#snac2 allows for translations via .po files and on my instance I've used it to replace status action buttons' captions with colour emojis โ makes the UI a bit nicer on a phone.
For favourite, boost and bookmark I've used the set that I already use in my BloatFE and the rest are just initial rough ideas โ which, I have to admit, aren't perfect: crossed out speaker and crossed out bell, garbage bin and big red cross are a bit confusing as to what they might mean โ we'll see if I can come up with something better.
And I've also brought back Mastodon's famous "toot" button. Yes, the one with the elephant ๐

They serve as visual anchors and require few to make use of โ most modern terminal emulators support them and most systems have some sort of font. Works fine even in st on my olde ThinkPad T43 ๐

This does the trick for me.
However my goal was to avoid wrapping so they always remain in one line โ to prevent pressing the buttons for destructive actions by accident. When buttons are arranged in one line they are usually rightmost and are easy to avoid.
However under deeply nested replies they DO start wrapping ๐
My solution for now is to hide the desctructive action buttons with uBlockOrigin โ I barely ever block anyone and if I need these, I can always make them visible again. With less buttons they also fit in one line even for the deeply nested comments.
Mayve one day I can come up with a proper solution, but for nowโฆ this is fine ๐
