine it was even more from up top of the round tower and the cathedral/bishop's tower.
The history of the O'neills and O'Donnells in the Nine Years' War and the subsequent Flight of the Earls is a really interesting part of Irish history and I really enjoyed reading about it. I probably just need to get a book on that specifically at some point.

After finishing up in Forfar, I headed to Glamis Castle. It is pronounced something like Glamz. In its earliest days, it was just a royal hunting lodge, which over time became a walled enclosure with some building inside and possibly a moat. It sits at the confluence of two burns, so water offers some possible protection here.
The Lyons family got possession of the land in I think 1372 and in ~1404 began construction of a substantial L-plan tower house. Early 1400's towers tend to be MUCH THICKER and the walls are as much as 3 meters thick. I wish I could show you, but they don't allow photography inside.
Additional wings were added over time and the L plan part of the tower built up several additional stories with much addition of Scots Baronial features as the centuries progressed. Today it looks like this:
It's one of the grander structures where the castle's much humbler beginnings are still recognizable in the stonework. Today, it's quite palatial inside. The Lyons married the heiress to the Bowes family coal mining fortune in the late 18th century and money became somewhat of an irrelevancy for a while. The fortune was something like a million pounds in the late 18th century, which is probably more like billions today.
The money did come with a catch, though. The Bowes patriarch didn't want the family name to die out with him, so the Lyons changed their name to Bowes or Bowes-Lyons. The present Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne is the 19th to hold the title. His personal arms look something like the following.
The present Earl appears to be a real nasty fellow, having a number of driving offenses, Covid violations and a sexual assault of a woman at the castle bad enough to land him in prison for a spell. Had I known this in advance, I would have gone elsewhere, as the castle is still in private ownership and the admission fees presumably line his coffers. He appears to still live on site in a wing that isn't part of the tour.
The guide makes no mention of any of this other than to note that the present aarl is related to King Charles III as his second cousin once removed, so I guess the royal family has another sex pest, I guess.
The reason they're related is that Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, who grew up at Glamis Castle, married Prince Albert of York. He would go on to rule as George VI after his elder brother abdicated the throne and she would become known as the Queen Mother or Queen Mum and love to the ripe old age of 102. She would give birth to Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth II's only sibling, at Glamis.
Besides the castle itself, which features very palatial interiors, the estate is quite nice, with large expansive lawns, long walls, plenty of interesting statuary and something like three formal gardens.
I stayed pretty close to the castle, so didn't get to explore the grounds much, as there was no bus schedule posted and didn't want to get caught out, with only one little minibus on route 125 servicing the area (It had picked me up at least 20 minutes late).
I did stop to see the 17th century Doocot on the property, which has nesting boxes for around 800 birds. It was on the long walk in from the small village of Glamis, which existed historically mostly to service the needs of the estate.
The castle did feature defensive elements back in its L-plan days and there are a number of gun ports in evidence both from the outside and in. There are heavily barred windows and the main door has a Yett behind it (which I couldn't take pictures of because the earl wants to sell photo books at the gift shop).

Responding to the call of the anti-fascist days of actions (20-22 June), of antifa Maja T. who has been on hunger strike since 5/6 in Hungarian prisons, we send our own signal of solidarity to their struggle. Two years ago, during the day of honor (anniversary of the mass extermination of Hungarian and German Nazis in 1945), where a fascist rally-march takes place in Budapest, where hundreds of neo-Nazis and fascists gather. In response to this call, anti-fascists from Europe have decided to return to them some of the violence they produce.
The far-right Hungarian government began a series of arrests, openly supporting the fascists, with inflated indictments of criminal organizations and inhumane conditions of confinement. Other European states cooperated with each other, engaging in a series of deportations and persecutions. Germany played a leading role in characterizing the German anti-fascists persecuted by the Hungarian state as dangerous criminals, culminating in the overnight extradition of Maja T. Many of the people involved chose to go underground, refusing to surrender their freedom in the hands of either the German or the Hungarian state. One of these people was Maja T. until their arrest and extradition.
We are going through a period of vertical rise of the far right and nationalism in the West. More and more people are turning to fascist and nationalist formations. The incompetence of the left and the retreat of the revolutionary movements left room for all kinds of fascist formations to develop and expand their audience. A disappointed audience that found in its face the anti-systemism it was looking for.
Fascism and nationalism have always been the other side of systemism. Especially in times of crisis, when neoliberalism is rotting, fascism emerges as a solution to the problem. The narrative of the national core, racial superiority and the necessity of militarization is used. Militant anti-fascism is the only solution to this problem. We have no illusions about the education of the descendants of the blackshirts, nor do we obviously seek their imprisonment. After all, fascism is crushed in the streets.
Defending anti-fascism, Maja T found themself imprisoned in Hungarian prisons in conditions of extreme isolation. Conditions that led them to embank their own body, starting a hunger strike from 5/6. From our own cell, the least we can do is stand by it, sending strength and solidarity.

