With only 500 letters to play with, I commend this summary from Monbiot.

Successive UK governments have sought to control and suppress protest, increasingly so as an ability to communicate without relying on commercial and state media has developed. ‘Our’ maladministration is not only continuing the trend but attempting to accelerate it.
Blurring the lines between terrorism and protest is a means to an end.

A new mural in France depicting Lady Liberty covering her face in shame was unveiled the day before America's Independence Day.

It makes sense when you consider that France is now a muslim nation and she must legally cover her face or be stoned.

If you create an electoral system that turns every vote into a question of "do you hate this guy or fear this guy more?", please do not act surprised when a very large number of people, after nearly a half-century of political games and theft from the public, are like "I hate both of them more than I fear either of them" and don't show up.

If you don't understand this, that's a *you* problem.

NO -

It's a you problem.

It's not my responsibility to fix your broken brain. Get to work.

Trump megabill gives the oil industry everything it wants and ends key support for solar and wind

"The law opens up federal lands and waters to oil and gas drilling [and] slashes the royalties that producers pay the government for pumping oil and gas on federal lands.

The coal industry is also a big winner from the law, which mandates at least 4 million additional acres of federal land be made available for mining."

#France and #Switzerland shut down #NuclearPower plants amid scorching #heatwave

By Euronews, Published on 02/07/2025

To cool down, nuclear power plants pump water from local rivers or the sea, which they then release back into water bodies at a higher temperature. However, this process can threaten local #biodiversity if water is released which is too hot.

Many in the US got a propaganda message from the Social Security Administration last night. It says, "The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation's economy." That sounds great, but I haven't seen any fact-checking on this email, and it seems that there will be zero benefit for the majority.

"There is something exceedingly ridiculous in the composition of Monarchy; it first excludes a man from the means of information, yet empowers him to act in cases where the highest judgment is required. The state of a king shuts him from the World, yet the business of a king requires him to know it thoroughly; wherefore the different parts, by unnaturally opposing and destroying each other, prove the whole character to be absurd and useless."

You Don’t Need Privacy Tools. You Need Balls.

Stop hiding behind apps. Start showing up with intent.
Everyone wants the privacy stack.
The best phone. The hardened browser. The encrypted email.
They ask, “What VPN should I use?”
Wrong question.

You want safety without confrontation.
You want to be private without being inconvenienced.
You want to cloak your data, but not change your behavior.

That’s not privacy. That’s performance art.

Just so you know where my skill level is for #soldering repairs…
I probably spent longer than any ration people trying to de-solder the relay and wondering why nothing was reaching temperature UNTIL i decide to snip off the relay that was absorbing all the heat.

My dinky soldering gun was a probably a contributing factor.

I need a soldering bootcamp with hands on experience with real tools.

in reply to Paul Will Gamble

If it helps - I’ve got a blog post on my site about getting started with soldering containing my recommendations on tools and videos to learn (been soldering for several years both as a part of my job and on hobby projects).

Brazil’s #COP30 chief André Corrêa do Lago insists that ramping up oil and gas production is perfectly compatible with fighting climate change, because, apparently, fossil fuels and global warming are best friends now.

Meanwhile, Brazil’s state oil giant Petrobras is planning one of the world’s biggest oil production surges.

How better to showcase climate leadership than by doubling down on oil drilling.

Mayor Wu kicked off her extended Fourth of July weekend not by addressing payroll chaos at City Hall — but by blasting Donald Trump.

In a sharply worded statement released Thursday, Wu denounced Trump’s “so-called Big Beautiful Bill,” accusing him of targeting Boston families while giving “massive tax cuts to billionaires.”

in reply to YoungBlood

Wu specifically framed the bill as a threat to her climate agenda, warning that Trump’s plan would gut clean energy programs that are “powering the region’s economy.”

City of Boston Employees Left Without Pay on July 4th Weekend

Mayor Wu’s Trump statement came just hours before the City shut down for the long weekend — and with paychecks missing, her critics say she appeared more focused on national headlines than local responsibility.

A breeding-age female only has a few things to offer: looks, character and an unused vagina.

If she lets rando men splooge in her, because in the final analysis, boyfriends are merely rando men, long after females grow up, she becomes akin to a low-value, used car.

A female of character does not engage in rando sex, esteems herself, pursues self-development to elevate herself, does not defile her body in any way.

in reply to John Gritt

@relentless_eduardo

If you believe it is fine to swive rando guys until the right one comes along, then you are forced to believe that a female working as a prostitute or in porn like Bonnie Blue or Lily Philips swiving 101 men in 24 hours is equally fine, the same, and an option for oneself or one's daughters or granddaughters.

A difference in degree does not create a difference in kind.

in reply to John Gritt

"A female of character does not engage in rando sex, esteems herself, pursues self-development to elevate herself, does not defile her body in any way."

we have a collection of value judgements here, which rely, among other defects, on circular logic.

e.g.
- "esteems herself", as if having rando sex implied or necessitated a lack of self-esteem
which also relies on the very shaky meaning of self esteem.
- "self-development" need not contradict either rando sex or prostitution,

Nick Fuentes of America First likes the Big Beautiful Bill because it contains $150 billion for border security and to build a wall between us and Mexico.

But there is one thing no one is talking about: Trump had to do a Backroom Deal to get the bill passed: He agreed to Amnesty for millions of illegal alien workers.

Fuentes explains what happened beginning at 4:20:31 of this video.

Why is the United Nations not doing more to stop the starvation in Gaza?

The UN Security Council will not intervene in Gaza, writes a former UN staffer. This does not mean that UN member states cannot.

Who will?
