This is a good post. She makes a lot of good points and clarifies some important things. The part about the actual translation of the term unveiled some details that I wasn't aware of previously.

Some things were off, however. The notion that legal interpretation 'evolves' isn't quite right. It is more the case that it adapts.

Unfortunately, she does make a significant error in stating that the Shari'ah and Islam are not a threat to democracy (Liberal Democracy, Republicanism, etc.). It most assuredly is. So in this, I agree more with Islam's apparent 'detractors' or critics than I do with the presenter here.

Overall, though, she does quite an adroit job of revealing Islamic jurisprudence and its ethical framework to those who are interested in the topic.

Another day, another story of toxic sludge cover up…admire the Guardian’s tenacity on this story.

We need head’s to roll…these obscenely powerful water company bosses, Environment Agency stooges and scientifically illiterate government ministers need to be held accountable for mass poisoning.

It’s time their actions were recognised as criminal. Otherwise what will change?

#Labour have created the legislation to criminalise these water company bosses for polluting our rivers…

gov.uk/government/news/polluti…

But did they bother to include provision for polluting our farmland?

And maybe bodies other than the Environment Agency and Ofwat need to be able to level charges at the senior management of water companies…because it looks like they’ve all been colluding for some time.

It's not surprising, but sobering and alarming:

After members of the new German gvmt cast doubts on 🇩🇪's climate target, claiming it is too strict, chancellor Merz was asked today in the Parliament's Questioning Time (by the Greens) whether he can unequivocally declare that 🇩🇪 stands by it constitutionally mandated target of climate neutrality in 2045. Merz absolutely could not get himself to say that. Instead he gave answers that I cannot find satisfactory:

1) He declared that 🇩🇪 stands behind intl. agreements but avoided the question on the 🇩🇪 target
2) launched into the denialist trope that 🇩🇪 has just 1% of ppl & 2% of emissions, so its efforts make barely a diff (wow - the EU, US & China cause half of all emissions)
3) welcomed reducing emissions abroad rather than at home (used for fake reductions)
4) promoted the trope that climate policies can't be allowed to cause "deindustrialization" (sugg. that's what it leads to; the opposite is true)

That said, I recognize that one can't just bring the old stuff back (and come up with a visual design that makes clear what to tap for what just like that), and that an additional mode also requires extra testing on every change/release etc. Still, it's IMHO really worth considering (accessibility always is!), and it may even get some use by people who don't strictly need it (just like high contrast themes do). I don't want to put stuff on your plate or make demands though! @yoasif @phosh

What do you are? Your participation in the government was to increase military spending. Your participation was to fuel the war. Your representative, Baerbok, is a hardcore nazi which led your govs relationships to the point of collapse. Your Capital loves your party because you are the best whitewash for the damage it creates in social relationships and in the climate.
Yes, you are the ones!

Due to government staffing cuts, the USDA team were unable to analyse pesticides in the hives and asked bee experts at Cornell University to carry out the research, with the results still to be published.
Experts are concerned that successive loss of honeybee colonies could affect food security as the insects pollinate more than 100 commercial crops across North America

I had Windows on a 4 Tb hard drive in my old Mac Pro and I could use only 2 Tb — because Apple's early EFI can't boot Windows natively, only with BIOS emulation — so MBR it is. Having half the space wasted is very annoying. And yes, there is GPT with protective MBR, but in practice this configuration is very frail — Windows updates could ruin the partition table, they usually create a recovery partition at the end of the disk so if system in your main partition stops booting you could boot off the recovery one. And software updates update not only the system in the main partition, but the recovery one too and if that partition isn't big enough to accommodate the update… A new bigger one gets created! 🤦
I had to keep the partition table backed up and a few times I had to restore it by hand because the newly created recovery partition wasn't in the backed up GPT table 😩

It's not as bad when it works. I really enjoy being able to just copy the bootloader as EFI binary — as a file, instead of having to write into a specially defined sector, being able to have multiple binaries in one partition, so I can boot several operating systems without having to use a separate bootloader for it — yes, booting particular operating systems requires their own extras, but it can all happily reside in the same small partition.

I was messing with x86 real mode assembly programming in my teens, but I've never went that far. And when it comes to MBR… I once wanted to change the order of partitions in the partition table — most don't care what order they have, so I didn't know where to look, nowadays you can easily export the partition table with gdisk, edit the file and recreate the partition table with different order — again with gdisk. But at the time partitioning software was very limited so I wrote a C program that rearranged them 😅

It's not that it's complex, but why bother? Sure, UEFI has its shortcomings, but having this higher level of abstraction — at least having a concept of partitions at this boot stage, being able to work with files… I think it's good!

