my distiller finished 2 cycles and the RO output was 80lbs this evening (like 10 gallons or so), still maintaining about 10lbs/hr instead of the 16 i was promised, but whatever, 10 is better than zero.
so i gotta close the feedline valve for the RO and hit the bricks, as my ex used to say.
no rush on response. Do you cook with / drink the distilled water? Do you add any minerals in for taste? What do you do with the left over materials that don’t distill?

It's only 3/4 gallon or so capacity, and i stop it with a pint or more left inside to prevent burning the residue into my carafe.

Results of my little survey. Why is Linux growing?
19% believe it is because of sunsetting of OS versions. Microsoft is forcing Windows 11 on people and a lot of people are not happy with that and some are just not able to run it. So with a choice of replacing the HW or the OS, plenty of people choose the OS.
20% believe it is because people are just discovering how good Linux truly is.
41% believe it is a combination.
21% think it is something else, with some mentioning SteamOS as a reason.
Whatever the reason, more and more people are seeing Linux as a great choice, which is only good news to me.

It runs standard android but a bit older - android 11 and connects to on line app store and various sites. has a browser (but slow of course on e-ink!) that's great but not why I got it. Wanted an e-ink android reader to replace my Kindle paperwhite and be able to run the Readera App so I can sync my books, bookmarks, reading progress and notes across all my devices - phone, tablets.
Was a bit frustrating at first til I discovered how to adjust the display (some apps and app menus etc were not showing up)...but once I got past that it seems to work great! Battery life is reportedly much less 1/4 or more than Kindle but that's not that big a deal and I suspect that mostly has to do with using it to browse the web.
Tried out the built in browser.... Wow. I'm impressed. People online are complaining about it but damn..it's way faster and better than the computers and browsers when I started with the interwebz!!! These young whippersnappers don't know how good they got it....sheesh!

Non pas que cela me dérange en soi — je suis moi-même homme de foi, et le voile, dans sa dimension spirituelle, fait partie de nos valeurs — mais ce qui m’a frappé, c’est la transformation visible, presque brutale, de l’espace public dans une ville qu’on présente comme la “capitale de l’Europe”.
Cette image m’a poussé à réfléchir. Est-ce encore Bruxelles ? Ou assistons-nous, sans même nous en rendre compte, à un changement profond, culturel, sociologique, et identitaire ? Car ce que j’ai vu ne relève pas simplement de la diversité. Il s’agit d’une homogénéité nouvelle, mais étrangère à l’histoire du lieu. Et cela m’amène à poser une question sincère : est-ce qu’une ville européenne peut rester fidèle à son identité, si elle adopte sans limites les codes culturels d’ailleurs, jusqu’à s’y confondre ?
Regardons ailleurs : même dans des pays à majorité musulmane comme la Turquie, il existe des mesures concrètes pour préserver l’équilibre démographique et culturel. Dans certaines régions, l’État restreint l’installation massive de groupes étrangers afin d’éviter les tensions sociales et les fractures identitaires. L’objectif n’est pas l’exclusion, mais la stabilité. Et en Europe ? On semble avoir abandonné toute stratégie. Certaines zones urbaines se transforment rapidement, parfois au point que la langue du pays, ses valeurs fondamentales, ses traditions ou même ses lois locales deviennent marginales. Ce n’est plus un simple mélange, mais une superposition d’univers parallèles qui ne se parlent plus.
Le terme que j’utilise ici – “Belgikistan” – n’est pas une insulte. C’est une manière provocante mais réfléchie d’alerter sur une réalité qu’on n’ose plus nommer : la perte progressive de l’identité européenne dans certaines villes. Et soyons clairs : il ne s’agit pas d’accuser une communauté en particulier. Il s’agit de poser une question de fond sur la cohérence culturelle, le vivre-ensemble et les responsabilités politiques.
Car l’intégration ne signifie pas l’effacement de l’un au profit de l’autre. Elle implique un dialogue, une adaptation mutuelle, un respect des principes du pays d’accueil. Ce que l’on observe parfois en Europe, malheureusement, ce n’est pas de l’intégration, mais une sorte de remplacement silencieux, facilité par le silence ou la peur de paraître “intolérant”.
Je ne parle ici ni par haine ni par mépris. J’aime profondément les valeurs religieuses, les traditions spirituelles, et le respect des croyants. Mais j’aime aussi la vérité. Et la vérité, c’est que l’Europe traverse une crise d’identité, dans laquelle l’accueil de l’autre ne doit pas signifier la disparition de soi.
Il est temps d’en parler, calmement, honnêtement, courageusement. Le vrai respect commence par la clarté. Et si l’on veut vraiment vivre ensemble, il faut savoir qui nous sommes, ce que nous défendons, et jusqu’où nous sommes prêts à aller — ou à reculer.
😊 Il ne semble pas être allé dans les quartiers huppés, bourgeois, européistes. Mais il est vrai que dans le centre historique et la proche périphérie, les maisons sont vieilles, les quartiers ont d'abord subi une désertion des autochtones et l'immigration ouvrière s'est installée ; puis une petite gentrification, notamment des Français, la majorité immigrée de Bruxelles, qui a fait monter les loyers ; là-dessus, les familles plus nombreuses ont pris les logements spacieux. Alors, les isolés comme moi, sont obligés de quitter à leur tour, si possible pour des villes plus rurales, pas pour y être entre soi, on ne l'est jamais quand on arrive quelque part, on est un étranger, mais avant tout car on peut se le payer et c'est nettement plus vert, plus propre, moins bruyant au premier abord, loin des avions et des autoroutes urbains bouchonnés.
« Belgikistan » est un mot lancé par l'extrême-droite, mais repris depuis par les partis centristes à destination d'un électorat qu'il ne veulent pas laisser filer aux extrêmes : ils le deviennent eux-mêmes.
Je pourrais étoffer, mais la vie en ville qui ne fait pas de cadeaux, ce n'est pas propre à Bruxelles mais à toutes les capitales, l'immigration musulmane a beaucoup souffert du mépris et des insultes comme celle-là et s'est repliée dans une crise identitaire. Le pire, c'est qu'au Maroc, en Turquie ou ailleurs, on les appelle « Les Belges ».

We came back from our holidays to find Ekkaia, our small 12 years old punk cat, dead. We will really miss her for a long time. She loved us, hated the whole rest of the world, and never missed a chance to do mischief and disrespect her surroundings. We're fucking sad and second guessing ourselves for extending our stay, even if it would probably have changed nothing: she was alive yesterday evening when the catsitter came to cuddle and feed her. We missed our goodbye by a few hours and that sucks so much.
