Hi there, I've got these really odd issue where certain windows will cause random lines like the one in the screenshot appear on my screen. They will often flicker a bit and will dissapear if I hover my mouse over them. The lines will display what is beneath the window itself. These occour quite frequently and are frankly getting quite annoying to deal with.
Is this a known issue with KDE right now? It does not happen while using Gnome on the same machine + screen. If it matters I am running CachyOS.

Last night at ICE in Portland was another munition heavy night and lots of violence from federal agents. Teargas filled the neighborhood with canister after canister being shot. Green and white smoke continuously filled the air. Pepper balls shot at protesters close range. Masks ripped off so the feds could mace people. Someone else was hospitalized by the brutality of the federal agents yet again.
I know these nights are scary. I know how bad these munitions and chemicals hurt and burn in the moment and that the pain and side effects can be even worse later. It’s all around bad. The thing is though it’s already very bad and scary without making things up or falsely attributing certain munitions as something that they are not.
The green smoke (same with the red when they choose to use it) that they use at ICE here, which they also used plenty in 2020 and 2021, is just green smoke. When I say “just” I don’t mean to imply that it is good for our bodies in any way, or that it isn’t toxic, because it is. These military style smoke grenades contain heavy metals and lead salts known to cause cancer and birth defects. But people keep calling it various types of gasses that it is *not*. HC gas being a big one people have been saying is what it is and that is not true.
We don’t have to pretend this smoke is something that it’s not to draw attention to how bad this chemical warfare is. Their violence and heavy handed use of chemical weapons speaks for itself. It’s already bad enough. Every single thing they do is already bad enough.
I know the green smoke looks intense because of how vibrant the color is. But there is a huge difference, and if HC gets used again, I promise you will know. This rumor isn’t just online, it often gets spread by people on the ground before anyone else. And I don’t think there is any ill intent with people doing this, but words have meaning. Facts matter.
A lot of this misinformation started in 2020. The first time they used HC gas then, feds deployed a canister and immediately lit a green smoke grenade and set it off in front of the HC. They used the green smoke to obscure the HC gas, and when it finished going off, the feds retrieved the HC gas canister and took it while leaving the green smoke one out. They were intentionally trying to make people think that the green smoke was what was being used. they didn't want anyone to know they were using HC and so it began being attributed to the green smoke.
Footage showing the canister burning, and comparison to canisters from other nights that took place after this night, is how it was later confirmed on that night they used HC gas. HC smoke burns a dark grey color, sometimes yellowish depending on how close to the canister the smoke you’re observing is. The canisters for HC remain on fire, often with flames shooting out of the top, and the canister itself is so hot you’ll see it glowing brightly the entire time it is lit.
HC is not like other common teargas used (OC and CS) which are bad enough on their own. When I said you would know… each time I’ve been otg when HC was used, well I’m not sure I even have the words to describe how bad it was. Thick clouds of smoke all around, usually from a combination of gas and smoke. People to my left and right either vomiting or completely losing consciousness. People all around ripping their full face gas masks off for reprise from the suffocation after the chemicals penetrated their masks and destroyed their filters. People’s limp bodies being carried out by street medics all around me. There was no eye flushing, at least not in the immediate vicinity where there was still gas. Medics and people who were well enough to help others would just be trying to get as many people away and out of there as fast as possible.

"An assistant early childhood educator in Florianópolis, Brazil, has been taken into custody after multiple children alleged that he sexually abused them. Allec Sander de Oliveira Ribeiro, 34, worked at the Nossa Senhora de Lourdes Center for Municipal Childhood Education and was known for his vocal support of progressive causes.
On July 1, the Civil Police of Santa Catarina arrested Ribeiro following a month-long investigation into reports of sexual abuse at a local daycare. The probe began in June, after several parents reported that their children had disclosed abuse. According to the parents, the children had exhibited troubling behavioral changes in the lead-up to their disclosures. Authorities notified the Municipal Secretariat of Education, which suspended Ribeiro from his position on June 5.
Police subsequently raided Ribeiro’s home and searched his electronic devices, uncovering more than 6,000 files containing child sexual abuse material. Investigators say many of the files appear to have been produced by Ribeiro himself. Some of the victims were identified as Ribeiro’s students, and there was material that had been recorded on the daycare premises. Officers also discovered three additional hard drives concealed in his home; the total number of illicit files is now estimated to exceed 10,000.
According to Jornal Razão, several of Ribeiro’s students have been formally named as victims, the oldest being just six years old. All known victims are male. The abuse is believed to have occurred during the head teacher’s lunch break, when Ribeiro had unsupervised access to the classroom and children.