I recently received an email that at first glance appeared to be a well-crafted phishing message, warning that my Microsoft Entra ID was going to expire in a month if I didn't make a purchase. The only piece of information in the message was my supposed Entra ID.

After checking with Microsoft it appears this automated message is legitimate, and it is in reference to a Microsoft Teams trial account I created for a day and then abandoned. But apart from the Entra ID, which isn't mentioned in any prior communications from Microsoft, there is zero context for the user.

How hard would it be for Microsoft to include just a tiny bit more information in each message? Like, "Hey, this message is about an account created 5 years ago, for Teams" or something. Otherwise these marketing messages train users to fall for phishing scams.

this video is bullshit this kike is ranting about mostly just people supporting trans rights and then one, ONE guy who is a convicted sex offender which sure call it bad but he was convicted he served his time i dont see how its relevant here it's just more kike chud grifter bullshit complaining about "degeneracy" of shit like, grouped among pedos, anybody lgbt, or shit like that, fucking nazi and he's ending the video by implying that anybody who disagrees with him or criticizes him for saying the linux community is a degenerate disgusting criminal haven for pedophilic sex crime must be a pedophile child rapist themselves i wish i could bash this fucking kikes jew skull in go back to talking about linux you hebrew piece of shit 109 countries just wasn't enough expelling wasn't enough i hope you die you probably hate autistic people too not just trannies fuck you nigger 🖕

After years of dominance in #ESET’s top #infostealer statistics, the era of #AgentTesla has come to an end. It finished H1 2025 in fourth place, its numbers having decreased by 57%. The reason? It is no longer under active development.
The threat actors behind Agent Tesla have reportedly lost access to the servers with the malware’s source code. A successor appeared almost immediately – another #MaaS threat, known as #SnakeStealer or #SnakeKeylogger, has claimed the number one spot.
Recommended as a suitable replacement directly in Agent Tesla’s Telegram channel, SnakeStealer now takes up almost a fifth of all infostealer detections registered by ESET telemetry. Between H2 2024 and H1 2025, its detections more than doubled.
If you want to find out more information about this changing of the guard in the infostealer threat landscape, head on over to #ESETThreatReport: welivesecurity.com/en/eset-res…

Heads up #Sharkey #admins! If you're not #caching #remote #media (a'la #mastodon) be sure to go into your Files Management page and clear out your remotely cached files anyway!

Holy crap I cleared up over 500GB of remotely cached media across all my #instances in doing so.

I guess at one point I inadvertently enabled remote media caching and forgot to turn it off or something happened and it still continued to cache for a while?

The American Dream is, has, and always will be, a ***lie***.

When the American empire finally collapses, historians won’t be stunned by the greed of the elite; They’ll be stunned by the loyalty of the poor.

The working class didn’t just vote against their own interests. They worshipped the billionaires robbing them.

They slashed their own benefits, gutted their own healthcare, defunded the schools of their own kids, plauded the ruling class for leaving them alone in time of need, supported masked agents kidnapping regular citizens, and cheered while the rich wrote off private jets as tax deductions.

Not because it helped them. But because they were told it would hurt someone else.

And that, right there, is how you rig a democracy without ever breaking a single law.

When you haven't been exposed to advertising for a while and it's no longer normalised, it's quite jarring. Not because it's annoying or shit, rarely lacking any artistic merit, begging and pleading and lying for attention and complicity - that bit you remember.

But because the only way this crap exists at all is through force, ramming it through devices without permission or consent. An entire industry based on tracking and surveillance to target assault.

It's fucking despicable.

mozilla, part of the problem or part of a solution

automation stupidity in rapid development

For those of you using librewolf you may have noticed that color coded tab grouping has been in effect. You just right click a tab and add it to a group, or create a new one with spcific name and color code. Fine, that doesn't appear unreasonable and remains optional for the use to configure.
Now mozilla is coming out with automatic grouping of tabs, based on what criteria, Ai?

Firefox automatically groups your tabs and suggests names based on what you’re working on. It helps you stay focused, find things faster, and reduce clutter.

I sure hope the librewolf gang will have this disabled at build time
