"Hours before the keynote speaker, Abeba Birhane—founder and lead of the TCD AI Accountability Lab (AIAL) and one of Time magazine’s 2023 100 Most Influential People in AI—was set to take the stage, she was asked by organizers to remove some of her slides.

Specifically, the organizers wanted Birhane to “remove anything that mentions ‘Palestine’ ‘Israel’ and replace ‘genocide’ with ‘war crimes‘” and “a slide that explains illegal data torrenting by Meta.”

Anybody having issues getting #Evolution to authenticate with #Mailcow/ #Sogo on the back-end? I'm using #AppPasswords. Was using one password for everything but now I've split things up and am trying an app password for IMAP/ EAS/ Sieve, CalDAV/ CardDAV, and SMTP seperately to see if things are more stable. But I'm getting sick and tired of having to re-authenticate to Mailcow it seems pretty much every single day.

"Blaming intense media coverage and backlash to the US military deployment in #LosAngeles, DHS expects the #demonstrations to 'continue and grow across the nation' as #protesters focused on other issues shift to #immigration, following a broad 'embracement of #AntiICE messaging.'

"The bulletins—first obtained by the national security nonprofit #PropertyOfThePeople through public records requests—warn that officers could face assaults with fireworks and improvised weapons: #paint-filled fire extinguishers, smoke grenades, and projectiles like #bottles and #rocks.

"One list of 'violent tactics' shared by the Los Angeles–based Joint Regional Intelligence Center—part of a post-9/11 fusion network—includes both protesters’ attempts to avoid identification and efforts to identify police. The memo also alleges that face recognition, normally a tool of law enforcement, was used against officers.

"Vera Eidelman, a senior staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union [#ACLU], says the government has no business treating #constitutionally protected activities—like #observing or #documenting police—as threats.

If I was wealthy I would own several banquet and event rental buildings and rent a little above break even over expenses.

The on-going headache I hear from every non-profit, club, or sporting activity primarily for adults is the lack of rental space for events.

Ironically there are a ton of empty schools, churches, and municipal owned buildings that purposely make it impossible or unaffordable to fill the need of any growing community.

even though there's no direct evidence that trump is compromised by the epstein blackmail scheme, the behavior at this point is making it look a lot more likely. keep in mind the island wasn't the only place that stuff was going on- epstein had a large building in new york so those people wouldn't have appeared on the flight logs. there could be far more compromised individuals (including trump) than just people who flew to the island

before i was skeptical but now i'm really thinking trump is more than just an israel loving zionist. the beahivor is more like someone being blackmailed than just someone with a religious bias or having accepted campaign donations

trump is either directly implicated, or they threatened his family, or he just has no logical consistency in his policy positions and is willing to do 180 degree flips for no reason- but i think generally they're a reason we keep seeing politicians change their tune regarding middle east policy and israel-related matters, after they get in office, which is some combination of bribery, blackmail, and extortion.

I’ve heard him admit some quirks / shortsightedness, but I think he’d repeat some unless the markup could remain natural to writers. The conventions grew from text email and newsgroups, where they were never intended to be read as formatted html.

The other was to make it look as little like “markup” as possible, and therefore, intuitive (the basic emphasis, bullets and headers are easily understood – even if reference links and tables are harder to write/dev than to read).

I don’t know exactly what the engineering behind it looks like, but it seems that the primary innovation is to create a “Inner monologue” where a variety of agentic “voices” discuss the question you asked from multiple points of view, figure out what to google, and then summarize those results then verify the answer.

You can see this process working if you hit the “thoughts” button as it happens.

Pretty cool, possibly more than a parlor trick.