One mother, who spoke with Clic Espumoso, said her son, who is autistic, attended Nossa Senhora de Lourdes from the age of one and remained there for four years. After being placed in Ribeiro’s class, however, the child’s behavior changed dramatically. He began routinely exposing himself, imitating inappropriate gestures, and avoiding physical contact with adults – especially men.
“He didn’t want to enter that classroom anymore. He said he didn’t want to go to daycare. It started happening more and more often,” the mother told Clic Espumoso. She raised her concerns with the head teacher overseeing Ribeiro’s class, who reportedly shared similar suspicions and took steps to reduce the time Ribeiro spent alone with the children.
“I’m not sure if he photographed my son. But I think he did. And if he did that… let him pay. Because my son didn’t deserve this. No child does,” she added, noting that police are currently investigating whether her son appears in any of the abusive material found on Ribeiro’s devices.
Investigators have also uncovered messages on Ribeiro’s devices indicating that he anticipated eventual complaints from children and sought to preemptively dismiss them as a “mania.”
Jornal Razão reports that Ribeiro was known as a supporter of progressive causes, and displayed both the LGBT and trans pride flags on his social media accounts, where he also frequently posted popular cartoon characters and references to youth media. Journalist Lorran Barentin described this as a “possible strategy to mask criminal conduct.”

Their claims about push notifications on Android compared to iOS are completely false. Both Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) and the Apple Push Notification service (APNs) function in a similar way with similar privacy. However, Android does not force using FCM and apps can use other push systems.
iOS forces uses Apple services including getting apps through Apple where they have a record of which apps each person and account has installed and using their push notification service. Both FCM and APNs have tokens. Android doesn't allow apps to access device IDs. Push tokens aren't device IDs.

Here Is What Is aA Done Deal:
You can’t uninstall it. Gemini is baking itself in to your operating system, it is no longer an app.
You can’t block its access completely. Disabling permissions only disables visible functions you see. It's invasive background data analysis continues.
You can’t opt out if you use any part of the Google ecosystem. If you use Chrome, Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, or Play Store, you’re already giving it permission to spy on your life. Find alternates to these services if you don't want vacuumed.
What You Can Do:
If your phone still gives you a choice, don't accept the Gemini switchover. But know this: most newer Androids won't ask, you won't even see it happen.
Once updated, turn off as many permissions as possible in your Settings. Especially anything related to voice input, camera, location, and clipboard access. Not just Google apps too.
Use alternate apps for messaging, browsing, and email. DuckDuckGo, Brave, ProtonMail, etc. will help limit exposure.
Minimize your Google account usage. Remove Google accounts from secondary devices, or switch to a de-Googled phone if you’re really serious.

Final Word
The integration of AI into your most personal device without informed consent, without transparency, and without full control, is not a feature. I believe it to be a major violation of privacy. You shouldn't have to be a tech wizard to keep your personal information safe and out of corporate hands! This is going to become a much bigger topic in our life in the immediate future as we are transitioned whether we want to be or not, into the era of AI.

Step 1: Don’t Tap “Upgrade” or “Switch” If prompted. If your phone still gives you a prompt to replace Google Assistant with Gemini on the 7th, do not accept it. Tap “No thanks” or “Keep Assistant.” But be aware: on many devices as of July 7, this choice may no longer appear at all.
Step 2: Check Your Default Assistant Setting after the update....
Go to: Settings → Apps → Default Apps → Digital Assistant App If Gemini is listed, try switching it back to “Google Assistant” or “None.” Not all phones will allow this anymore, depending on your update level.
Step 3: Turn Off Personalization and Activity Sharing Go to: Settings → Google → Manage Your Google Account → Data & Privacy Scroll to “Web & App Activity,” “Location History,” and “YouTube History”—turn them all off. This limits what Gemini can learn.
Step 4: Disable Gemini-Specific Features (If Available) Some phones now have a Gemini Settings section. If it exists, open it and turn off every toggle you find—especially those for “Contextual Awareness,” “Message Access,” and “Phone Controls.”
Step 5: Use Alternative Apps for Sensitive Tasks Avoid Google services when possible. Use:

Head_of_the_Dead · 12h (edited) Even if you're using a "dumb phone" all your messages sent to a modern phone are recorded by the receiving phone's system and both of your providers. Even when you turn your mic off, their phones listen. Even if you have no phone, Google and multiple other companies have a voice print of you and other's phones pick up and monitor your in-person conversations.
Most people's security cameras are connected to the Internet and will tie into a centralized database. Self checkouts are now doing facial recognition, so paying in cash isn't all that anonymous. Most any keyboard on a smart phone logs what you type and syncs it with Google, Apple etc, even if a message isn't sent. Your phone registers your unique gate. Phones register other nearby devices via NFC and other antennas. There's license plate readers everywhere.
Even when I go around with nothing electric on me, I'll get suggestions/ads from my conversations with people in public, once I'm home..
It's becoming more of a dystopian surveillance state by the second.

It is sad to say, but similar floods have carried away Christian campers in years past. Do they rely on Jesus to protect campers, and chalk up the flood deaths to God’s will when they inevitably happen, maybe adding that victims are now in a better place? The attached article includes one of the worst public statements I’ve read so far:
“This is the most dangerous river valley in the United States, and we deal with floods on a regular basis – when it rains, we get water,” [County Judge Rob] Kelly said. “We had no reason to believe this was going to be anything like what has happened here, none whatsoever.”
Kelly had no reason to anticipate such an event in the “most dangerous river valley in the U.S.” even though previous floods have claimed many lives? Why was a camping trip for 750 girls held in this flood plain? Why do parents let their children attend such camps? What kind of safety regulations apply to organizers of such camps?
This is the kind of tragedy that can happen when public health and safety policies are based on wishful thinking and prayers instead of science. How many additional tragedies will result from anti-vaccine and other ludicrous policies pushed by ignoramuses. Some local officials have called this most recent flood a once-in-a-lifetime event and have said their efforts will continue until all victims are found. And, while it’s undoubtedly a onetime event for the dead, it belies the fact that a similar flood killed people just 30 miles north of Kerr County in Hays County several years ago and some victims were never found. People camping along that river, including some children whose bodies were never recovered, were washed away in floodwaters. So, despite statements from Governor Greg Abbott and others to the contrary, the remains of some victims of this Guadalupe River flood will probably never be found. Speculation after the previous Blanco River flood was that their bodies were buried deep in the mud and river sediments displaced by the floodwaters.

El presidente de la Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, ha recibido este sábado un baño de masas durante la segunda jornada del XXI Congreso Nacional que el PP celebra en Madrid para lanzar a Alberto Núñez Feijóo a la conquista de la Moncloa.
Con todo, este viernes fue aplaudido y agasajado por la dirección. Este sábado, Mazón se ha fotografiado con decenas de personas, incluida la delegación completa del PPCV (ver imagen principal de la información). Mazón está en el centro de la imagen. A su derecha, el nuevo secretario general del partido, mano derecha de Feijóo, Miguel Tellado. Al fondo, el diputado por Castellón y expresidente de la Generalitat accidental Alberto Fabra.
El presidente del Gobierno valenciano se mostró eufórico cuando se hizo público el nombramiento de Tellado como nuevo secretario general de la formación en sustitución de Cuca Gamarra al asegurar que en los últimos meses ha sido la persona “que más cerca ha estado de la Comunitat estos meses”.
El baño de masas de este viernes se ha producido pocas semanas después de que Feijóo felicitara a Mazón en un acto celebrado en Alicante por su “buen trabajo” durante la reconstrucción y por la consecución de los presupuestos autonómicos pactados con Vox.
Un movimiento de Feijóo que, según sostienen algunas fuentes consultadas por este diario, responde a un pacto para garantizarse la fidelidad de los compromisarios de los populares valencianos, una genuflexión a cambio de apoyo por si a Madrid y Ayuso se les ocurría presentar una alternativa en el Congreso. Y es que la Comunitat Valenciana es la segunda en número de compromisarios con 389, solo por detrás de Andalucía, con 566.
La Asociación de Damnificados de l'Horta Sud-València recuerda que pusieron como condición a Mazón para ese encuentro la presencia de medios de comunicación durante la reunión, una petición que "desde el PP valenciano se ha considerado inasumible"