Scariest part: 472 Starlinks were burned up in the atmosphere in Dec-May. Assuming each satellite is 800kg, and 50% aluminum by mass, that's 1 ton of aluminum PER DAY.
The natural infall rate of aluminum from meteoroids is 0.3 tons per day. Starlink has been ~3x that, for the last 6 months.
Kessler Syndrome update: They report 144,000 collision avoidance maneuvers across the whole constellation in Dec-May. That's about one maneuver every 2 minutes.
Every 2 minutes there's a chance for a mistake that would lead to a very bad day in orbit. And as this paper shows (with Dr. Kessler himself as a co-author!), a very bad day at that altitude would lead to a runaway collisional cascade. Seemingly for the first time, the Bazzite gaming-focused Linux distro has appeared on the Steam Hardware Survey. Well done to the Bazzite team for making such an amazing distro for gaming (and now just general usage as a while too)! Been my main choice for going on a year now for my general use distro, and I haven't looked back.

The state of remote working with Wayland is, well, lackluster to put it kindly. And with Sway, it's quite abysmal.
Here is my solution to remote my Sway desktop at work and make it persistent so it survives network outages. This is not the perfect solution, probably, but it works for me.
A few prerequisites
You need a dedicated remote account. It's generally a good idea regardless of whether you use Wayland or X11 to have a main account and a secondary remote account if you don't want to work with the same desktop locally and remotely. The reason is, your local desktop settings can differ significantly from the remote desktop settings (for instance, if you work with 2 high-res monitors locally but on a small laptop screen remotely) so a unique set of settings may not work well in both cases.
Also, unless you log out of the local and remote sessions religiously after you're done, you're likely to run both sessions at the same time at some point. If you do, you may run more than one instance of the same utilities, which tend to overwrite one another's temporary files, caches and such, and generally creating a mess.
So it's much cleaner to have a separate main account and remote account, with adequate permissions to access files in one from the other, and run two separate desktops.
To remote a Sway desktop, you'll use VNC. It's not great but that's the only option at the moment.
My solution below is reasonably secure if you're the only user on your machine, or if the other local users aren't adversarial. If they are, you'll use a Unix socket or enable authentication in Wayvnc for extra security (see Final note below), which works fine, but is incompatible with Remmina. And I happen to like Remmina 🙂 So I didn't. I'm a low-risk target but do what works best for you.
If there are more than one user doing remote work on the machine, each one will need to be assigned their own VNC port. Again, it's not great, but Wayland makes doing anything else with the existing tools exceedingly painful.
Setup
The idea is to: - SSH into the remote machine and create a tunnel from the remote machine's VNC port corresponding to the particular remote user (if you're the only one, 5900 most likely) to a local port on your local machine. - Upon connection through SSH, start Sway headless in a persistent manner (meaning the Sway session doesn't get killed if the ssh connection dies). - Make Sway start Wayvnc to expose the headless display through VNC. - On the local machine, connect to the local end of the SSH tunnel to connect to the remote Wayvnc server.
Required software packages
On the remote machine
tmux: this is a screen-like terminal multiplexer that allows sessions to remain open even if the terminal underneath disappears.
sway obviously...
wayvnc: that's the Wayland VNC server
On the local machine, install:
ssh: the SSH client
Any VNC viewer
Configuration of the remote machine
Add a user called <your_main_username>-remote for example.
In the remote user's account, configure:

Create a start_persistent_sway_headless.sh script to start Sway and Wayvnc in a background tmux session if it doesn't exist already, and only exit when the Wayvnc server is ready to accept connections:

Manually:
To start Sway and Wayvnc on the remote machine, and create the VNC tunnel manually with SSH, do this in one terminal (the local end of the tunnel is port 35900 here):
Then to connect to the remote machine through the SSH tunnel manually, do this in another terminal:
$ vncviewer localhost:35900
With Remmina:
Final note
This setup is acceptable if you're the only user on the machine, or the other users are friendly folks, and your machine is secured!
The reason for this is, when Wayvnc is running without authentication, malevolent local users can freely connect to your session and take over your remote desktop.
There are two ways around that, but neither is compatible with Remmina.
Use a Unix socket instead of a TCP port to serve up VNC on the remote machine. To do this:
Remove ~/.config/wayvnc and replace the Wayvnc startup line in the remote user's Sway config file with:

Replace the content of ~/scripts/start_persistent_sway_headless.sh with:

Then to start the SSH tunnel manually to tunnel the remote Unix socket to the local TCP port, do this:

This is more secure because the socket file is only visible to your remote user on the remote machine, and not to other local users on the remote machine. Unfortunately Remmina doesn't know how to forward Unix sockets.
Enable TLS or AES authentication in .config/wayvnc/config as described here. Unfortunately, when authentication is enabled in Wayvnc, it's not possible to use just a username and password (which would be secure enough in a local context) and Remmina can't work with either forms of authentication offered by Wayvnc. Other VNC viewers like Tigervnc have no problem however.
Also, it means you have to enter your password again to log into VNC, so it's not great for automation.
