Besides the corrections others have said, I really can’t think of any reason people would intentionally use legacy BIOS on a machine with UEFI for a new install.
Like, I could get doing it for an old install - I know someone who installed Windows 7 in 2015 on their then-new desktop build and later upgraded to 10 but is stuck on legacy BIOS for now with that machine because 7 only ran on that.
I could see something similarly jank happening to someone in the Linux world and then decide not to address it for “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it reasons”, but certainly not for no reason.

I just tried out the new Dia browser from the creators of Arc. While Arc wasn't my favorite, I was curious about Dia, despite not being a fan of hyper-AI features. I wanted to explore the extremes, but honestly, it left me puzzled. How do people use it effectively? This doesn't seem like the right approach for how a browser should function, or maybe it just doesn't work for most users. I was working on a bash script and working out some logic for command chaining and grouping for executing different functions in my script based on the return status of other functions.
I know you can group commands with (), which spawns a subshell, and within the grouping you can chain with ;, &&, and ||.
I also know that you can group commands with {}, but, within the curly braces you can only separate commands with ;.
EDIT: the above statement of the curly braces only allowing ; is incorrect. I misunderstood what I had read. @SheeEttin@lemmy.zip pointed out my mistake.
The requirement is that the list of commands in the curly braces needs to be terminated with a semicolon or a newline character, and in the script, I unknowingly was meeting the rules by using the newlines to make the code easier to read for myself.

In the script, for readability I did group the commands across lines kind of like a function.
The script is pretty simple. I created a few functions with echo commands to test the logic. the script asks for input of foo or bar. The first function has an if, and if the input is foo, it executes. If it's bar it returns 1.
The return of 1 triggers the or (||) and executes the second command group.
The idea was, if the user inputs foo, the first group triggers printing foo baz to stdout. If the user inputs bar, the foo function returns 1, the baz function does not execute, the or is triggered, and bar but is printed to stdout

I don't see any mention of only being allowed to use a semicolon. I don't have a test system handy unfortunately.
Ideally you'd simplify or separate your logic so that you're not relying so much on bash. If you need complex logic, I'd use another language, depending on what's available in your environment.
Ah! I misinterpreted what I read! I found that exact same reference link when looking into this and I misinterpreted this:
The semicolon (or newline) following list is required
to mean that it required the semicolon as the command separator. That explains why my script works. The newline closes each group, and the other operators are allowed, the list just needs to be closed. Thank you!
My environment is just my homelab. Ubuntu server on my server, Arch (btw) on my laptop. So I could go with any language , but right now I'm choosing Bash. I know stuff I'm doing would probably be easier in a different language, and maybe I'm a glutton for punishment. I just want to get really good with Bash.
The logic is Bash is gonna be available on just about any computing environment I encounter (linux especially, but even Windows with WSL and zsh on macOS (which I know is different, but still very similar). But really, I am just enjoying the hell out of learning and scripting with Bash. I'll move on to Python or something someday.

@tomjennings There's a new "routing" feature for direct messaging, and a public key crypto system for DMs. I still don't like the MAC as identity rather than crypto-key as identity, but looking at the meshcore map, there's like ~10 nodes in all of SoCal... so it's not really an option.
If you're primarily interested in "group channels" rather than DMs the two seem very similar. I guess meshtastic even has a store-and forward system?

I checked out resin garden gnomes on Amazon and they were generally $20 to $50 each. The ones I've seen at regular garden centers are often twice that price. There are between one and two dozen gnomes here. Someone is pretty dedicated to this assemblage of whimsey, but it still is less expensive than a small group of inflatable holiday ornaments or a giant resin skeleton. As it happens, yesterday was the first time I got out of the car and walked around to get some photos from several new angles. The nature of whatever message I might put in a jar is very much undetermined at this point. Perhaps you have some suggestions. I suppose I could enclose several messages in a jar. A miniature kite with a tail made of several message scrolls on a string might be pretty cool flight of fancy.

There is a black cat sitting between the skeletons, and a fat toad in the back of the wagon with the dogs and little rooster, and more flower pots in the middle of the wagon. Ahead of the big rooster, there is a rose bush and a rose of sharon bush in front of the little shed.
I've noticed a fair number of solar-powered LED pathway lights among the pots of flowers and the gnomes. I suppose that lends a romantic touch during the evening. These whimsical mysteries continue to unfurl themselves like the many flowers that blossom and fade from day to day.
You are correct, @Shonie Hutter. I wonder if poor Paddington has had to wash off a lot of snail slime from his fur at some time in the past, or if he has deep fears about the continued survival of his garden (more likely). If I saw snails piling up like that in my garden, I would probably be alarmed.
I think the thing just under Paddington's elbow is from a branch that was removed and healed over on the piece of tree trunk. It may also be a disguised speaker that is part of a resin tree-trunk-replica. They have fake rocks kinda like that so people can have tunes in the garden. I had become curious about that myself and will have a closer look sometime.
The red thing does look spiral shaped like a snail shell when I enlarge it enough. I thought it had concentric circles, and I had to use a Digital Color Meter utility to see that it was red rather than brown. I'm partly colorblind. There is something kinda green/tan under the red spiral bit, so it may indeed be another snail trying to outflank Paddington Bear. I had not crossed the driveway during my recent visit. I would have been in direct sight of their big house behind the little old shack if I had done so, and I'm still being timid.
The place has no signs of being a family compound with DJT flags and such. I think the nearest one of those is more than a mile or two away from this place on a different road. I've wondered if there is a security camera or two somewhere to catch any potential vandals. This place is on a LONG twisty and hilly dirt road and has a large family farm nearby. There is a ginormous corporate dairy farm about 10 or 15 miles away from this place.
Being timid sounds smart @Brian Fitzgerald. I often times can't get a picture because I don't like to go onto someone's property. I will step on the the driveway a bit depending on the layout. Risking my life for a picture is just not for me.

I’ve been to House on the Rock many times @Donna McClure from when it started as a collection being amassed by an individual and you could just pull in and ask to see what he has, til it got greater and greater and they expanded into a huge building, etc. There is so much to see there. Things from room size music boxes to three story carousels to a small old time town to collections of dolls and weird sea life. It staggers the imagination.

I think the score is one CBP agent shot dead shortly after the Inauguration, one in early July with a minor gunshot wound, and now this case with one CPB agent shot in the cheek. Also a cop shot in the neck in the Texas incident. That's 4 total plus one CEO and two Israeli Embassy staffers shot dead since the election, plus one raid that blew up with shots fired at ICE but nobody hit.

I've seen Bitcoin ppl actually make the argument (without data) that stablecoins can't eat enough of the debt to stop what's coming (then proceed to theorize about a massive collapse).
The same ppl say Bitcoin is valuable bc of is value in dollars.
With the exception of a few places (China), ppl all over the world are adopting these things.
I think it's both a new debt issuance and old debt absorber for the Western banking cartel with new and improved controls.

I believe you are correct on your reading but I will add that a banking crisis is a known inevitability that will benefit to the banking cartel, who will use it to consolidate power.
America actually has a great many mid-size banks, unnecessary for the new grid.
