@dangillmor Not a fan of how Mozilla has fumbled the whole direction of the organization over the last 10 years, but never attribute to malice, etc. As soon as I saw this, saw there was an update pending and upgraded to 141.0 on macOS and all of my settings, etc. remained the same. I believe that there are bugs around this, but I don’t think there is some kind of conspiracy here this time at least.

Not sure if this helps at all, but I keep all my about:config overrides in a separate user.js file placed inside my profile's folder. Mine is based on the popular betterfox user.js with several overrides to suit my particular/peculiar preferences. Though a bit more laborious to maintain, this approach has never failed me so far and Mozilla's never ignored the preferences configured in my user.js file
