I would love to be excited for season 2 of Sandman. I really loved season 1.
But I *cannot* deal with Neil Gaiman's shit.
I think it's almost easier to deal with a Lovecraft type, where you know you just need to grab whatever good bits are left after cropping out the racist bullshit. Gaiman's "progressive" messaging in his work makes it harder to deal with (even putting aside the additional complication that he's still alive to profit).
The parts of Gaiman's work that are most uncomfortable are the parts that on a surface-level appear to be "good". Knowing the lie, knowing that he uses power to sexually manipulate and control people, I cannot trust any of his work that ostensibly opposes that sort of behavior.
You can pillage the creativity of assholes like Lovecraft because you know any clever ideas they contain deserve better than languishing in bigoted literature. But what do you do when the work is supposed to be "good"?
I wasn't exactly shocked...like, after hearing the allegations, I definitely went "ohhh...that makes sense".
But it *sucks*. I loved Sandman the show and then because of the show I also loved the comics.
I don't think I will ever watch that show or read those comics again. Because it is *gross* seeing that—on the page—Gaiman is saying "the right things" and understanding that was his cover, his excuse.
It totally changes the whole experience of his work, for me.

Writing about dark abusive stuff when you get off on actually doing it and apparently view it as a part of yourself that you can't or won't stop, turns the whole perspective sideways. @violetmadder My old band got to perform with Dita Von Teese one time around 2005, and most of the guys were excited to take pics with Manson afterwards, but I had already heard the first round of allegations against him by then. Soured me on the whole event even though it was good publicity for us.
But hey, if for some reason you *do* want to read Sandman, the comic book shelves at Half-Price Books are just *full* of Sandman collections. Seems like a lot of people have decided they can do without it.

I wasn't crazy about the film A Wounded Fawn (it was good but not great), but the bit where Bruce insists it was a different part of him that did all the brutality resembles something I see in assholes like Gaiman.
It looks to me like Gaiman is one of those guys who lies to himself about the abuse he commits & some part of him "believes" it's consensual, even though he is clearly getting off on the fact that it's not. Like, he believes his own hype & compartmentalizes the violence & abuse.
